If your Apple Home camera is missing from what you call the “Home widget,” first check whether you mean the Cameras section in the Home app or a separate widget on your iPhone Home Screen. Apple documents camera viewing in the Home app’s Home tab; the Apple guidance cited here does not establish that a separate Home Screen widget displays camera video. Check the Home app first, then follow the branch that matches what you see.
First, identify where the camera is missing
Apple’s iPhone guide describes cameras in the Home app’s Home tab. It does not document a separate iPhone Home Screen widget for showing camera streams, so instructions for the Home tab should not be treated as confirmation that a widget supports the same view. See Apple’s Home app overview.

- Missing from the Home app: Check that the camera is compatible with Apple Home and added to the correct home.
- Visible in Home, but not in a separate widget: Open the camera tile in Home to check the camera connection. If its stream works, the remaining question is which widget you mean and whether it supports the camera view you expect.
- Visible in Home, but its stream does not load: Check the camera setup and network, and review HomeKit Secure Video requirements only if you use that service.
Find and open the camera in the Home app
Open Home and go to the Home tab. Apple says the Cameras section can show video from up to four cameras; swipe left in the section to see more. Tap the camera tile. Apple’s camera guide says live video should play automatically when you open it. See Apple’s Home overview and camera setup and viewing instructions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the camera is not listed
Check that the camera is compatible with Apple Home and has been added to the home you are viewing. In the Home app, camera settings include room assignment and notification options; confirm you are looking in the right home and room. A camera’s compatibility with Apple Home does not by itself establish that it supports HomeKit Secure Video.

Automatically store detected events with end-to-end encryption in the cloud with a HomeGuardian subscription, ensuring protection against data theft and guaranteeing your privacy at home.
If the camera tile opens but video does not play
Continue with the connection checks below. If you use HomeKit Secure Video, also verify its account, iCloud and home hub setup. Those requirements apply to that service; they are not established here as prerequisites for every camera view in Home.
Check HomeKit Secure Video setup, if you use it
Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video setup guide says the viewing device should be signed in to the same Apple Account used on the other devices, with Home enabled in iCloud. Check the viewing device at Settings > [your name] > iCloud and make sure Home is enabled. Apple also requires a home hub for HomeKit Secure Video. Its guide lists Apple TV 4K and HomePod as home hub types. See Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video setup instructions.

Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.
If you do not use HomeKit Secure Video, do not assume that buying or adding a hub will fix a camera that is missing from a separate widget. The cited Apple instructions establish the hub requirement for HomeKit Secure Video, not for that widget behavior.

Apple’s Face Recognition troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that the home hub is powered on and connected to home Wi-Fi, that the camera is on the same network as the Home app, and that the network is stable. Applying those checks to a missing camera view is a sensible diagnostic step, not a guaranteed fix: Apple’s page addresses Face Recognition specifically. - Confirm the home hub is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi.
- Check that the camera and the device running Home are using the same home network.
- Check whether the network connection is stable, then try opening the camera tile in Home again.

| What you find | Where to focus |
|---|---|
| Camera is absent from the Home app | Verify Apple Home compatibility, the selected home and whether the camera is still added. |
| Camera appears in Home and live video plays | Identify the separate widget and check its supported behavior; the Apple pages cited here do not establish camera-stream support for an iPhone Home Screen widget. |
| Camera appears in Home but live video does not play | Check network and hub connectivity. If you use HomeKit Secure Video, check its account, iCloud and home hub requirements as well. |
Do not replace a camera or buy a hub as a default response to an undocumented widget issue. Consider hardware replacement only if you establish a camera fault or incompatibility; the checks above are intended to distinguish that from an account, setup or connection problem.
