The Hisense 75U8QAU is a 2025 Australian-market 75-inch Mini-LED TV with a 4K panel, a manufacturer-listed native 165Hz refresh rate and a substantial built-in 4.1.2-channel sound system. Its appeal is strongest if you want a bright, large-screen TV and use a compatible gaming PC; the 165Hz claim does not mean every console or source can run at that rate. Reviews praise its picture and sound, but the right choice depends on your tolerance for vivid colour, your need for HDMI inputs and the current price of the exact Australian SKU.
What the 75U8QAU is—and what it is not
This review is about the Australian 75U8QAU, not every television carrying a similar U8 name. Hisense Australia identifies it as a 75-inch ULED MiniLED 4K QLED smart TV. The company’s 2025 specification sheet lists a 3840 × 2160 resolution and 165Hz native refresh rate. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of picture quality or gaming performance.

Do not assume the Australian model is interchangeable with the U8QG sold in the US or Europe. I’mTech specifically warns that the U8QAU is unique to Australia and notes that panel type can differ by screen size; its comparison reports IPS-ADS for the 75-inch model. Its numerical comparison is based on the 65-inch size, and some panel and brightness figures were taken from specifications rather than measured. It therefore does not establish the 75-inch set’s tested peak brightness or dimming-zone count. I’mTech’s Australian U8QAU review provides useful context, but not a substitute for confirmed 75-inch lab results.

Reviewers describe the U8QAU’s image as bright and impressive. EFTM also cautions that its bright colour presentation can overpower blacks depending on settings. That is a subjective viewing observation, not proof that every scene or picture mode will look the same in every room. If you watch a lot of dark films, plan to compare picture modes and adjust colour and backlight settings to suit your taste rather than treating maximum vividness as the default ideal. EFTM’s review discusses its image and sound impressions.

Mini-LED is the product category Hisense specifies; published reviews do not establish a measured 75-inch peak-brightness result, blooming level or black-level performance. Treat claims derived from another screen size or a panel specification as context, not as a verified result for this 75-inch television.
Gaming: 165Hz is a PC-dependent capability
Hisense lists 165Hz native refresh and FreeSync Premium Pro, but the product page qualifies the top refresh rate: “165Hz requires compatible content connection from compatible PCs with HDMI or DP input.” In practice, the rate you get depends on the source, connection, content and settings. A 165Hz label alone does not promise 165Hz gaming from a console or every HDMI-connected device. Check the capabilities of your specific PC or console and the TV’s current manual before buying around a particular feature.
The specification sheet lists HDMI 2.1 and three HDMI inputs. The available documentation does not map every gaming or eARC feature to a specific port, so consult the current manual for port-by-port support before planning a console, PC, receiver or soundbar setup. DMARGE reports trying a gaming laptop over USB-C in its hands-on coverage, but that is one publication’s experience, not a controlled compatibility test. DMARGE’s 75-inch hands-on review describes that experience.

- HI - QLED MINILED: Striking contrast and vivid, lifelike color put every scene in a new light. Whether it's a sunny landscape or a candlelit drama, the picture leaps off the screen. Mini-LED backlighting uses hundreds of precise light zones to enhance contrast across the screen. Paired with Hi-QLED technology, every color comes through with stunning depth and accuracy
- NATIVE 144HZ REFRESH RATE: Fast breaks, high-speed chases, live finales — every frame stays crisp and fluid, so the action is always exactly where you need it to be. Native 144Hz refresh performance keeps movement fast and sharp, reducing blur during gameplay and live sports. The quick response helps you stay in control during competitive gaming while making rapid camera shots in shows and movies easier to follow
- BUILT-IN SUBWOOFER: Immersive deep bass from the built-in subwoofer pulls you into the heart of the moment, from the rumble of an explosion to the thump of your favorite song. Feel like you’re a part of the action
- ANTI-REFLECTION & GLARE-FREE: Bright rooms are no match for this screen. The anti-reflection and glare-free display keeps your view clean and distraction-free, so you stay focused on what matters — the show
- UNIBODY SLIM DESIGN: Edge-to-edge display and a seamless design that disappears into your room — so all you see is the picture
Built-in sound is a notable part of the package
The official specification lists six speaker drivers plus a subwoofer: 2 × 15W main speakers, 2 × 10W side speakers, 2 × 10W upper speakers and a 20W subwoofer, described as a 4.1.2 configuration. That makes built-in audio a meaningful differentiator rather than an afterthought. EFTM praised the sound, and DMARGE tried the TV with a Hisense soundbar using Hi-Concerto; neither account is a controlled audio comparison.
You may not need to add a soundbar immediately if the built-in system meets your needs. Consider an external system if you want a different sound presentation, a separate listening setup or a compatible soundbar integration; confirm the soundbar model and connection requirements before purchase.
Smart TV features and connections
Hisense’s specification sheet lists VIDAA U9, Freeview Plus, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. These are the listed platform and format features; they do not establish that every streaming app or service you use is available. Check the VIDAA app catalogue for your essential services before buying, and avoid assuming a particular update schedule where none is specified.

There are three HDMI inputs according to the official specifications. If you expect to leave several consoles, a PC, a receiver and other devices connected, count the connections you actually need and check which ports support the specific features in your setup. EFTM suggested the less expensive U7QAU may appeal to some buyers in part because of its HDMI-port advantage at the time of its review; that is a useful comparison point, not a current price or stock guarantee.

For the 75-inch model, Hisense lists dimensions of 1670 × 963 × 46 mm and weight of 34.5 kg without the stand. With the stand, the dimensions are 1670 × 1035 × 340 mm and weight is 40.5 kg. These figures are useful for checking furniture, wall space and handling plans, but do not replace checking the current manual for mounting and stand requirements.
- Measure the available width and depth, including clearance for cables and any sound equipment.
- Check the full delivery route—doorways, stairs and turns—not just the final location.
- For wall mounting, verify the required mount and installation details in the current manual and make sure the wall and installer can support the set.
- For a stand, confirm the furniture can safely bear the TV’s weight and accommodate its footprint.
U8QAU versus U7QAU and OLED alternatives
The best comparison is not simply “Mini-LED versus OLED”; it is whether the U8QAU’s particular mix of screen size, audio, connections and price suits your room and sources. Review evidence supports a real U7QAU comparison: EFTM points to the U7’s price and HDMI count as potential advantages, while the U8’s sound system is a distinguishing feature. Current prices and stock vary, so compare the exact Australian models at the time you shop.

When comparing an OLED alternative, focus on your viewing conditions and priorities rather than assuming a general winner. Check how each exact model handles bright-room viewing, dark scenes, gaming connections, built-in sound, app availability and installation. The available reviews do not provide a controlled head-to-head result for the 75U8QAU against a particular OLED model.
