An Australian review praised its brightness, audio and value but noted muted colours, motion-setting issues and limitations with VIDAA. It has four HDMI inputs, but only two are HDMI 2.1. The model is now listed as unavailable by The Good Guys and discontinued by CHOICE, so check exact-model stock and price before considering a purchase.
What the Hisense 65U8NAU is
The 65U8NAU is the Australian 65-inch model in Hisense’s 2024 U8NAU series. Hisense specifies a 3840 × 2160 resolution and Mini-LED display. Its model-specific Australian specifications are the right reference for this TV; the international U8N name does not guarantee identical hardware or performance.

Hisense lists quantum-dot technology, a 144 Hz native refresh rate, FreeSync Premium Pro and MEMC. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Hisense also lists brightness as 700 nits with a claimed 2800-nit peak; the peak figure should not be read as an independently verified result or as a guarantee of sustained brightness in every scene.
What Australian reviewers said
GadgetGuy awarded the U8NAU 8/10 in its 2024 Australian review. It identified brightness, audio and value as strengths, while noting muted colours, motion settings and VIDAA as drawbacks. Those are the reviewer’s editorial findings, not laboratory measurements or a substitute for testing the specific TV in your room.
#1 Best Overall
- HI - QLED MINILED: Striking contrast and vivid, lifelike color put every scene in a new light. Whether it's a sunny landscape or a candlelit drama, the picture leaps off the screen. Mini-LED backlighting uses hundreds of precise light zones to enhance contrast across the screen. Paired with Hi-QLED technology, every color comes through with stunning depth and accuracy
- NATIVE 144HZ REFRESH RATE: Fast breaks, high-speed chases, live finales — every frame stays crisp and fluid, so the action is always exactly where you need it to be. Native 144Hz refresh performance keeps movement fast and sharp, reducing blur during gameplay and live sports. The quick response helps you stay in control during competitive gaming while making rapid camera shots in shows and movies easier to follow
- BUILT-IN SUBWOOFER: Immersive deep bass from the built-in subwoofer pulls you into the heart of the moment, from the rumble of an explosion to the thump of your favorite song. Feel like you’re a part of the action
- ANTI-REFLECTION & GLARE-FREE: Bright rooms are no match for this screen. The anti-reflection and glare-free display keeps your view clean and distraction-free, so you stay focused on what matters — the show
- UNIBODY SLIM DESIGN: Edge-to-edge display and a seamless design that disappears into your room — so all you see is the picture
The operating system identified on Hisense’s model-specific sheet is VIDAA U7. CHOICE’s product listing labels the operating system “Android (Hisense),” which conflicts with the manufacturer’s specification. Because aggregator metadata can be inconsistent, use VIDAA U7 as the model-specific identification and check that the apps you need are available on the actual set.
Is the Australian 65U8NAU the same as the American U8N?
No—not necessarily. Regional variants sold under similar U8N names can differ in panels, operating systems and electronics, so testing of an American U8N should not be presented as testing of the Australian 65U8NAU. RTINGS also cautions that its results for similarly named international models do not apply to the Australian set.
Size is another reason to check the exact model. I’mTech’s Australian review is useful for regional context, but its hands-on television was the 75-inch version. The reviewer says the 75-inch uses an ADS Pro panel, while the 65-inch and 85-inch variants use VA panels, and recommends comparing sizes side by side. That review is not a direct hands-on test of the 65-inch TV.

- HI-QLED MINILED: Mini-LED backlighting uses thousands of precise light zones to enhance contrast across the screen, revealing deeper shadows, brighter highlights, and more visible detail. Whether watching movies at night or sports during the day, the picture stays clear and impactful
- NATIVE 144HZ GAME MODE: High refresh performance keeps fast movement fluid and sharp, reducing blur during gameplay and live sports. The quick response helps you stay in control during competitive gaming while making rapid camera shots in shows and movies easier to follow

Ports, gaming and audio
The set has four HDMI inputs, but their capabilities are not uniform. Hisense specifies HDMI 2.0 on inputs 1 and 2, and HDMI 2.1 on inputs 3 and 4. Input 3 also carries eARC. All four inputs are listed with VRR and ALLM; ports 1 and 2 are HDMI 2.0 despite those gaming features. If you need two HDMI 2.1 devices plus an eARC soundbar, plan the connections around the two HDMI 2.1 inputs and eARC on port 3.
| Input | HDMI version | Features listed by Hisense |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | HDMI 2.0 | VRR and ALLM |
| 2 | HDMI 2.0 | VRR and ALLM |
| 3 | HDMI 2.1 | eARC, VRR and ALLM |
| 4 | HDMI 2.1 | VRR and ALLM |
Hisense lists Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.0. The audio specification names Dolby Atmos and drivers rated 2 × 10 W + 20 W + 2 × 5 W. Those figures describe the listed hardware; they do not establish measured loudness, clarity or bass performance.
HDR formats and picture considerations
The official specification lists Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR10. These format labels indicate support, not a guarantee that every streaming app or input will provide content in each format. The most useful evidence on real-world picture performance here remains the Australian reviewer’s qualitative comments; the brightness numbers are Hisense claims rather than independent test results.

For a comparison with another 65-inch TV, focus on measured brightness and reflections, local dimming in dark scenes, viewing angles and panel type, supported HDR formats, HDMI 2.1 port count and eARC location, gaming refresh and VRR support, smart-TV apps, warranty, and current price and stock. Compare Australian SKUs with Australian SKUs.

The Good Guys currently marks the exact 65U8NAU as no longer available, and CHOICE lists it as discontinued. These listings do not prove that every Australian seller or the second-hand market has no stock; check the precise SKU, condition and seller before buying. I’mTech listed an Australian 65-inch RRP of AU$2699 in September 2024. That is launch-era context, not a current price or evidence of today’s value.
The Good Guys listing gives a 600 × 400 mm VESA pattern, a weight of 25.5 kg without the stand and a three-year manufacturer warranty. If wall-mounting, confirm the mount supports the TV’s weight and VESA pattern and is compatible with the installation surface. The warranty listing is a product-page specification; confirm coverage and terms with the seller for the unit being offered.
