1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe Hisense 55S7NAU is a 55-inch 4K QLED television that doubles as an art display. It suits buyers who want a TV that looks like a framed picture when it is off, and who are happy with a mid-range screen and built-in speakers. It is a weaker choice for anyone who wants Dolby Atmos, a soundbar-free setup, or a model that is easy to find new. Its Australian availability is uncertain, and this review does not include hands-on testing, so the performance points below are Hisense’s published specifications and feature claims unless stated otherwise.
What this model is, and which version this covers
The 55S7NAU is the Australian edition of Hisense’s CanvasTV line, sold as the “55-inch 4K QLED CanvasTV” on Hisense Australia’s product page. Hisense’s specification sheet describes it as a 2024 model. North American S7N variants are not the same product: the Australian sheet lists VIDAA as its smart platform and an Australian broadcast tuner, so features and app lineups should not be carried over from US or Canadian listings.

#1 Best Overall
- ART GALLERY: The CanvasTV transforms any room into a curated gallery experience, displaying stunning artwork and photography when you're not watching. Choose from more than 1,000 complimentary curated works across styles and eras, or display your own photos and collections. Swap collections, rotate pieces and change the mood of any room. It's not just a TV. It's a piece of art.
- Hi-Matte Display: Every detail the director intended — every shadow, every texture, every expression—comes through exactly as it should. The CanvasTV's anti-glare display eliminates reflections and distractions, so the story on screen is the only thing you see. Whether it's sunlight streaming through the window or a lamp behind the couch, the picture stays rich, clear and completely yours.
- Choose Your Frame – Teak Frame Included: Your art. Your style. Your space. The CanvasTV fits seamlessly into your home and shifts with your mood, from serene watercolors in the morning to bold abstracts in the evening. And with the included Teak Frame, it looks like a piece of art even when it's just hanging on your wall.
- Included UltraSlim Wall Mount: Designed to blend into your room — and take it over at the same time. The CanvasTV sits flush against the wall like a framed piece of art, with no bulk, no clutter and no compromise. Clean lines. Zero gap. All screen. The kind of design that makes guests stop and stare before they even realize it's a TV. And with the wall mount included, getting that perfect, gallery-worthy look has never been easier.
- 4K Hi - QLED Color: Every brushstroke. Every gradient. Every vivid hue—rendered in breathtaking 4K resolution. Whether you're watching a film or displaying a masterpiece, the CanvasTV brings color to life with a level of depth and accuracy that makes everything on screen feel real enough to reach out and touch.
Ports and gaming connections
The set has four HDMI inputs, and the gaming-relevant ones are split by generation. Only HDMI 3 offers eARC, so an external soundbar or amplifier should go there if you plan to use one.
| Port | Listed standard | Listed features |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI 1 | HDMI 2.0 | VRR, ALLM |
| HDMI 2 | HDMI 2.0 | VRR, ALLM |
| HDMI 3 | HDMI 2.1 | eARC, VRR, ALLM |
| HDMI 4 | HDMI 2.1 | VRR, ALLM |
The full sheet also lists two USB ports (USB 3.0 and USB 2.0), Ethernet, Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, a composite input and a headphone output. The product page’s abbreviated panel omits several of these, so use the PDF when you need to confirm a specific connection.
Art Mode, the matte screen and the frame
This is the main reason to consider the set. Hisense describes three linked features:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Art Mode displays artwork when the TV is idle rather than a black screen.
- Hi-Matte screen is described by Hisense as reducing glare, which matters most in rooms with windows or lamps.
- Ambient light sensor and motion detector: the light sensor adjusts brightness and colour temperature, and Hisense says the motion detector works within 2–4 metres and that performance may vary with lighting.
Hisense’s product page says a free VIDAA account unlocks an art library of more than 1,000 works, and that 300 works are available without signing in. These counts come from an undated Australian product page and may change, so confirm them before buying if the library is a deciding factor.
The frame is part of the offer. Hisense’s page states: “Your TV comes with a premium Teak frame included in the box.” The page also describes magnetic StyleSwap frames, with White or Walnut redeemable under stated terms. Check the current promotion conditions and frame stock before counting a second frame in your budget, because redemption depends on those terms.
Rank #2
- Art Mode: Show off your taste in art when you’re not watching your TV. Select a single picture or create a slideshow of paintings that match your mood. You can even share all your favorite photos on the big screen by connecting a USB or snapping a picture of a QR code.
- Choose Your Frame: Switch in (and out) the CanvasTV’s magnetic frame whenever the mood strikes. Just snap it into place and voila! The CanvasTV comes with the teak frame, but you can also opt for the white or walnut frame, both sold separately.
- Hi-Matte Display: Admire your favorite works of art without the glare. A special, low reflection coating enhances your masterpiece-viewing experience by giving the digital artwork the depth and texture of real paintings.
- Multi-Channel Surround Sound: Get in on the action, whether you’re watching movies, playing games, or listening to music. 2.0.2 surround sound fills up your room and transports you into the scene.
- UltraSlim Wall Mount: Hang your CanvasTV flush against the wall to save space and blend in with your decor. The innovative, two-part mounting system makes the screen light enough that it’s easy to handle and install with the help of another person.
Built-in sound
The speakers are 2 × 10 W stereo with Dolby Digital and no Dolby Atmos. That is a spec-sheet fact. Whether the sound is good enough for your room has not been tested here. If you plan to watch a lot of films or sport in a large room, budget for a soundbar and use HDMI 3 for eARC.
Wall mounting
Hisense says an UltraSlim wall mount is included. The official page warns that a gap may remain if the wall is uneven or the mount is installed incorrectly, so a level, solid wall and careful fitting matter. The 300 mm VESA pattern indicates compatibility with standard mounts, but check the current manual for mounting instructions and your wall type before you start. A separate mount or installer is only necessary if the included bracket does not suit your wall.
Availability and price
Hisense’s Australian product page lists A$1,799 including GST and shows the model as out of stock. CHOICE’s listing describes the model as a discontinued model. Appliances Online also has a product page for the 2024 model, but a product page does not confirm current stock. Treat the price and availability as unconfirmed until you check the Hisense page, Appliances Online and other Australian retailers on the day you buy.
Who should buy it, and who should not
- Buy it if you want an art display that looks like a framed picture when idle, you have a clear wall spot for a mount, and you want HDMI 2.1 ports for a console with VRR and ALLM.
- Consider something else if you want Dolby Atmos, a stronger built-in speaker system, or a model you can buy new today at a confirmed price.
- Be cautious if your room has heavy glare and you have not compared screen treatments in person; the matte panel is a manufacturer claim and has not been independently verified here.
CHOICE publishes test outcomes for members only, and those scores are not available for this review. For picture quality or reliability, look for independent results before you commit.
