The Hisense PX3-PRO is a compelling ultra-short-throw projector for a large living-room or home-theater image, especially if you want Google TV built in and plan to play games as well as watch films. Independent reviewers found it bright enough for a 100-inch image in a room with some ambient light, but it performs best in dimmer conditions. Its large, heavy chassis and less automated setup mean it is not simply a matter of placing it near a wall. The value also depends on the screen, room, local price and stock.
What the PX3-PRO offers
The PX3-PRO is a 4K UHD ultra-short-throw (UST) projector: it sits close to the projection surface rather than across the room or overhead. Hisense lists an 80- to 150-inch image range and a 0.22 throw ratio. The company says it can produce an image up to 150 inches from a few inches away, but the exact placement depends on the image size and installation.

Hisense rates the projector at 3,000 ANSI lumens, 3,000:1 native contrast and 110% BT.2020 color coverage. It lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG support, along with a 50W Harman Kardon audio system. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently established measurements in this review. See the Hisense PX3-PRO product page and Hisense US store listing for the manufacturer’s specifications.

How it performs for films and TV
RTINGS describes the PX3-PRO as a decent home-theater projector. Its review says dark scenes have depth, while bright scenes look flatter. That distinction matters: a high-contrast night scene may show the projector at its best, while bright material may not look as dimensional. RTINGS also reports smooth motion for most content, with an exception for 25p material played from some older streaming devices or cable boxes. Its full findings are at RTINGS’ Hisense PX3-PRO review.
RTINGS found it bright enough for a 100-inch screen in a living room with some ambient light, while still judging dim or dark conditions best. That makes the PX3-PRO more flexible than a projector that demands a fully dark room, but it is not a guarantee of a punchy picture in every bright room. Window light, lamps, screen choice and the content itself all affect the result.

What Hi-Fi?’s October 2024 review was more enthusiastic, describing the projector as strong for games and movies and an upgrade over earlier Hisense UST models in that review’s testing. That is the reviewer’s verdict, not a universal consensus or a claim of our own testing. Read the What Hi-Fi? review for its assessment.

Gaming: strong refresh-rate claims, but no VRR
Hisense announced Designed for Xbox Limited Series certification for the PX3-PRO in July 2024. RTINGS’ product information reports support for up to 240Hz at 1080p and 60Hz at 4K through the projector’s HDMI 2.1 connections. Those are different resolution-and-refresh combinations: check that the console or PC output you intend to use matches the mode you want, rather than assuming 4K runs at 240Hz. Hisense’s announcement is at its Xbox certification post.

RTINGS’ comparison notes that the newer PX4-PRO adds variable refresh rate (VRR), which the PX3-PRO lacks. If VRR is a priority for your gaming setup, that missing feature may matter more than the PX3-PRO’s high-refresh 1080p support. Do not treat certification or a maximum refresh-rate figure as a substitute for checking the precise input mode and features your console, PC and games support.
Placement, screen and setup
UST placement can avoid a ceiling mount and keep the projector near the screen, but it does not make positioning effortless. RTINGS characterizes the PX3-PRO as large and heavy, without a carrying handle, and says its setup is less flexible and not automated. Plan for a stable surface and careful alignment; moving the unit later can mean repeating that work.

A suitable screen is part of the installation decision. Hisense says image quality is superior with its separately sold ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) screen; the screen is not included in the cited store listing. Choose a screen size, surface and fit for the actual room and projector placement instead of assuming a bare wall or any screen will produce the same result. Hisense also says active 3D glasses are needed separately for 3D movies, but the reviewed product materials do not establish a compatible model. Confirm compatibility in the manual or with support before buying glasses.
Price and availability depend on market and date
There is no single price that can safely be treated as current everywhere. What Hi-Fi?’s October 2024 review listed £2,499, US$3,499 and AU$4,499. The Hisense US store page accessed for this review showed US$2,499.99 on sale against a US$3,499.99 regular price, while also marking the product sold out. ProjectorCentral showed a US street price of US$2,498 and an MSRP of US$3,499 on its accessed page. These are dated listings, not a promise of today’s price or availability; check local stock, warranty and bundle terms before purchase. Sources: What Hi-Fi?, Hisense US store and ProjectorCentral.
How it compares with the PX2-PRO, PX4-PRO and Epson LS800
RTINGS’ comparison lists the PX3-PRO at 3,000 lumens and 50W speaker power, versus 2,400 lumens and 30W for the PX2-PRO; it also notes the PX3-PRO adds HDR10+. These are the comparison page’s stated figures, not a guarantee that every viewing condition will make the PX3-PRO appear brighter or sound better. The same reviewer comparison says the PX4-PRO adds VRR and improves some performance areas, while the PX3-PRO may suit buyers who prefer its Google TV platform to the PX4-PRO’s VIDAA system.
For the Epson LS800, RTINGS says it is brighter and better suited to rooms without light control, while the Hisense offers better contrast and color volume. Those are RTINGS’ comparative judgments, not universal rankings; room conditions and priorities can change which difference matters. Check current local availability and prices for all models, and include the cost of an appropriate screen when comparing complete setups. See RTINGS’ review and comparison information.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the PX3-PRO?
- Consider it if you want a very large image from a near-screen placement, built-in Google TV, multiple HDR formats and gaming support, and can control the room light reasonably well.
- Look more closely at alternatives if your room is consistently bright, you need automated or especially flexible setup, or VRR is essential to your gaming experience.
- Price the whole installation before deciding: projector cost alone does not account for a screen suited to your room, and active 3D glasses are an extra purchase if you want 3D playback.
