Independent testing finds it improves input lag and contrast over the PX3-Pro, adds variable refresh rate (VRR), supports high-refresh 1080p gaming and uses HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. Choose the PX3-Pro if you specifically want Google TV, find it substantially cheaper in your region, or do not need the PX4 Pro’s gaming upgrades. The two projectors perform similarly overall, so the right choice depends more on those trade-offs than on a wholesale change in picture quality.
PX4 Pro vs. PX3-Pro: the decision in one table
| Decision factor | Hisense PX4 Pro | Hisense PX3-Pro | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall performance | Similar overall performance, with improvements in input lag, contrast and rainbow-effect handling according to RTINGS | Similar overall performance, but without those PX4-Pro improvements | Neither is an automatic winner for every room |
| Gaming features | VRR, HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and up to 240 Hz at 1080p; pixel-shift 4K | Does not support VRR in the cited comparison | PX4 Pro is the stronger choice for current consoles and gaming PCs |
| Smart-TV platform | VIDAA | Google TV | Choose based on app support, interface preference and the streaming devices you already use |
| Laser and optical design | TriChroma RGB ultra-short-throw design, LPU Digital Laser Engine 3.0, RGB triple-laser module, 0.47-inch DMD, DLP 8445 chip and precision iris lens | TriChroma laser projector; the cited product information does not list an equivalent full optical specification | PX4 Pro has the newer published hardware description |
| Manufacturer brightness claim | Hisense says its RGB triple-laser module provides 15% more brightness | Not stated in the cited material | The 15% figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured comparison |
| Maximum image size | Confirm the current regional specification and screen limits before installation | 150 inches, according to Hisense’s US product page | Screen size also depends on throw distance, screen geometry and room conditions |
| Native contrast specification | Not stated in the cited material | 3,000:1, according to Hisense’s product page | These are manufacturer specifications, not directly comparable laboratory measurements |
| US launch price and date | $3,999.99 MSRP; announced as available in the US on July 21, 2026 | Current price not established in the cited material | Check live regional listings; launch MSRP is not today’s guaranteed selling price |
RTINGS lists its PX3-Pro testing as updated September 14, 2026 and its PX4-Pro testing as updated August 21, 2026. Those dates matter because firmware, app support and retail availability can change after launch. The comparison page is the basis for the relative performance and feature differences above; Hisense’s product pages are the basis for the hardware specifications.

What the PX4 Pro changes
Newer RGB triple-laser hardware
Hisense describes the PX4 Pro as a TriChroma RGB ultra-short-throw projector built around its LPU Digital Laser Engine 3.0. The US product page identifies an RGB triple-laser module, a 0.47-inch DMD, a DLP 8445 chip and a precision iris lens. Hisense also says the RGB module delivers “15% more brightness.” That number should be read exactly as a manufacturer description: the cited material does not provide an independent, controlled brightness measurement against the PX3-Pro, so it cannot establish that the PX4 Pro is 15% brighter in every viewing mode or room.

Ultra-short-throw (UST) placement puts the projector very close to the wall or screen while creating a large image. The optical design makes alignment and screen choice more consequential than with a conventional long-throw projector. A rigid, flat screen and a cabinet that cannot be bumped are particularly important because a small positional change can move the image noticeably.

Better measured priorities, not a completely different class of picture
RTINGS characterizes the two models as similar overall, then gives the PX4 Pro advantages in input lag, contrast and rainbow-effect handling. That is a more useful description than calling the newer model universally superior. If you mostly watch films and television in a controlled room, the PX3-Pro can still deliver the core UST experience; the PX4 Pro’s gains become most apparent when you play games, view difficult dark scenes or are sensitive to color-fringing artifacts.
What Hi-Fi? also reports that the PX4 Pro controlled bright image elements against dark sections better than the PX3 and less expensive UST projectors during its viewing evaluation. This is a reviewer observation rather than a controlled measurement, so treat it as supporting evidence about perceived contrast, not as a numerical performance claim.
Picture quality: contrast, highlights and rainbow artifacts
Contrast and dark-scene detail
Contrast determines how convincingly a projector separates a bright object from a dark background. RTINGS reports better contrast for the PX4 Pro, while What Hi-Fi? describes cleaner control of bright elements against dark areas. In practice, that can help with night scenes, star fields, subtitles over dark images and games that mix bright interface elements with shadowed environments.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe PX3-Pro’s official US specification lists 3,000:1 native contrast. That figure comes from Hisense and is not a directly comparable independent measurement alongside the PX4 Pro. Do not combine the manufacturer’s ratio with RTINGS’ relative assessment to calculate a percentage improvement; the two figures describe different measurement contexts.
Rainbow-effect handling
Single-chip DLP projectors can show brief red, green or blue flashes—often called the rainbow effect—when viewers move their eyes across high-contrast scenes. RTINGS finds the PX4 Pro handles this better than the PX3-Pro. Sensitivity varies widely: one viewer may never notice it, while another may see it around white subtitles, bright highlights or fast camera movement. If you or a family member is sensitive, auditioning the projector in person is more reliable than relying on specifications.

Color and HDR features
Both models belong to Hisense’s TriChroma laser family. The PX3-Pro product page specifically lists 4K AI upscaling and Dolby Vision. The cited PX4-Pro material identifies its RGB laser engine and pixel-shift 4K gaming mode, but does not provide a complete side-by-side HDR format list. Confirm the current manual and regional specification sheet for the exact HDR formats, picture modes and firmware behavior you need.
Pixel-shift 4K means the projector uses rapid optical or image-position changes to present a 4K-like image from a lower native imaging device. It is not the same as a native 4K DMD. For seating distance, screen size and source quality, those distinctions can matter more than the label on the box.
Gaming: where the PX4 Pro has the clearest advantage
VRR support
RTINGS lists VRR support for the PX4 Pro and not for the PX3-Pro. VRR synchronizes the display’s refresh timing with a game’s changing frame rate, reducing tearing and uneven motion when a console or PC cannot maintain a fixed output. It is most useful when frame rates fluctuate rather than when a game holds a perfectly stable 60 or 120 frames per second.
Refresh rates and HDMI bandwidth
The cited PX4-Pro gaming information lists refresh rates up to 240 Hz at 1080p and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. The 240 Hz figure applies to the 1080p mode; it does not mean the projector displays 4K at 240 Hz. Pixel-shift 4K is listed separately. Check the output options of your console or graphics card, because the source, cable, receiver and projector must all support the selected resolution and refresh combination.
HDMI 2.1 bandwidth can provide more headroom for high-refresh signals, but it does not guarantee low latency by itself. Input lag depends on the selected picture mode, resolution, refresh rate and any processing applied by the projector. RTINGS’ comparative result is the reason to favor the PX4 Pro for competitive play; use the projector’s game mode and verify the exact mode behavior in the current firmware.

Who should buy the PX4 Pro for gaming?
- Console owners planning to keep the projector for several years: VRR and newer HDMI capability reduce the chance that the display becomes the limiting component as consoles and games evolve.
- PC gamers: The 1080p/240 Hz option is relevant if your hardware can produce very high frame rates and you sit close enough to benefit from the smoother response.
- Competitive players: The PX4 Pro’s better input-lag result is more meaningful than its general smart-TV differences.
- Occasional, story-focused gamers: The PX3-Pro may be adequate if its price is much lower and you are satisfied with fixed-refresh play.
Smart-TV software: VIDAA versus Google TV
PX4 Pro: VIDAA
The PX4 Pro uses VIDAA. App catalogs, voice features, regional services and update timing can vary by country, so check the exact VIDAA store for your location before purchase. If a service you rely on is absent or behaves differently, you can connect an external streaming player through HDMI; budget for an available HDMI input and a suitable power connection.
PX3-Pro: Google TV
The PX3-Pro includes Google TV. Buyers already using Google accounts, Google Assistant, casting and the Google TV interface may find it more familiar. Google TV’s presence does not make every app or feature identical in every country, and app availability can still change, but it is a meaningful platform advantage if it matches your existing setup.
How to choose between the platforms
| Your situation | Better fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You want the built-in interface to match other Google TV devices | PX3-Pro | It includes Google TV instead of VIDAA |
| You are comfortable using an external streamer | Either | Platform differences matter less when streaming comes from a separate HDMI device |
| You want the newer gaming feature set in one box | PX4 Pro | VRR, high-refresh 1080p and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth are listed for it |
| Your must-have app is available only on one local platform | Verify before buying | Regional catalogs and firmware can differ |
Installation and screen planning
Measure before ordering
Both projectors are UST models, so use the current manual and screen documentation for exact throw-distance and image-size calculations. The cited material does not include a complete compatibility chart covering every screen, cabinet depth, image size and room condition. Before paying, confirm:
- The projector-to-screen distance for your desired diagonal size.
- Whether the screen is designed for UST projection and the projector’s light direction.
- Cabinet depth, ventilation clearance and the location of power and HDMI cables.
- Whether the furniture is rigid enough to prevent movement after alignment.
- Ambient-light conditions, especially daylight entering from the sides or above.
- That the screen remains flat; waves can make a UST image look uneven even when the projector is correctly aligned.
Screen size and the PX3-Pro’s 150-inch limit
Hisense lists a maximum 150-inch image for the PX3-Pro. Maximum size is not automatically the best size: a very large image spreads the available light over more area, and a bright room can wash out dark scenes. Choose the diagonal based on viewing distance, room light and the screen’s gain and viewing-angle behavior rather than selecting the largest number on the specification sheet.
Why a UST-compatible screen matters
A standard front-projection screen may not reject ceiling or side light in the way a UST screen does. A UST-compatible ambient-light-rejecting screen can improve perceived contrast in a bright room, but compatibility is model- and size-dependent. Confirm the screen’s geometry, gain, mounting method and supported UST angle with the screen manufacturer and the projector manual. Do not assume that any screen marketed as “ALR” will work equally well.

Price, availability and regional versions
Hisense announced US availability for the PX4 Pro on July 21, 2026 through its own shop, Amazon and Best Buy, with a $3,999.99 MSRP. That is the launch US MSRP, not a guarantee of today’s street price, stock status or pricing in another country. Sales, bundles, retailer warranties and regional taxes can change the amount you actually pay. The cited material does not establish a current PX3-Pro price, so compare live listings at the time you buy rather than assuming the older model is cheaper.
Regional versions can differ in tuners, smart-TV services, wireless features, warranty coverage and firmware. Match the model number on the listing with the support page for your country. If you import a projector, verify voltage, return shipping, warranty service and the availability of replacement remotes before ordering.

Choose the PX4 Pro when gaming is important
Select the PX4 Pro if you use a current console or gaming PC and want VRR, high-refresh 1080p and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. Its better input-lag result and improved rainbow-effect handling strengthen the case for fast games. The contrast advantage also helps if you play in a dim room and care about shadow detail and bright effects appearing together.
Choose the PX3-Pro when Google TV is central
The PX3-Pro is the more straightforward choice when Google TV is a deciding feature and you do not need VRR. It also remains sensible for film and television viewing when the local price difference is substantial and you are comfortable with its gaming limitations. Its 150-inch maximum image, 4K AI upscaling and Dolby Vision are stated by Hisense, but check the current regional specification for the exact implementation.

A practical buying checklist
- Define the source devices. List consoles, PCs, streaming boxes, receivers and disc players, then check their required resolutions, refresh rates, HDR formats and HDMI connections.
- Choose the platform. Confirm that the PX4 Pro’s VIDAA or the PX3-Pro’s Google TV provides the apps and casting features you actually use in your region.
- Measure the installation. Use the current projector manual to calculate throw distance, cabinet depth, ventilation and screen size.
- Validate the screen. Confirm UST compatibility, diagonal size, gain, viewing angle and ambient-light performance with the screen documentation.
- Plan the room. Darken windows where possible, control reflective surfaces and leave ventilation space around the projector.
- Check gaming requirements. If you need VRR or 240 Hz at 1080p, the cited comparison points to the PX4 Pro; confirm the exact signal combination your source outputs.
- Compare live prices. Treat $3,999.99 as the PX4 Pro’s US launch MSRP from July 21, 2026, not as a current universal price.
- Confirm support. Verify the local model number, firmware updates, return policy, warranty and replacement-remote availability.
Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
Taking “15% more brightness” as a laboratory result
Hisense’s 15% statement describes the PX4 Pro RGB module. It does not establish a measured 15% advantage in every picture mode, screen size or room. Use independent comparative findings and your own room conditions to judge the image.
Assuming HDMI 2.1 means every mode runs at maximum refresh
RTINGS lists up to 240 Hz at 1080p for the PX4 Pro. Resolution and refresh rate are linked; 4K pixel-shift operation is a separate mode. Check the projector’s input table and your source settings before buying cables or a receiver.
Ignoring UST alignment
Moving a UST projector by a small amount changes the image position and can make digital correction do more work. Install it on a rigid surface, align it physically first and use electronic correction sparingly so you do not sacrifice image area or sharpness.
Choosing the largest possible image in a bright room
A 150-inch image is the PX3-Pro’s stated maximum, not a promise of a punchy picture at that size in daylight. Match image size to available light and screen performance, then control the room before increasing the diagonal.
Bottom line
The PX4 Pro is the better fit for buyers who prioritize gaming responsiveness, VRR, high-refresh input and improved contrast and rainbow-effect handling. The PX3-Pro remains the logical alternative when Google TV matters more, the projector is meaningfully less expensive locally, or your use is primarily films and television without VRR gaming. Before choosing, verify the current regional price, firmware, throw-distance calculation and UST screen compatibility.
