Choose Hogwarts Legacy for the Wizarding World
Hogwarts Legacy is officially described as a single-player, open-world action RPG set in the 1800s in the world introduced by the Harry Potter books. Its official description highlights exploring Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest and surrounding areas, as well as learning spells, brewing potions, growing plants and tending magical beasts.
That makes it the clearest fit if the setting itself is your main draw: you want a solo adventure focused on visiting familiar places and taking part in magical activities. The official FAQ identifies it as single-player; do not buy it expecting co-op or multiplayer.

The official site lists PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Listings can vary by region, platform generation and edition, so confirm the exact store listing for your device before purchasing. The platform list does not by itself establish current stock or physical-disc availability.
Choose The Witcher 3 for a more story-driven fantasy RPG
If your priority is a story-driven fantasy RPG rather than the Wizarding World setting, consider The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Its publisher promotes a remastered version with visual, performance and gameplay enhancements. GamesRadar’s 2026 roundup also characterizes the game as story-driven and praises its side quests; that is editorial judgment, not an objective measure of which game is better.

Skyrim and Elden Ring are established alternatives that readers bring into this comparison, but the available evidence here does not support a reliable feature-by-feature verdict against Hogwarts Legacy or The Witcher 3. If either is on your shortlist, decide based on the play style and platform you want, and check current official listings for the specific edition you are considering.
