Hitman: Absolution on Switch 2 does not have a publicly documented Nintendo button chart in the available official material. Feral Interactive’s manual documents the gamepad functions in generic terms, while Nintendo’s 2025 listing confirms gyro aiming, handheld, tabletop and TV modes, and Pro Controller support. Use the function map below as a guide, then open the game’s Controls Layout screen to confirm the exact A/B/X/Y, shoulder-button and stick-click assignments shown by your installation.

What is officially confirmed about the Switch version

Nintendo lists Hitman: Absolution as Nintendo Switch download software with a 13 November 2025 release date. The product description says the game contains 20 missions, supports handheld, tabletop and TV play, works with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and includes gyro aiming. Nintendo describes the port as “fully optimised for Nintendo Switch and tailored for play at home or on the go.”

Those platform details do not provide a dedicated Switch 2 button diagram. Feral’s official manual uses a generic dual-analog gamepad illustration. It identifies what each control does, but not the physical Nintendo labels that appear on your Joy-Con or Pro Controller. A future patch, regional build or control remap can also change the displayed assignment, so the in-game layout is the authority for your copy.

Generic gamepad control map

The following is a functional map transcribed from Feral Interactive’s manual. “Aim shoulder control” and similar wording describe an action, not a guaranteed Nintendo button. Look for the same action name in the Switch 2 layout screen.

How to verify every Switch 2 button

Do this before starting a serious infiltration. It takes less time than guessing which stick click performs a takedown or accidentally firing in a restricted area.

  1. Launch the game and open the pause menu.
  2. Choose the settings or options section, then open Controls Layout (the exact surrounding menu wording can vary by build).
  3. Select the gamepad or controller view that matches your hardware. Check Joy-Con controls separately from a Pro Controller if you switch between them.
  4. Read the entries for movement, camera, sneak, aim, shoot, Instinct, interact, cover, drag body, disguise, holster and camera-shoulder switch. These are the actions most often needed during the opening minutes of a mission.
  5. Return to a safe area and press each non-destructive action once. Test camera movement, sneak, Instinct and the shoulder switch before testing a firearm.
  6. If the game offers a remap or alternate layout, record your changes. A remap can move the action while the manual’s functional descriptions remain unchanged.

Do not infer a button from the location of a symbol on another platform’s diagram. The manual’s left-stick movement, right-stick camera and stick-click actions are reliable functional descriptions; the Nintendo face-button labels are not supplied there.

Stealth controls: a reliable sequence

Absolution’s stealth play is less about one secret button than about chaining several context actions in the correct order. Cover, disguises, distractions, body hiding, silent takedowns and Instinct work together.

1. Approach with sneak and cover

Use the movement-stick click for sneak according to the generic manual mapping, then move toward an obstacle or wall. When a cover prompt appears, use the take-cover action shown in your layout. Cover reduces the chance of being seen while you watch patrols and wait for a gap.

When the game indicates another cover point, move between the two rather than crossing the open route. Use the right stick to check both sides before leaving cover. The camera-shoulder switch can expose more of the corner without moving Agent 47; it changes the viewing side, not necessarily his facing direction.

2. Create a distraction

Items can serve as weapons, distractions or both. Pick up an available object, select it if necessary, and use the throw or drop action displayed by the game. A distraction can pull one guard away from a group, open a path to cover or create time for a takedown. Completing distractions also helps replenish the Instinct meter.

3. Perform a takedown and move the body

Get close without entering an enemy’s alert state and use the contextual melee or takedown action. Afterward, use the drag-body action to move the target. Place the body in an appropriate hiding spot rather than leaving it beside the route; a discovered body can undo an otherwise clean approach.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Take a disguise deliberately

Near an eligible body or clothing bundle, hold the take-disguise action shown in the Controls Layout screen. A disguise changes where Agent 47 can go, but it does not make every observer harmless. Instinct can temporarily help him blend in with people wearing the same type of outfit, so use it when passing members of that group.

5. Use Instinct as information, not just concealment

Instinct highlights useful items and objectives, predicts enemy routes and supports blending in with a matching disguise. Activate it before committing to a crossing, then watch the predicted paths and identify the object or objective you need. The meter can be replenished by completing objectives, creating distractions and making stealthy takedowns; spending it continuously without a plan leaves less available for a difficult passage.

6. Holster before entering social spaces

Use the holster-weapon action whenever a visible firearm or other weapon would attract attention. Select the appropriate weapon category only when you need it, and use the toggle-silencer action when the equipped weapon supports that modifier. These are separate weapon-state actions in the manual, so do not assume selecting a weapon also holsters it or changes its silencer.

Aiming, shooting and precision control

Normal firearm aiming

Hold the aim shoulder control, move the reticle with the camera stick and press the shoot input. Reload is a separate action. The manual also identifies a precision-aim input that is available while aiming; use it when a small reticle correction matters instead of making large camera-stick movements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Gyro-assisted aiming

Nintendo confirms gyro aiming for the Switch edition. Treat it as an optional fine-adjustment method: use the stick to turn toward the target, then make small physical controller movements to settle the reticle. Because the official listing does not state a universal gyro toggle, sensitivity or activation button, open the game’s controller settings and adjust the options shown on your system. A Pro Controller and handheld Joy-Con setup can feel different because their shape, weight and screen position differ.

Point shooting

Point shooting is a deliberate Instinct sequence, not an alternative name for ordinary aiming:

  1. Enter Instinct.
  2. Aim at the targets you want to include.
  3. Tag each target using the prompt displayed by the game.
  4. Take the shots after the targets are tagged.

Practice this in a safe section so you can distinguish the Instinct input, normal aim input and tag prompt. If you press shoot before completing the tagging step, you are performing ordinary firearm shooting rather than the manual’s point-shooting sequence.

Quick-turns: what is and is not documented

The researched primary sources do not define a named “quick-turn” action and do not assign a Switch 2 button to a 180-degree turn. Do not treat a face-button combination, a stick click or a double tap from another platform as confirmed behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is documented is a camera-shoulder switch: click the camera stick to move the over-the-shoulder view to the opposite side. That can help you see around a corner or align a shot, but it should not be described as a quick-turn unless your own in-game Controls Layout explicitly labels it that way. For a rapid change of direction, use the camera stick and movement stick together, or follow any clearly named quick-turn command your installed build displays.

Choosing a control setup

Setup Strengths Trade-offs Best use
Stick-only aiming Consistent, familiar and unaffected by controller motion. Fine reticle corrections depend entirely on camera-stick control. Players who prefer a fixed controller position or do not want motion input.
Stick plus gyro Stick turns the view while small wrist movements can refine aim; Nintendo specifically lists gyro aiming. Requires sensitivity adjustment and a stable handheld or controller position. Precision shots after a fast camera turn.
Handheld Joy-Con Supports portable play and keeps the screen and controls together. Separated controls and screen weight may make long gyro adjustments feel different. Travel, short sessions and tabletop-style portability.
Pro Controller Traditional full-size gamepad shape and listed compatibility. Requires a separate screen for handheld-free play and may use different gyro sensitivity in practice. TV play and players who prefer a larger grip.
Stealth-first technique Uses sneak, cover, distractions, disguises, body hiding and Instinct to avoid firefights. Requires patience and awareness of patrol routes. Infiltration, restricted areas and clean takedowns.
Point-shooting technique Instinct lets you tag multiple targets before firing. Consumes an Instinct sequence and is not the same as ordinary aim-and-fire. Deliberate multi-target combat when stealth has broken down.

There is no evidence in the cited material that one setup is objectively faster or more accurate for every player. Choose the arrangement that lets you identify the correct prompts without looking away from the scene, then practice that arrangement until the stick clicks and shoulder controls are automatic.

Common control problems and fixes

The button shown online does not match your controller

Use the in-game Controls Layout instead of a platform-neutral diagram. Feral’s manual names functions, not Nintendo face-button labels. Check whether the game is displaying a Joy-Con or Pro Controller layout and whether a custom remap is active.

You cannot find a quick-turn command

That may be expected. No named quick-turn is established by the cited official sources. Verify the layout, use the camera-shoulder switch for corner visibility, and turn with the analog sticks unless your build explicitly lists another action.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Gyro aiming does nothing

Confirm that you are using a supported controller mode, open the motion or aiming settings available in your build, and check whether gyro activates only while aiming. Nintendo confirms the feature exists, but the listing does not specify one universal toggle or sensitivity value.

Agent 47 keeps getting spotted while disguised

Use Instinct when passing people wearing the same outfit, keep the weapon holstered and avoid assuming that every observer accepts the disguise. Move through cover when possible and use predicted enemy routes to time the crossing.

A body is discovered after a successful takedown

Use the drag-body action immediately after the takedown and place the body in a suitable hiding spot. A distraction can clear the route before you move the body, and completing stealthy takedowns contributes to restoring Instinct.

Five-minute control check before a mission

  • Open Controls Layout and confirm the current controller profile.
  • Identify left-stick movement, right-stick camera, both stick clicks, aim, shoot, reload and Instinct.
  • Test cover, interact, pick up, drag body, take disguise and holster in a safe location.
  • Check the camera-shoulder switch, but do not assume it is a 180-degree turn.
  • Decide whether you will use stick-only or gyro-assisted aiming and set motion sensitivity if the menu provides it.
  • Practice the Instinct point-shooting order: enter, aim, tag, then fire.

Once these actions are confirmed on your own Switch 2 display, the generic manual map is enough to understand the game’s control logic without guessing at platform-specific labels.
