Neither the Hisense U7SG nor the TCL QM7L is a clear winner for every viewer. RTINGS’ September 2026 comparison favors the U7SG for reflection handling, low-quality-content processing, out-of-box color accuracy and HDR tracking. Tom’s Guide sees the QM7L as the punchier-looking set and leans toward it for shoppers seeking the strongest performance in this price tier. Choose based on your room, preferred picture and the current price for the same screen size.

Hisense U7SG vs TCL QM7L at a glance

Feature Hisense U7SG TCL QM7L
Display type 4K LCD with VA subtype; Mini-LED Pro backlighting listed by Hisense 4K LCD with VA subtype
Native refresh rate 165 Hz (RTINGS, September 10, 2026) 144 Hz (RTINGS, September 10, 2026)
Screen finish Matte (RTINGS, September 10, 2026) Glossy (RTINGS, September 10, 2026)
Dolby Vision Yes (RTINGS, September 10, 2026) Yes (RTINGS, September 10, 2026)
Picture distinction RTINGS favors its reflection handling, processing of lower-quality content, out-of-box color accuracy and HDR PQ EOTF tracking. Tom’s Guide describes its SQD color presentation as more vivid and punchy.

These findings measure different things: a more saturated impression is not the same as more accurate color or closer HDR tracking. The two reviewers’ conclusions therefore need not conflict. RTINGS’ side-by-side comparison and Tom’s Guide’s comparison offer different lenses on the choice.

Which TV is better in a bright room?

The U7SG is the stronger evidence-based pick if windows or lamps are likely to reflect in the screen. RTINGS lists its finish as matte and specifically favors its reflection handling over the QM7L. The QM7L has a glossy finish, so it may be less suitable when you cannot control light sources opposite the TV.

Room layout still matters: a matte screen does not eliminate all reflections, and direct sunlight can make viewing difficult. If possible, place either TV away from windows and check how the screen looks in your room’s daytime lighting.

How do their colors and HDR pictures differ?

Choose the QM7L for a punchier look

Tom’s Guide says the QM7L’s SQD approach gives it a more vivid, punchy presentation than the U7SG’s traditional quantum-dot display. That may appeal if you prefer saturated colors and a more immediately striking image. It is an editorial description of the look, not proof that the TCL is more color-accurate.

Choose the U7SG for measured accuracy and tracking

RTINGS favors the U7SG for out-of-box color accuracy and HDR PQ EOTF tracking. In practical terms, those findings point to a more accurate starting picture and stronger tracking of the intended HDR brightness curve in RTINGS’ evaluation. They do not mean every viewer will prefer its image to the TCL’s punchier presentation.

Tom’s Guide’s U7SG review describes the Hisense as a strong mid-range option, while identifying muddy blacks and shadows as a drawback. Consider that if dark-scene detail is especially important to you.

Which one makes more sense for gaming and motion?

RTINGS lists the U7SG at 165 Hz native refresh and the QM7L at 144 Hz. That gives the Hisense the higher listed refresh rate, but refresh rate alone does not establish which TV is the better gaming display. The comparison evidence here does not settle other gaming factors such as input lag, supported variable-refresh features or performance across specific consoles and PC configurations.

Tom’s Guide cites gaming as one of the U7SG’s strengths in its review. If gaming is your main reason to buy, check the detailed specifications and compatibility for your console or PC before deciding; do not choose on the refresh-rate number alone.

Do prices and screen sizes change the recommendation?

Compare the two TVs at the same size and using the price available from the seller you would actually buy from. Review prices are dated context, not current offers: Tom’s Guide’s August 2026 U7SG review mentioned a $899 sale price, while its QM7L review reported a $1,200 listed price for the 55-inch model and sale pricing as low as $1,000 at the time it covered the set. Those figures come from separate review contexts and do not establish which TV is cheaper now.

Hisense’s US U7 series product page lists 55-, 65-, 75-, 85- and 100-inch options. Its 2026 U7SG specification sheet names the 55U7SG, 65U7SG, 75U7SG and 85U7SG and specifies LCD with Mini-LED Pro backlighting. The cited material does not establish the QM7L’s full size range, so verify available sizes for your market and seller rather than assuming matching options.

Tom’s Guide calls the QM7L the most affordable entry to TCL’s SQD Mini-LED tier, but that positioning does not guarantee it will cost less than the U7SG at the size you want. Stock and pricing change; check current listings before treating either review price as a deal.

Which TV should you buy?

  • Choose the Hisense U7SG if reflections are a recurring problem, you value RTINGS’ findings on processing and out-of-box accuracy, or its current same-size price is more attractive.
  • Consider the TCL QM7L if you prefer its more vivid, punchy color presentation and its current same-size price works for you.
  • Compare both carefully if gaming or dark-room movie viewing is your priority. The refresh-rate figures alone do not determine gaming performance, and Tom’s Guide flags muddy blacks and shadows as a U7SG drawback.

The reviewers reach different editorial emphases: RTINGS’ direct comparison favors the U7SG overall, while Tom’s Guide’s comparison leans toward the QM7L for those seeking performance in this price tier. Neither verdict replaces checking the picture qualities you care about and the live price for the exact size.
