Hisense 65U6QAU PRO Review: Specs, Gaming, Apps and Buying Advice

The Hisense 65U6QAU PRO is a 2025 Australian 65-inch 4K Mini-LED/QLED television with a 144Hz native refresh rate, Dolby Vision support and HDMI 2.1 on two of its four inputs. Its specification looks promising for mixed streaming and gaming, but brightness alone does not prove strong HDR performance, VIDAA app availability varies, and an independent review reports that its built-in sound is a weak point. Whether it is worth buying depends on its current price, the apps you need and how much you value gaming features.

What model is this review about?

This is the Australian 2025 Hisense 65U6QAU PRO: a 65-inch, 3840 × 2160 Mini-LED/QLED television running VIDAA U8.5. It is not the less expensive Q6QAU, nor should it be confused with similarly named U6 televisions sold in the United States or other regions. Hisense’s Australian product page and 2025 specification sheet are the relevant sources for the Australian model.

This is a specification-led buying assessment, not a firsthand test. Manufacturer specifications are distinguished below from observations by Ray Shaw of I’mTech, who reviewed the Australian 65-inch model on August 1, 2025.

Is the Hisense 65U6QAU PRO worth buying?

It is worth considering if you want a large Mini-LED television with a high native refresh rate and are shopping at a price that reflects its entry-level position in Hisense’s Mini-LED range. The feature list supports everyday 4K viewing and gaming, but the available evidence does not establish how its picture compares with alternatives in measured HDR performance, motion, blooming or input lag.

Hisense lists an RRP of $1,399 on its Australian product page as accessed in 2026. That is a manufacturer-listed RRP, not a guaranteed current retail price; stock and street pricing can change. CHOICE’s public listing marks it “Discontinued model,” so check Australian retailers for current availability. CHOICE’s detailed scores and recommendations are member-only; its public page does not establish a verdict on picture, audio or reliability.

Picture quality: what the specifications and review indicate

Mini-LED, resolution and HDR formats

Hisense specifies a 4K resolution of 3840 × 2160, Mini-LED backlighting, quantum-dot colour and a 900-nit peak brightness. Its listed HDR formats are HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision; the product page also names Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive. These formats expand the kinds of HDR content the set can handle, but the 900-nit peak figure by itself does not tell you how consistently the screen sustains brightness or how well it controls highlights, dark scenes, blooming or tone mapping.

In his August 2025 review, I’mTech’s Ray Shaw describes the set as an entry-level Mini-LED suited to ordinary SDR streaming and occasional HDR viewing. Shaw reports 300 dimming zones and 450/900 typical/peak nits; those are reviewer-reported figures, not values in Hisense’s specification sheet. He also notes weaker out-of-box calibration. These observations are useful context, but they are not a substitute for comparable measurements across competing televisions.

Gaming: 144Hz, VRR and HDMI ports

Hisense specifies a 144Hz native refresh rate and 144Hz Game Mode Pro. The connection layout matters if you plan to attach several high-bandwidth devices: the television has four HDMI inputs, but only HDMI 3 and HDMI 4 are specified as HDMI 2.1.

Input Specified HDMI version Listed features
HDMI 1 HDMI 2.0 VRR and ALLM
HDMI 2 HDMI 2.0 VRR and ALLM
HDMI 3 HDMI 2.1 eARC, VRR and ALLM
HDMI 4 HDMI 2.1 VRR and ALLM

Those are manufacturer-listed capabilities. The specification sheet does not provide an input-lag result or a VRR operating range, so it cannot establish how responsive the set feels in a particular game or at every refresh rate. If you need both eARC audio and HDMI 2.1 connections, note that eARC is assigned to HDMI 3; plan which devices use HDMI 3 and 4 before installation.

VIDAA apps and smart-TV features

The television runs VIDAA U8.5 and includes Freeview Plus, according to Hisense’s specification sheet. The product page lists popular streaming services but warns that application availability may vary. Confirm that the apps you rely on are available for your region and remain supported before choosing the TV. If a required app is missing, an external streaming device is an option, but check the TV’s app catalogue first.

Sound: is a soundbar necessary?

The specification lists Dolby Atmos support and audio output of 2 × 10 W + 20 W, and the product page mentions a built-in subwoofer. These features do not guarantee a particular sound quality. In his review, I’mTech’s Ray Shaw says built-in TV sound is not a strong point. A soundbar is therefore an optional upgrade to consider if clearer dialogue, stronger impact or a more substantial movie soundstage matters to you; no specific soundbar has been tested here.

For a soundbar connected by HDMI, the specification identifies HDMI 3 as the eARC input. Check that your chosen soundbar supports the connection and formats you want.

Ports, wireless connections and wall mounting

Beyond its four HDMI inputs, the specification lists USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and a headphone output. For wall mounting, Hisense specifies a 400 × 400 mm VESA pattern. The set’s stated weight with its stand is 20.6 kg; select a compatible mount and make sure the wall and installation can safely support the television. The source does not state the set’s weight without its stand.

Warranty and availability

Hisense Australia lists a three-year warranty on the product page accessed in 2026. Confirm the applicable warranty terms with Hisense or the retailer for the unit and purchase you are considering. CHOICE’s public listing currently labels the model discontinued, but that label does not establish whether any particular retailer still has stock.

What to check before buying

  • Verify the listing is for the Australian 65U6QAU PRO, not a similarly named U6 model or the Q6QAU.
  • Compare the current Australian street price rather than treating the listed $1,399 RRP as a live offer.
  • Check that VIDAA supports the streaming apps you use in your region.
  • Plan connections around the two specified HDMI 2.1 inputs; HDMI 3 is also the eARC port.
  • For gaming comparisons, look for independent figures for input lag and VRR range in addition to refresh rate.
  • If wall mounting, use the 400 × 400 mm VESA specification and choose a mount suited to the installation and TV weight.
  • Consider whether the built-in audio meets your needs before deciding whether to add a soundbar.

For context on the reviewer’s observations, see Ray Shaw’s I’mTech review. Its mentions of other models or possible competitors are not a tested head-to-head comparison of this television against them.
