For a 65-inch movie TV, the TCL QM7 (also sold as the QM751G) is a credible alternative to the Hisense E7—particularly for dark-room viewing in North America. Its independent review praises deep blacks, HDR brightness and color, and judder removal, but also flags HDR tracking and slow-pan stutter. First, check which Hisense E7 you mean: the US and UK product pages describe different televisions, including different refresh specifications.

Hisense E7 Cinema Series Alternatives: identify the exact model first

“Hisense E7” is not enough to establish a like-for-like comparison. Hisense USA describes its 65-inch model as the 65-inch E7 Series Hi-QLED MiniLED 4K Fire TV and advertises Mini-LED, Hi-QLED, Fire TV, and a native 144 Hz refresh rate. Those are manufacturer specifications and descriptions, not independent measurements.

Hisense UK’s 65E78QTUK is described as an E7Q with QLED, 4K, and 60 Hz; its page lists HDMI ports with VRR at 60 Hz. Those differences mean you should not apply US E7 specifications to a UK E7Q—or assume similarly named products are otherwise identical. Hisense notes that product descriptions, prices, dimensions, availability, and features may change.

  • Find the full model number, including its regional suffix, on the retailer listing or product label.
  • Open the manufacturer page for that exact model and country before comparing refresh rate, ports, smart-TV platform, or other specifications.
  • Compare locally available alternatives by movie performance, not just by headline feature counts.

Best 65-Inch TVs for Movies: the clearest alternative in the evidence

TCL QM7/QM751G: a strong dark-room candidate in North America

RTINGS describes the QM7 as a mid-range model in TCL’s 2024 North American lineup, available in 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, and 98-inch sizes. Its review is based on a 75-inch set; RTINGS says its results also apply to the 65-inch version. The reviewer says the QM7 is currently available only in North America and warns that similar regional models can perform differently. Do not assume it is equivalent to a European TCL C-series model. For movies in a dark room, RTINGS rates the QM7 very good. Deep blacks hold up beside bright highlights, while HDR brightness and color volume make highlights and colors vivid. It also removes judder from almost all sources. These traits make it a compelling candidate for films with letterboxing, night scenes, and HDR highlights.

There are meaningful caveats for film watching. RTINGS reports that HDR EOTF tracking does not follow creator intent well, slow pans can show visible stutter, and fast-paced scenes can show artifacts. SDR accuracy is less than ideal before calibration. The review also describes the QM7’s processing as decent, but that does not erase those tracking and accuracy limitations.

Choose by room and the kind of films you watch

Dark rooms: prioritize black level and contrast

Black bars and shadow detail make contrast especially noticeable in a dark room. The QM7 review reports strong black levels, which is a concrete reason to consider it for evening viewing. OLED is a different display technology with the potential for perfect blacks, but the evidence here does not establish a specific OLED model as the best E7 substitute.

HDR films: balance vividness with accuracy

Brightness and color volume affect how forceful HDR highlights and saturated colors look; accuracy concerns whether the image follows the creator’s intended brightness curve. The QM7 review praises the first two qualities but flags its HDR tracking. A punchy image is not automatically a more faithful one.

  • High Dynamic Range (HDR) with Dolby Vision: Enjoy enhanced contrast, accurate colors and fine details utilizing all the most advanced HDR formats.
  • Dolby Atmos Audio: Advanced spatial audio processing can be found in movies, TV shows, and video games.

Bright rooms: account for reflections separately

A bright panel can help an image remain visible in a lit room, but screen reflections are a separate issue. RTINGS says the QM7’s direct-reflection handling is disappointing, even though its image color and contrast hold up fairly well in bright environments. If a window or lamp faces the screen, check how the exact model handles reflections rather than relying on brightness alone.

Motion: don’t use refresh rate as a shortcut

Film motion depends on more than a headline refresh-rate specification. Look for evidence about judder removal, stutter on slow camera pans, and artifacts in fast scenes. The QM7 review reports judder removal from almost all sources, but also notes visible slow-pan stutter and artifacts in fast-paced scenes. Those observations are more useful for film viewing than assuming a high refresh number guarantees smooth motion.

Check sound, apps, and local value before buying

Plan for audio separately

What Hi-Fi advises budgeting for a separate sound system: even good television speakers generally compare poorly with a dedicated system. If cinematic audio matters to you, include the cost and space for audio equipment in your decision rather than judging the TV on picture alone. What Hi-Fi’s 2026 65-inch TV guide also covers technology, audio, and viewing-distance considerations.

Verify the regional smart-TV platform

Check the precise local model’s operating system and whether it carries the streaming apps you use. Platform and app availability can differ by region, just as product specifications and naming do.

Compare current local prices, not assumed value

The available evidence does not support a comprehensive current price ranking or a like-for-like head-to-head verdict between a particular E7 and QM7. Check retailer listings for the exact 65-inch regional models, their suffixes, and current prices before deciding which offers better value. A general TechRadar 65-inch TV buying guide, updated 13 August 2026, offers market context, but it is not a complete E7-versus-QM7 test.
