The decisive differences are the exact model year and size, the accessories included, the art and sensing features, and the live price.

What you are actually comparing
“Hisense CanvasTV” covers an original 2024 line and larger sizes announced in 2025. “TCL NXTFRAME” refers primarily to TCL’s 2024 North American launch material. TCL’s current US product page uses the Designer Series Picture Frame TV and NXTVISION branding; model 55A300L is identified as the 2026 version. A retailer listing that says NXTFRAME may therefore describe an earlier generation, while a current listing may use Designer Series instead.

Picture and gaming: similar headline specifications, no proven winner
The shared foundation is a 4K QLED panel intended to remain usable as a television while presenting art in standby or Art Mode. The following are manufacturer-stated specifications, not laboratory measurements of brightness, contrast, color accuracy or reflection handling.
| Model or generation | Resolution and panel description | Screen treatment | Refresh and gaming features | Other stated picture features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hisense CanvasTV, 2024 launch | 4K QLED | Hi-Matte anti-glare | 144 Hz; ALLM; VRR; MEMC | Manufacturer launch material identifies the display as an art-oriented television. |
| TCL NXTFRAME, 2024 launch | QLED PRO | Matte treatment described in the launch positioning | 120/144 Hz VRR; Game Accelerator 240 | Dolby Vision IQ |
| TCL Designer Series, 2026 US model 55A300L | 4K QLED | Ultra-matte screen | 144 Hz native; VRR; Game Accelerator 288 | Current US product page identifies Google TV features alongside the display specifications. |
Hisense’s launch specifications are documented in its CanvasTV introduction. TCL’s earlier NXTFRAME claims appear in its August 2024 announcement, while the current 55A300L specifications are on the 2026 Designer Series page.
What the refresh numbers mean
A 144 Hz specification can allow smoother motion and lower display latency when the source and game console or PC support the required signal. VRR synchronizes the panel’s refresh with a compatible game source, and ALLM can switch a television into a lower-latency mode. MEMC is motion estimation and motion compensation processing; it is different from the panel’s native refresh rate. TCL’s Game Accelerator figures are vendor feature labels and should not be treated as a controlled comparison with Hisense’s 144 Hz claim.
The 2025 Hisense expansion announcement discusses larger CanvasTV sizes but does not restate the 144 Hz, ALLM, VRR and MEMC specifications for every new size. Verify the specification sheet for the exact size you intend to buy. Similarly, do not assume that a retailer’s NXTFRAME description has the same feature set as the current 2026 Designer Series model.
Matte screens in a real room
Hi-Matte, matte and ultra-matte are names for anti-reflective surface treatments, not a guarantee that reflections disappear. Window position, lamps, wall color and viewing angle still affect what you see. A matte surface can make framed artwork easier to live with in a bright room, but it can also change the appearance of highlights and fine image texture compared with a glossy television. No independently measured head-to-head reflection or picture-quality result is established for these two lines, so view the screen in lighting similar to your own when possible.

Frame, depth and mounting differences
Hisense CanvasTV contents
The original CanvasTV announcement describes a teak magnetic frame included with the television and an UltraSlim wall mount included in the package. White and walnut frame colors are described as optional purchases. Because the frame attaches magnetically, check that an optional frame is made for your exact screen size and generation before ordering; compatibility and inventory can change.
TCL NXTFRAME and Designer Series contents
TCL’s NXTFRAME launch material describes a light-wood magnetic frame and a flush mount included with the television. TCL’s support information lists the integrated chassis at 1.1 inches deep, with the 85-inch version at 1.2 inches. Those dimensions describe the television chassis, not the total clearance created by your wall, mount hardware, cables or an electrical outlet.
Recommended Free Tools
TCL lists a movable easel-style floor stand and adjustable-height table stands as separately sold options. The cited Hisense pages emphasize wall mounting rather than an included freestanding stand. If the television will sit on furniture or stand in a room rather than hang on a wall, include the cost, footprint and cable routing of the required stand in your comparison.
Installation checks before opening the box
- Confirm the size and model number. Match the label on the retailer listing to the manufacturer support page. “NXTFRAME,” “Designer Series” and “NXTVISION” can refer to different years.
- Measure the wall and viewing position. Account for the television’s width, the frame’s outer dimensions, seating height and the location of studs or suitable anchors.
- Plan cable access. A flush or UltraSlim mount leaves little room for sharply bent HDMI cables. Locate power and source cables before fixing the mount.
- Inventory the box. Look for the magnetic frame and wall-mount hardware promised for your exact model. Do not assume a stand is included with TCL.
- Install with two people or a qualified installer. Large 75- and 85-inch panels are heavy and can be damaged by twisting during mounting.
Art mode, sensors and personalization
Hisense CanvasTV
Hisense describes an Art Mode with curated free artwork, personal-photo display and optional mats around an image. Its original announcement also describes a light sensor that adapts Art Mode brightness and a motion sensor that turns the display off when the room is empty. Sensor behavior can depend on the exact model and firmware, so test the settings after installation rather than assuming every CanvasTV has identical controls.
The light-sensing behavior matters if the television hangs in a bedroom, hallway or living room with changing daylight. A display that looks appropriately subdued at night may appear different during the day, and a motion-based shutoff can prevent the screen from remaining on in an empty room. These are room-behavior features, not evidence of superior television picture quality.

TCL NXTFRAME and Designer Series
TCL describes a curated art library, AI-generated art, adjustable matte options and a gallery for personal photos. “Adjustable matte” refers to the art-display presentation controls described by TCL; it should not be confused with a laboratory measurement of the panel’s anti-reflection performance.
TCL also identifies an NXTFRAME Pro configuration with a Bang & Olufsen-tuned wireless soundbar and subwoofer. Treat Pro and non-Pro versions as separate products: verify the model number and the audio equipment included in the box before using a Pro feature or price in a comparison.
Questions to ask about artwork
- Is the artwork library available in your country and on your exact model?
- Can you upload personal photos from the television, a phone app or a USB device?
- Are mats, frames and brightness controls available in both Art Mode and personal-photo mode?
- Does the display remain on continuously, or can a timer, light sensor or motion sensor turn it off?
- Will a firmware update change the gallery, sensing or account requirements?
Smart-TV platforms and connectivity
The initial Hisense CanvasTV material names Google TV and Google Cast. Hisense’s 2025 larger-size announcement additionally mentions HDMI eARC, Wi-Fi 6E, Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit. Those capabilities should be checked against the exact model’s manual because the announcements cover different points in the product line’s rollout.
TCL’s current US Designer Series listing states Google TV, AirPlay 2, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit. The 2024 NXTFRAME announcement describes the earlier generation, so a listing that uses the NXTFRAME name should be checked separately rather than assumed to have every feature on the 2026 page.
For a soundbar or receiver, verify HDMI eARC support on the specific television and confirm that the cable route remains accessible after the flush or UltraSlim mount is installed. For Apple devices, look for AirPlay 2 or HomeKit on the model page; for Google devices, confirm Google Cast or Google TV support. Voice-assistant compatibility may require account linking and network access.

Price: historical launch figures versus today’s listing
The available prices are not a same-day, same-size comparison. Hisense’s 65-inch CanvasTV launched at an announced $1,299.99 in 2024. Hisense later announced US MSRPs of $2,499.99 for 75 inches and $3,999.99 for 85 inches in 2025. TCL announced the following NXTFRAME launch MSRPs in 2024. TCL’s current US page displayed $799.99 for model 55A300L when checked on October 13, 2026. That is a changeable direct-site price, not a guaranteed retailer or transaction price.
| Brand and model context | Screen size | Price | Price type and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hisense CanvasTV | 65 inches | $1,299.99 | Announced launch price, 2024 |
| Hisense CanvasTV | 75 inches | $2,499.99 | Announced US MSRP, 2025 |
| Hisense CanvasTV | 85 inches | $3,999.99 | Announced US MSRP, 2025 |
| TCL NXTFRAME | 55 inches | $1,499.99 | Announced launch MSRP, 2024 |
| TCL NXTFRAME | 65 inches | $1,999.99 | Announced launch MSRP, 2024 |
| TCL NXTFRAME | 75 inches | $2,499.99 | Announced launch MSRP, 2024 |
| TCL NXTFRAME | 85 inches | $3,999.99 | Announced launch MSRP, 2024 |
| TCL Designer Series 55A300L, 2026 US page | 55 inches | $799.99 | Direct-site listing checked October 13, 2026; price can change |
These figures show why a simple “which is cheaper?” answer is unreliable. The TCL $799.99 listing is for a current 55-inch model, while the TCL $1,499.99 figure is a 2024 launch MSRP for the NXTFRAME 55-inch product. Hisense’s $1,299.99 figure is for a 2024 65-inch launch, and its later 75- and 85-inch numbers are announced MSRPs. Compare the same diagonal size, generation and package contents, then check the live price at the retailer you will actually use.
How to choose between them
Choose CanvasTV when its package fits your wall and room
- You want the teak magnetic frame and UltraSlim wall mount included with the cited CanvasTV package.
- Light- and motion-sensing behavior in Art Mode is important, and your exact model documentation confirms those sensors.
- You prefer the Google TV and Google Cast setup described for the original CanvasTV and have confirmed newer connectivity requirements for your model.
- An optional white or walnut frame matches your room and is available for your size.
Choose TCL’s NXTFRAME or Designer Series when its current model and accessories fit better
- You want the light-wood magnetic frame and flush mount described by TCL.
- You need a separately sold easel-style floor stand or adjustable-height table stand for a freestanding installation.
- The current model’s 144 Hz native refresh, VRR and Game Accelerator 288 specifications match your gaming setup.
- AirPlay 2, Google TV, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit are priorities and are listed for the exact model.
- You are considering an NXTFRAME Pro package and specifically want its included wireless audio equipment.
When neither specification sheet settles the decision
If both televisions are the same size and similarly priced, make the decision on installation and daily use: which frame color works in the room, whether the included mount suits your wall, whether you need a stand, how the matte surface looks beside your windows, and whether your preferred art or photo workflow is supported. A television can have an impressive refresh specification and still be the wrong choice if its included accessories do not fit the room.
A practical buying checklist
- Write down the exact model. Include the screen size, suffix and year. Keep a screenshot of the manufacturer page that lists the specifications.
- Match the comparison size. Compare 55 with 55, 65 with 65, and so on. Do not use an 85-inch MSRP to judge a 65-inch value.
- Separate launch MSRP from live price. Label old announced prices as historical and check the current retailer or direct listing immediately before purchase.
- List included accessories. CanvasTV’s cited package includes its teak frame and UltraSlim mount; TCL’s cited package includes a light-wood frame and flush mount. TCL’s floor and table stands are optional.
- Check the wall. Confirm stud or anchor locations, outlet placement, cable bend radius and the load rating of the installation hardware.
- Check gaming inputs. Match your console or PC’s output, VRR requirements and desired refresh rate to the exact model’s manual.
- Check smart-home compatibility. Confirm Google Cast, AirPlay 2, Alexa, Google Assistant or HomeKit support for the model and region you are buying.
- Test the art experience. After setup, try a personal photo, a curated work, brightness controls and any available sensor or timer. Make sure the screen behaves as expected when the room is empty and when daylight changes.
Common comparison mistakes
- Treating NXTFRAME and Designer Series as one unchanged product. TCL’s naming and model-year materials differ, so retain the model number throughout your search.
- Calling a television cheaper from an old MSRP. Launch prices are historical context; they do not describe today’s inventory or sale price.
- Reading refresh numbers as picture-quality proof. Refresh rate, VRR and gaming modes describe supported operation, not measured black level, color accuracy or HDR performance.
- Assuming every size has identical specifications. Hisense’s later large-size announcement does not restate every original feature for every size, and TCL’s 85-inch chassis depth differs from the other sizes.
- Forgetting the stand. TCL’s movable floor and table stands are separate options. A wall-mounted price and a freestanding installation budget are not the same.
- Assuming matte means reflection-free. Room lighting and viewing angle remain decisive, so inspect the screen under your own lights if possible.
- Ordering an optional frame without checking fit. Magnetic frames are size- and generation-dependent; verify compatibility before buying a different color.
Bottom line
CanvasTV and NXTFRAME/Designer Series pursue the same idea: a framed 4K QLED television that can display art when it is not showing video. Hisense’s cited package emphasizes a teak frame, UltraSlim mount and sensor-assisted Art Mode. TCL’s cited package emphasizes a light-wood frame, flush mounting, optional freestanding stands and, in the current Designer Series generation, 144 Hz native refresh with newer gaming branding. Neither manufacturer specification set proves a superior picture.
