The Hitachi HRBN6340EXAU is a 600mm-wide, bottom-mount refrigerator with three freezer drawers and a dedicated dairy chiller. Hitachi lists 323L total capacity, while CHOICE reports 321L; the difference is unexplained in the available listings. Its published specifications include a 3.5-star energy rating, 321kWh/year consumption at 32°C, 40dBA noise and a five-year product warranty. CHOICE says it tested the model in 2025, but the detailed results are restricted to members, so the accessible evidence does not support a performance verdict.
What kind of refrigerator is it?
The HRBN6340EXAU is a freestanding bottom-mount refrigerator in Pearl Steel. The freezer sits below the refrigerator compartment, with three drawers for separating frozen food. The design is relatively narrow at 600mm wide, but its 670mm body depth and 1720mm height still need to be checked against the intended space.

How much storage does it offer?
Hitachi’s current Australian product specification lists 323L total volume: 233L for the refrigerator and 90L for the freezer. CHOICE lists the same claimed compartment figures but gives the total as 321L. Neither source explains the 2L difference, so treat total capacity as a discrepancy rather than a settled figure. Hitachi’s specification and CHOICE’s model page are the relevant listings.

The cabinet has four shelves, three of which are height-adjustable. Hitachi also lists a Max Fresh humidity-controlled crisper and a slide-out dairy compartment designed to operate at 0°C–5°C. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not establish how well food stays fresh in independent testing.

Freezer compartment
The freezer has three drawers and a movable ice box/tray with a double-twist ice maker. The drawer layout makes it possible to separate items, but the stated 90L freezer capacity should be considered alongside the household’s actual frozen-food needs.
Will it fit your kitchen?
The listed external dimensions are 600mm wide × 670mm deep × 1720mm high. Hitachi gives net weight as 66kg and gross weight as 70kg. The manufacturer’s September 2024 specification sheet includes suggested clearance labels and a 130-degree door-opening arc; use the current manual and check the installation site rather than treating the cabinet dimensions as the full space requirement. The September 2024 specification sheet shows the diagram.

- Measure the available width, depth and height, including any required ventilation or installation clearances.
- Check that the door can open far enough without hitting walls, counters or nearby cabinetry.

What features and running specifications are listed?
Hitachi describes the refrigerator and freezer as having separate cooling systems, which it says provide separate airflow and temperatures for each compartment. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified performance result. Other listed features include an active odour filter, mould-free door gasket, side-wall LED lighting, Eco and Holiday modes, and an open-door alarm.

What do independent review results show?
CHOICE identifies the HRBN6340EXAU as tested in 2025. The accessible page shows a 3.5-star energy rating, 321kWh/year claimed consumption and a five-year warranty, but restricts detailed scores and results—including temperature performance, noise testing, reliability and satisfaction—to members. It therefore does not provide enough visible evidence to say whether the refrigerator performed well or to rank it against alternatives.

Winning Appliances displayed a 4.6 rating from 48 customer reviews when its listing was accessed. Some visible reviews mention the storage layout, quiet operation and perceived size, but customer comments are anecdotes rather than representative product testing; some were marked as promotional collection. Price, stock and review totals can change. The retailer listing showed $825 against a $1,099 RRP at that time, but that is a volatile snapshot, not a guaranteed current price or delivered cost.
Who should consider the HRBN6340EXAU?
It is worth considering if you need a bottom-mount refrigerator around 600mm wide and value three freezer drawers, adjustable shelves and a separate dairy chiller. Before deciding, check whether the listed capacity is sufficient, allow for installation clearances and door movement, and compare the delivered price and written warranty terms. If measured performance is central to your choice, CHOICE’s restricted test results are not visible on its public page.

Verdict
The HRBN6340EXAU has a clearly specified compact-width layout and useful organization features, but the evidence supports a specification-based assessment rather than a performance recommendation. The unexplained capacity discrepancy and unavailable public test scores are the main reasons to verify details before buying.
