Independent reviews describe it as comfortable and well cushioned, but find its energy return limited when the pace picks up. Whether it is worth buying depends on your preferred ride, fit, and the price in your market.
What kind of running shoe is the Clifton 11?
HOKA positions the Clifton 11 as a neutral road shoe for everyday miles. Its official Thailand product page lists a compression-molded EVA midsole, Smooth MetaRocker geometry, refined mesh upper, Durabrasion outsole, and double-lace-lock system. The rearfoot-focused Active Foot Frame is also described in T3’s launch coverage. These are design features; they do not, by themselves, establish how the shoe will feel to every runner.

HOKA Senior Director of Performance Footwear Bekah Broe described the update as a refinement to the fit and engineered mesh upper, with an enhanced sockliner intended to deliver a smoother, comfortable ride. That is HOKA’s description of its design goals, rather than independent proof of performance.
How does the Clifton 11 feel on runs and walks?
Easy runs and everyday wear
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer used the Clifton 11 for easy and steady training runs, including a longest run just over 10 miles, and described its ride as soft and mellow at easier paces. The review also found it suitable for walking and being on one’s feet at work. Doctors of Running likewise highlights cushioning and a smooth transition as strengths.

Faster running and bounce
The trade-off is a less energetic ride. Tom’s Guide reports reduced energy return when pushing faster, while RTINGS rates overall energy return poorly and describes the ride as comfort-oriented rather than lively. If you want noticeable bounce for faster workouts, the Clifton 11 may feel flat. These are reviewer and lab assessments, not a guarantee of how it will feel to you.
Cushioning and stability
RTINGS found strong overall cushioning, particularly at the heel, and good stability overall. It also judged the Clifton 11 less stable than the Clifton 10, citing the softer heel and non-gusseted tongue. Doctors of Running notes a medial-facing heel bevel that may take time to break in. If you are sensitive to heel geometry or need a particular kind of support, try the shoe rather than treating “neutral” as a fit recommendation.

Clifton 11 specifications: official figures versus lab measurements
Figures vary with shoe size and measurement method. HOKA’s Thailand listing gives its product specifications, while RTINGS reports measurements from its tested sample; those numbers should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Measure | HOKA Thailand product listing | RTINGS tested sample |
|---|---|---|
| Heel-to-toe drop | 8 mm advertised | 10.2 mm measured |
| Men’s M10 stack | 42 mm heel / 34 mm forefoot | 41.9 mm heel / 31.7 mm forefoot measured; size-specific sample |
| Weight | 292 g for men’s M10 | 261.1 g for RTINGS’ sample; size and method differ from the official listing |
| Women’s W8 listing | 38 mm heel / 30 mm forefoot; 236 g | Not stated by RTINGS for a matching size |
HOKA’s 8 mm drop is the advertised specification, not the drop RTINGS measured. The difference is a reason to distinguish manufacturer specifications from measurements of a particular sample—not evidence that every pair has the lab’s dimensions.

How does the Clifton 11 fit?
RTINGS found its sample true to size and noted more toe height than in the Clifton 10. That supports starting with your usual size, but it does not establish width availability or guarantee the right fit for every foot. Check the width options and return policy in your market, and try the shoe on if toe volume or heel feel is important to you.
Is the Clifton 11 suitable for wet or warm weather?
RTINGS rated breathability mediocre. In its lab test, the shoe took 36.2 hours to dry fully after being wetted. That is a specific test result, not a forecast for drying time in every climate or for every wearer. If you run in hot, humid conditions or regularly get caught in rain, this is a trade-off worth considering.

Clifton 11 vs. Clifton Pro and Clifton 10
| Choice | What the cited reviews suggest | Best fit for this preference |
|---|---|---|
| Clifton 11 | Comfortable, cushioned ride for easier running and walking; limited energy return at faster paces, according to Tom’s Guide and RTINGS. | Everyday miles and comfort over a springy feel. |
| Clifton Pro | Tom’s Guide’s reviewer found it more resilient and bouncy than the Clifton 11. | More energetic response, based on that reviewer’s comparison. |
| Clifton 10 | RTINGS found the Clifton 11’s heel softer and its stability somewhat lower, while describing both in the broad daily-trainer context. | Worth considering if you already know the Clifton 10 works for you and prefer its firmer, more stable feel. |
These are review-based distinctions, not a controlled head-to-head verdict for every runner. T3 also lists the Brooks Ghost 18, ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28, Saucony Ride 19, New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 v15, and Nike Pegasus 42 among competing versatile trainers; the available evidence here does not establish a universal winner among them.

Quick Recap
Who should choose the Clifton 11?
- Consider it if your priority is cushioning for easy daily runs, walking, or standing for extended periods.
- Try it first if your fit depends on a particular width, heel feel, or toe volume; the available fit finding is specific to RTINGS’ sample.
- Look elsewhere or compare in person if you want a distinctly bouncy ride for faster running, since reviewers found the Clifton 11’s energy return limited.
- Compare with the Clifton 10 if you prefer a firmer heel or place a premium on the stability RTINGS found relatively lower in the newer model.
