For the US 2025 models, the Hisense U8QG is the stronger pick for bright-room viewing and HDR movies; the U75QG, also called the U7QG, is the better-value choice when it costs meaningfully less and its gaming features fit your setup. Both advertise native 165Hz refresh, so the deciding factors are picture priorities, same-size prices and available connections—not the refresh-rate headline alone.
Which Hisense should you buy?
- Choose the U8QG if HDR highlights, vivid HDR color or a bright room matter most and the price premium is acceptable. Hisense places it in a higher advertised brightness tier, and Tom’s Guide reports more local dimming zones and better HDR color volume than the U75QG.
- Choose the U75QG/U7QG if you want to spend less while keeping a high-refresh gaming feature set. It is not simply an entry-level gaming compromise; the value depends on the actual same-size price difference.
- Check your device count if you connect several consoles, a PC, a receiver or other HDMI gear: the U75QG has four HDMI inputs, while the U8QG has three HDMI inputs plus USB-C.
This comparison is specifically about US 2025 models: U75QG/U7QG and U8QG. “U7” and “U8” names vary by year and market; Hisense’s US lineup also features newer naming such as U7SG. Confirm the full model suffix and generation on the listing before comparing prices. Hisense’s US television lineup and its 2025 ULED announcement identify the relevant families.

Movies: when the U8QG’s picture upgrade matters
HDR movies and bright rooms
The U8QG is the more compelling choice for HDR content viewed in a bright room. Its higher manufacturer-advertised brightness tier is paired with Tom’s Guide’s report of more local dimming zones and greater HDR color volume than the U75QG. Those advantages are most relevant to bright highlights and colorful HDR scenes; they do not establish that every viewer will notice the same improvement in every movie.

Dark-room and standard viewing
If most of your viewing is in a dark room or uses standard rather than HDR material, the available comparison does not establish that the U8QG’s improvement is worth any particular surcharge. Compare current prices for the same screen size and decide whether the HDR strengths justify the difference for the content and room you actually have.
Screen size changes what review findings mean
RTINGS tested a 65-inch U8QG and says most results should also apply to the 85-inch model. It reports that the 55- and 75-inch versions are said to use ADS Pro panels rather than VA panels, so the 65-inch review’s main findings should not be treated as valid for those sizes. RTINGS also cautions that actual peak brightness likely differs by size. Check the exact diagonal and model before applying a review’s contrast, viewing-angle or brightness observations to a purchase. RTINGS’ review explains its test-size caveats.

Gaming: both are high-refresh options, but check the signal path
U7 gaming features
Hisense lists 165Hz Game Mode Ultra, Game Booster 288Hz, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision Gaming and FreeSync Premium Pro for the 2025 U7. That is a substantial feature set for a price-conscious console or PC gamer. A 165Hz television specification does not mean a console game will output at 165 frames per second, and these feature claims do not establish a measured input-lag result. They describe supported capabilities, not the performance of every game or device.
HDMI versus USB-C on the U8QG
Both sets’ HDMI inputs are reported as HDMI 2.1. The U8QG’s USB-C display input is a separate connection path: RTINGS says it does not support VRR or 1080p at 288Hz through USB-C. That limitation does not describe HDMI gaming support. If a PC setup depends on those functions, verify which port and signal mode you plan to use rather than assuming USB-C behaves like HDMI.

Count connected devices before choosing
The U75QG’s fourth HDMI input can be more convenient if your setup has several devices. With the U8QG’s three HDMI inputs, count consoles, PC, receiver or sound system, and any other HDMI source. If you need more inputs, account for using a receiver or HDMI switch in your setup rather than assuming the sets have the same port layout. Port details are described in Tom’s Guide’s comparison and RTINGS’ U8QG review.
How to make the buying decision
- Match the exact model and size. Compare US 2025 U75QG/U7QG with U8QG, not a different year’s U7 or U8. Check the full suffix and diagonal on the product listing.
- Compare current prices at the same size. Older review prices are not current buying advice. Decide whether the U8QG’s HDR strengths merit the live premium for your budget and viewing habits.
- Match the TV to the room and content. Lean U8QG for HDR highlights, vivid HDR color or a bright room; the evidence does not establish a universal upgrade value for dark-room SDR viewing.
- Map your connections. Count HDMI devices and distinguish the U8QG’s HDMI ports from its USB-C input, especially for high-refresh PC use.
- Check size-specific reviews carefully. Do not apply 65-inch U8QG test findings indiscriminately to the 55- or 75-inch models.
Verdict
The U8QG is the performance pick for HDR movies and bright rooms; the U75QG/U7QG is the value pick when its same-size price is meaningfully lower and its four HDMI inputs or gaming feature set better suit your setup. The right buy is the one whose picture advantages, device connections and current price align—not simply the model with the larger number.
