The Australian-market Hisense 55U7QAU is a 55-inch 4K Mini-LED/QLED television with a manufacturer-rated 165 Hz native refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 and VRR. Its published specifications make it a plausible option for gaming and sport, but those features are not a substitute for independent measurements: the evidence available for this exact model does not establish its real-world HDR brightness, blooming, input lag or picture quality. Hisense listed an AUD 1,299 RRP and out-of-stock status on its Australian product page when accessed on 7 October 2026, so check current retailer pricing and availability before deciding.
Which Hisense model is this review about?
This review covers the Australian-market 55U7QAU, part of Hisense’s U7QAU family and identified by Hisense as a 2025 model. It is not a review of the U7Q, U7Q Pro, U7QG or another international version. Model suffixes matter: specifications and test results for those televisions should not be assumed to apply to the 55U7QAU.

Hisense describes it as a ULED Mini-LED/QLED television. The official product listing and specification document provide the feature and hardware claims below; they do not amount to independent picture-quality testing. Hisense Australia’s 55U7QAU listing and its 2025 specification PDF are the references for the model-specific details.
What are the picture and HDR specifications?
The set has a 55-inch LED display with 3840 × 2160 resolution. Hisense specifies a 165 Hz native refresh rate and a 240 motion-rate figure, as well as 8-bit plus FRC panel depth. The motion-rate number is a manufacturer specification; it should not be read as a separately measured frame rate or proof of a particular motion performance.

Hisense lists peak brightness at 2000 nits. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured result for this review. There is no verified measurement here to show how bright HDR highlights get in real scenes, how consistently the screen sustains brightness, or how well local dimming controls blooming around bright objects. The listed formats are Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR10. Format support alone cannot establish HDR picture quality.
Is it good for gaming?
The 165 Hz panel specification, Game Mode Ultra, HDMI 2.1 and VRR make the 55U7QAU relevant to high-refresh-rate gaming setups. Hisense lists four HDMI inputs and identifies HDMI 3 as the ARC connection. Actual refresh and variable-refresh performance depend on the input resolution, source device, cable, settings and game content. A 165 Hz panel does not mean a console game will run at 165 frames per second.

No independently verified input-lag, response-time or tested gaming-performance measurement for this exact unit is established here. If those figures are decisive, look for a test that clearly identifies the 55U7QAU and reports the measurement conditions, rather than inferring performance from HDMI or refresh-rate labels.

How much does it cost, and is it good value?
Hisense’s Australian product page showed an AUD 1,299 RRP and out-of-stock status when accessed on 7 October 2026. An RRP is not a current retailer offer, and the manufacturer’s stock status may differ from retailer availability. Check the seller’s live price and stock before comparing it with alternatives. Appliances Online also has an Australian listing for this exact model: Hisense 55U7QAU at Appliances Online.
Whether it is good value depends on the price you can actually buy it for and which capabilities matter to you. Compare like-for-like Australian televisions on current transaction price, size and viewing distance, independently measured HDR brightness and contrast, measured gaming input lag, required apps, HDMI/eARC needs, warranty and physical fit. The available evidence does not support naming a head-to-head winner or calling this the best TV in its class.
