The Hisense UR8SG is a 2026 upper-midrange RGB MiniLED TV: a step below the UR9SG and above standard MiniLED models such as the U7SG. Its appeal is a bright, feature-rich picture and strong gaming support, but independent reviews found that its RGB color effect does not make it an OLED-beater. Whether it is good value depends on your country, screen size and current price.

What the UR8SG is—and which models this review covers

Hisense positions the UR8SG as its more accessible RGB MiniLED offering. RTINGS identifies it as the least expensive RGB Mini LED in the company’s lineup, between the UR9SG and U7SG. Hisense’s U.S. support pages identify the 65UR8SG and 100UR8SG as UR8 Series RGB MiniLED 4K Google TV models: 65-inch model and 100-inch model.

RTINGS bought and tested the 65-inch version. Its review covers the 55-, 65-, 75-, 85- and 100-inch variants and says its findings apply to those sizes. The reviewer notes that larger models have more dimming zones but expects broadly similar performance because zone area is similar. That is an extrapolation from the 65-inch test, not separate lab testing of all five sizes. RTINGS’ review

Do not assume similarly named regional models share specifications. Hisense India lists an UR8S family, including the 55UR8S, with different feature language such as 144Hz Game Mode Pro. That is not evidence for the UR8SG: check the complete model suffix and local specification sheet before buying. Hisense India’s RGB MiniLED page

Picture quality: bright highlights, but not OLED-like black levels

TechRadar’s hands-on review found good image quality and contrast, while concluding that the RGB color effect fell short of the reviewer’s highest expectations. The set is not an OLED killer. In its comparison, the LG C6 delivered deeper blacks, bolder colors and better motion handling, while the UR8 was brighter for bright-room viewing. Those are review judgments, not a universal outcome for every room or viewing preference. TechRadar’s review

The brightness measurements help explain the set’s strengths and limits. TechRadar used a colorimeter and test-pattern generator; the figures below are its 2026 review-sample results, not manufacturer guarantees. A 10% window measures a small bright area, while fullscreen readings show how brightness changes when the whole screen is lit.

Mode 10% window Fullscreen
HDR Filmmaker 2,097 nits 771 nits
HDR Standard 2,394 nits 767 nits
SDR Standard 1,514 nits 778 nits

The HDR results show why it can make highlights pop without sustaining the same luminance across a full white screen. For a bright room, compare the TV’s reflection handling and full-screen behavior as well as peak-window figures; the peak number alone does not describe the entire picture.

Gaming: capable, but set up the input correctly

TechRadar lists up to 180Hz, four HDMI 2.1 ports and VRR including FreeSync Premium Pro. Its review reports 4K/120Hz console support and smooth play in Battlefield V at 4K/120Hz, although fast camera pans sometimes softened textures. The maximum refresh figure and a console’s supported output are different capabilities; check the local model and source device requirements.

Input lag depended on configuration in TechRadar’s test. At 4K/60Hz, it measured 11.7ms after enabling Game mode and an additional refresh-rate setting; without those adjustments, it measured 20ms. Treat the lower figure as a result under those conditions rather than a guaranteed out-of-box measurement. Look for the corresponding game and refresh settings in the local TV menu if low lag matters.

Smart TV, HDR and sound vary by region

TechRadar lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, along with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. It reports Google TV for the U.S. and VIDAA for the U.K. and Australia. Its specification table also lists an ATSC 3.0 tuner. Confirm the platform, tuner and feature set for the exact regional model before purchase; the U.S. support pages confirm Google TV for the cited U.S. models, not every market.

The same review describes a 2.1.2-channel, 70W built-in speaker system tuned by Devialet. The reviewer found solid bass and dialogue, but described Theater mode as sometimes harsh and the soundstage as narrow. These are listening impressions from that review, not a guarantee of how it will sound in every room.

Prices and value: use current local offers, not launch prices

TechRadar reported June 2026 U.S. and July 2026 U.K. launches. Its published launch prices were:

Screen size U.S. launch price U.K. launch price Australia launch price
55-inch $1,299 £1,699 AU$1,895
65-inch $1,999 £2,299 AU$2,495
75-inch $2,499 £2,999 AU$3,195
85-inch $3,499 £3,499 AU$4,695
100-inch $5,999 £7,999 not stated by TechRadar

These are launch prices, not current offers. At the time of its review, TechRadar noted U.S. prices had fallen, citing $1,499 for the 65-inch and a low of $999 for the 55-inch; those dated observations are not live prices. It judged value stronger in the U.S. and Australia than in the U.K., where pricing overlapped with OLED alternatives. Check today’s local price and compare the same screen size against OLED and other MiniLED options before deciding.

Who should consider the UR8SG?

  • Consider it if a bright-room-friendly, large-screen set with extensive gaming connections and HDR-format support is your priority, and its current local price is competitive.
  • Compare OLED first if deep blacks, saturated color and motion handling matter more than bright-room output, especially when prices are close.
  • Verify before ordering if you are buying outside the U.S., U.K. or Australia, need a particular tuner or streaming platform, or are comparing a non-UR8SG regional variant.

Verdict

The UR8SG is a capable upper-midrange RGB MiniLED TV whose case rests on brightness, feature breadth and gaming support—not on replacing OLED. Its measured peak HDR brightness is much higher than its fullscreen result, and gaming lag improved with the tested settings. The 65-inch sample is the only size RTINGS explicitly tested, so treat conclusions for other sizes as reviewer extrapolation. Buy on the strength of your exact regional model and current price, not launch pricing or the RGB label alone.
