Hitachi R-V410PT8GPW Review: Size, Energy Use and What Buyers Should Check

The Hitachi R-V410PT8GPW is a discontinued, right-hinged top-freezer refrigerator with 375 L of recorded capacity and a claimed energy use of 268 kWh per year. Its published specifications make it possible to judge the fit and basic configuration, but the public review record does not reveal enough test results to establish how well it performs. Treat the listed $999 as historical, not a current offer, and confirm local stock, service support and the exact model suffix before buying.

Is the Hitachi R-V410PT8GPW a good fridge?

It may suit a household looking for a relatively compact top-freezer layout, provided the unit is available in good condition and fits the installation space. The recorded 375 L capacity is divided into a 250 L refrigerator and 125 L freezer. CHOICE categorizes it as small, within its 300–380 L range. CHOICE’s exact-model page identifies 2020 as the test year, but its expert rating and detailed results are restricted to members. The public information does not support a performance score or a claim that CHOICE recommended the model.

This is therefore a specifications-led assessment, not a hands-on review. The feature list is useful for understanding what the PT8 family was designed to offer; it cannot tell you how a particular old-stock or used unit is cooling now.

How big is the Hitachi R-V410PT8GPW?

CHOICE records the cabinet at 161 cm high, 65 cm wide and 72 cm deep. Its recommended installation space is 166 × 75 × 77 cm. Measure the route into the kitchen as well as the final location, and check the current manual and the actual site before installation. Leave the specified ventilation space rather than treating the cabinet dimensions as the full footprint.

These are the exact-model values listed by CHOICE. The finish is white glass, and the door is right-hinged; confirm that the hinge orientation and finish match the unit being offered.

How much electricity does it use?

CHOICE records a claimed energy consumption of 268 kWh per year and a 4.5-star energy rating for this model. Hitachi Australia’s January 2019 PT8 family product sheet also lists 268 kWh per year. These are published claims, not an independently recalculated household running-cost estimate. Your bill depends on your electricity tariff, room temperature, use and the condition of an aging appliance.

To estimate an annual cost, multiply 268 by your tariff in dollars per kWh; for example, at $0.30/kWh the arithmetic gives $80.40 per year. That is a simple estimate using the recorded annual-use figure, not a guarantee of actual consumption or cost.

What features does the PT8 model offer?

Hitachi Australia’s January 2019 product sheet describes the R-V410PT8 family as using inverter cooling and dedicated fans for compartments. It lists LED lighting, tempered-glass shelves, a slide-out chilled case, a vegetable compartment, a movable twist ice tray, no-frost operation, and a Triple Power Filter. It also describes an Eco-Thermo Sensor and mould-proof door gasket. Confirm features on the specific GPW unit and its documentation, since the sheet covers a product family and cautions that models and specifications can change.

Hitachi’s sheet says its Eco Thermo Sensor detects temperature changes inside the refrigerator, after which a microcomputer provides cooling intended to operate efficiently. That is a manufacturer description, not independent evidence of temperature stability or energy savings in normal use.

The official R-V410PT8 instruction manual covers installation, storage, temperature control, cleaning and troubleshooting for this and related models. Hitachi states that maintenance work must be carried out at a workshop by a well-trained maintenance worker.

Is the Hitachi R-V410PT8GPW discontinued?

Yes. CHOICE marks the exact model as discontinued. Its page displays $999, but that is a historical listed price rather than a current market price or evidence of present stock. Availability and pricing may differ by country and seller; check the full model number, white-glass finish, condition, delivery terms and return policy before paying.

Can you still get parts or service?

Parts availability is not established by the manual or the discontinued listing. A Malaysia-based third-party seller has listed a door rubber for the exact R-V410PT8GPW, which shows a possible replacement-part route but does not establish current stock, Hitachi authorization, compatibility across production revisions, or availability in Australia or elsewhere. Confirm the complete model suffix and part fit with the seller or local Hitachi service before ordering. The third-party gasket listing is a lead to verify, not a guarantee of supply.

The PT8 family sheet from January 2019 described five years of parts and labour warranty plus a further five years of inverter-compressor parts warranty. Those historical terms should not be assumed to apply to a unit bought now: verify the purchase market, purchase date and written warranty terms with the seller or manufacturer.

What to check before buying a used or old-stock unit

  • Cooling: Let the appliance run and check that both compartments cool; do not rely on appearance alone.
  • Door seal: Inspect the gasket for damage, hardening or gaps and make sure the door closes evenly.
  • Noise: Listen for unusual or persistent compressor noise during operation.
  • Fit and ventilation: Measure the cabinet, delivery route and installation area, including clearance for ventilation.
  • Support: Ask a local repair provider whether it can service this model and source compatible parts.
  • Sale terms: Get the return period, delivery condition and any warranty coverage in writing.

These are practical inspection checks, not reported failure findings for this model. A refrigerator’s current condition matters more than a historical feature sheet.

Verdict

The R-V410PT8GPW’s recorded capacity, footprint and energy claim are straightforward, and its top-freezer, no-frost configuration may meet basic needs. The main uncertainties are its discontinued status, present service and parts access, and the lack of public model-specific test results. Consider one only after checking the particular unit, installation clearances, return terms and repair support in your area.
