Hollywood Merge beginner’s guide: How to merge items and complete tasks efficiently

By Freedom251 Team · · 11 min read

The fastest safe way to advance in Hollywood Merge is to work backward from visible character requests. Check what each character wants before spending Energy, build only the item chains that support those requests, use the green check marks to confirm what is complete, and keep enough board space for the next merge. Let Energy refill when your useful options are exhausted, collect energy bubbles or merge energy bottles when available, save scarce Rubies for a meaningful bottleneck, and complete weekly tasks alongside normal play.

This approach does not depend on a secret timing trick or a guaranteed spending shortcut. It is a planning routine: requests decide what to produce, Energy controls your pace, Rubies cover only exceptional needs, and open board squares prevent your useful chains from being buried under surplus items.

What you are managing in Hollywood Merge

Hollywood Merge revolves around adding mergeable items to your board, combining matching pieces, and using the resulting items to satisfy character requests and quests. Three resources shape the decisions a beginner makes:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Energy lets you add more mergeable items to the board. It replenishes over time, and the beginner guide also identifies energy bubbles and merged energy bottles as recovery routes.
  • Coins are associated with progression from completed quests in the guide’s recommended play loop.
  • Rubies are the scarce premium resource. The guide discusses using them for exclusive chests or merge pieces, but recommends preserving them early rather than spending them casually.

Requests are your immediate objectives. A character can ask for more than one item, so completing one part of a request does not necessarily finish the whole task. Fulfilled requests receive a green check mark, giving you a visual way to distinguish what remains. Weekly tasks add smaller objectives, such as completing a number of merges, and pay rewards when finished.

There is no published figure in the available guide for Energy regeneration speed, the Energy cap, the cost of a particular merge, or the reward value of each weekly task. Treat those values as screen- and version-dependent rather than filling the gaps with a supposed universal formula.

Start every session with the request panel

Before tapping to generate another item, look above the board at the requests currently shown by the characters. This single check prevents the most common beginner waste: producing a random chain, filling the board, and then discovering that the chain needed for a quest has no room.

Read every request, not just the first one

When a character displays multiple requested items, identify which one is already marked with a green check and which one is still open. Keep the unfinished item in view while you decide what to merge. A completed first request is not a reason to stop planning if a second request remains.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use this request-first sequence

  1. Open the character request area and note every item that is not marked complete.
  2. Trace each unfinished item back to the mergeable pieces that can lead to it.
  3. Choose the chain that can be advanced with the Energy and board space you have now.
  4. Merge toward that chain instead of creating unrelated pieces.
  5. Deliver the finished item and confirm that its green check appears before changing targets.
  6. Recheck the request list, because the remaining request may require a different chain.

Completing quests is also presented as a route to earning Coins for level progression. The practical implication is to treat requests as both objectives and a way to turn otherwise idle board activity into progression.

Energy: spend it as a pacing resource

Cristina Mesesan’s Pocket Gamer beginner guide describes the role directly: “Energy is what allows you to add more mergeable items to your board.” In other words, Energy is not an item you merge into a quest result; it is the permission to generate more material for your chains.

Where Energy comes from

  • Energy refills over time.
  • Energy bubbles can provide another recovery route when they appear.
  • Merging energy bottles is also identified as a way to restore Energy.

The guide does not state a universal refill interval, maximum reserve, or optimal number of taps per cycle. Do not plan around an invented “every few minutes” rule. Read the current counter and the available recovery items on your own board.

Choose between spending now and waiting

Situation Reasonable action Why
An open request can be advanced with the next few generated pieces Spend Energy on that chain Your Energy produces progress instead of unscheduled clutter.
The board is crowded and no current request can be advanced Pause and let Energy refill Waiting preserves space and avoids paying Energy for pieces with no near-term use.
An energy bubble is available Collect it when it supports a planned chain or recovery window The guide identifies bubbles as an additional Energy source.
Energy bottles can be merged efficiently Merge them as part of your recovery plan Merged bottles are another route named by the guide; do not assume a specific yield unless the game shows it.

The useful distinction is not “always spend” versus “always save.” Spend when the request board and open squares give the Energy a job; wait when spending would only create storage problems.

A practical Energy routine

  1. Check requests and weekly tasks before the first tap.
  2. Estimate whether the board has enough open squares for the chain you are about to start.
  3. Use Energy on the request with the clearest near-term path.
  4. Stop when the next generated pieces would have no planned destination.
  5. Return after passive refill or use an available bubble or merged bottle when it restores a productive cycle.

Build merges without sacrificing board space

Board capacity is a planning resource. Every spare item occupies a square that could hold a piece needed for an active request, so “keeping everything just in case” can be as damaging as spending Energy randomly.

Plan a few moves ahead

Before you merge, ask what the next two or three actions will require. If a merge creates a higher-level piece but leaves several uncombined parts scattered around it, make sure those parts belong to a request you expect to pursue. A tidy board is not about one officially correct arrangement; the guide does not prescribe a fixed layout or claim that a particular pattern is optimal. It is about leaving room for the chain you are currently trying to complete.

Do not warehouse unneeded extras

Keep pieces that are part of an active request or an immediately useful merge. Avoid holding duplicates that will not be used for several turns when those squares could support the current chain. If a request changes, reassess the board rather than continuing a chain solely because you have already started it.

Use a simple board audit

  • Active: pieces that can be merged now or that directly support a visible request.
  • Next: pieces likely to be needed within the next few actions.
  • Idle: pieces with no request connection and no near-term merge.

The first two groups justify their space. The idle group is where clutter accumulates. The guide’s advice is to anticipate which chains will be useful soon and avoid storing extras that will sit unused for several turns.

Rubies: reserve the scarce resource

The beginner guide characterizes Rubies as scarce. It mentions exclusive chests and merge pieces as possible uses, while recommending that new players avoid spending them early. This is a conservative strategy, not a guarantee that every player should make the same purchase.

  • [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by

When saving is the better default

  • You are still learning which chains your requests commonly require.
  • The purchase would merely create a small amount of convenience while Energy or time would solve the problem.
  • Your board is crowded, so buying another piece would add storage pressure rather than finish a request.
  • You cannot identify the exact bottleneck the Ruby would remove.

When a spend may be meaningful

The guide presents a piece needed for a rare merge as a possible later use. Before spending, verify that the piece is genuinely blocking a request or an important merge, that you cannot obtain it through normal Energy and waiting, and that the purchase will not leave you short for a more difficult requirement. The game may show current shop contents and prices that differ by version or platform; the guide does not establish a universal price list.

A Ruby decision check

  1. Name the exact request or merge that the purchase will complete.
  2. Check whether the piece can arrive through ordinary generation, a bubble, or a bottle merge.
  3. Check whether you have the board space to use it immediately.
  4. Spend only if the bottleneck is significant enough to justify reducing a scarce reserve.

In-app purchases are listed for the game, but nothing in the beginner strategy makes a purchase necessary. You can follow the request-first, Energy-aware routine without treating paid currency as a requirement for normal progress.

Finish weekly tasks while doing normal requests

Weekly tasks add a second layer of objectives. The guide describes tasks that ask for a number of merges or other small actions and recommends completing them each week for their rewards.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Make the task list part of your opening check

  1. Open the weekly task list before spending your first Energy.
  2. Identify actions that overlap with the character requests you already need to complete.
  3. Count progress as you perform those normal merges rather than creating unnecessary merges only to chase a counter.
  4. Return to the task list periodically and claim rewards as soon as the game makes them available.

For example, if a weekly task counts merges and a character request needs a chain of merges, that request can advance both goals at once. If a task asks for an action unrelated to your current request, weigh the board-space and Energy cost before pursuing it. The source does not specify a universal reset time or a current reward table, so rely on the timer and reward text displayed in your version.

Complete quests and turn progress into Coins

Requests and quests are connected in the guide’s progression advice: fulfilling the requested items advances the objective, and completing quests is described as a way to earn Coins for level progression. Keep the distinction clear:

  • A character request tells you which item chain has an immediate purpose.
  • A quest is the broader objective whose completion can contribute Coins.
  • A green check confirms a requested item has been fulfilled, but you should still inspect the character for any additional item that remains.

If progress seems stuck, do not assume the game failed to register a delivery. First check whether the character had multiple requested items and whether only one received a green check. Then inspect the quest text for a separate condition.

A complete beginner playbook

Use the following loop whenever you return to the game. It combines the guide’s recommendations without requiring an exact Energy timer or a particular board layout.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Inspect requests. Write down or mentally note every unfinished item and identify the chain for each.
  2. Inspect weekly tasks. Select overlaps with your request work so routine merges contribute to the weekly objectives.
  3. Audit space. Merge obvious pairs and remove idle clutter from the immediate work area before generating more pieces.
  4. Spend Energy with a destination. Generate only what can advance a visible request or a planned recovery merge.
  5. Confirm deliveries. Look for the green check and reread the request list for any second item.
  6. Collect progress. Claim quest and weekly rewards when the game marks them complete.
  7. Stop at the right time. When the next Energy spend would produce unneeded pieces, pause and let Energy refill.
  8. Protect Rubies. Keep them unless an identified, rare bottleneck justifies the cost.

Trade-offs to make deliberately

Decision Short-term benefit Risk Beginner default
Spend Energy immediately More pieces and faster progress when tied to a request Clutter and wasted generation if no chain is ready Spend for a visible request; pause when the board has no job for the next pieces.
Wait for Energy Preserves board space and avoids unplanned pieces Slower session progress Wait when requests cannot be advanced efficiently.
Spend Rubies May supply an exclusive chest or a rare merge piece Reduces a scarce reserve for a convenience purchase Save early; consider spending only on a clearly identified bottleneck.
Keep extra items May provide a future merge without another Energy spend Consumes squares needed for active requests Keep active and near-term pieces; avoid idle stockpiles.
Chase a weekly task separately Can earn its reward sooner May create merges that do not help a request Let normal request work count first, then pursue only efficient leftovers.

These are practical trade-offs from the guide, not measured performance comparisons. No source reports a quantified advantage for one spending schedule, board arrangement, or Ruby strategy.

What to do when progress stalls

You are out of Energy

Check whether a bubble is available and whether energy bottles can be merged. If neither option supports an immediate request, wait for the passive refill rather than filling the board with unrelated pieces. The available guidance does not establish a faster universal refill method.

The board is full

Compare every stored piece with the request list and your next planned merges. Combine useful pairs, deliver completed requests, and stop retaining pieces that will not be used for several turns. Do not spend Rubies merely to postpone a planning decision.

A character still shows an unfinished request

Look for a second requested item. The green check may apply to only one part of a multi-item request. Return to the unmarked item and trace its chain before generating anything else.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

You are tempted by a Ruby purchase

Apply the four-question Ruby check: what exact objective does it finish, can normal play supply the piece, do you have space to use it, and is the bottleneck rare enough to justify the scarce currency? If you cannot answer all four, save the Rubies.

The weekly counter is not complete

Read the task wording precisely and check whether the action is a merge or another small objective. Continue overlapping actions during request work, then claim the reward when the task is marked complete. Reset times and reward amounts are not universal in the available source material.

Your event or episode number differs from a guide or store listing

Storefront information is platform- and region-specific, and the game is updated over time. Use the episode, event, and task text shown in your own app rather than assuming another player’s schedule applies to you.

Current version and event context

As of the storefront snapshots described for October 2026, the US Google Play listing identifies VOYAGERONE DISTRIBUTION LIMITED as the developer, displays Episode 74, and lists events around October 2026, including Golden Memories beginning October 8. The US Apple App Store version history showed version 0.0.923 and announced Episode 75 plus events scheduled to begin October 16; that entry was displayed as roughly 16 hours old when accessed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those details are listing-specific snapshots, not a promise that every account receives the same episode or event at the same time. Store pages are dynamic, rollout timing can vary by platform and region, and an event may have changed by the time you read this. Check your in-game event panel and your own store page for the current schedule. The strategic loop remains useful even when the episode number changes because it is based on requests, Energy, Rubies, weekly tasks, and board capacity rather than a particular event.

Quick checklist before you tap

  • What unfinished request is visible right now?
  • Does the character have more than one requested item?
  • Which chain can your current Energy and board space actually support?
  • Will the next pieces have a planned destination?
  • Is an energy bubble or bottle merge available?
  • Are you about to spend Rubies without a rare, identified bottleneck?
  • Can this merge also advance a weekly task?
  • After delivery, did the correct item receive a green check?

When you can answer those questions before generating pieces, Hollywood Merge becomes a sequence of intentional decisions rather than a race to fill the board. Requests tell you what matters, Energy sets the pace, and disciplined space and Ruby management keep later merges possible.
