A reported visit by Hideo Kojima to Sony City on October 13, 2026, prompted fans to joke that his Joy Division shirt and the corporate setting looked like a scene involving Johnny Silverhand and Arasaka Tower from Cyberpunk 2077. That is a fan interpretation—not evidence that Kojima meant to reference the game or send Sony a message.
What happened at Sony City?
Instant Gaming News reported on October 13, 2026, that Kojima visited Sony City and posted photos. The outlet reproduced the wording “Visited Sony City” and attributed it to Kojima. The original post was not independently accessible for verification, so the visit and post wording should be understood as reported rather than independently confirmed here. Instant Gaming News covered the report, and users discussed it the same day in Reddit’s r/physint.

The report does not establish that the visit marked a reconciliation, a new agreement, or an announcement about a game. Being photographed or reported at Sony City, by itself, does not answer what business—if any—was discussed. No project announcement or new partnership follows simply from the fact of a reported visit.
Why did fans bring up Johnny Silverhand and Arasaka Tower?
The comparison combines two visible ideas: a Joy Division shirt and a visit to the headquarters of a major technology and entertainment company. In Cyberpunk 2077, Johnny Silverhand is associated with anti-corporate rebellion, while Arasaka is a powerful fictional corporation. Some viewers therefore treated the Sony setting as a real-world backdrop for a Silverhand-style joke: a figure in a band shirt associated with the visit to a corporate headquarters.

That reading belongs to the audience. The available coverage does not show Kojima saying the shirt was a reference to Silverhand, Arasaka, or the game, nor does it establish that he intended an anti-Sony statement. The comparison is a visual and fictional parallel, not evidence that Sony is equivalent to Arasaka or that Kojima was reenacting a specific storyline. ENMNEWS reported that fan theories and comparisons followed the visit, but its broader project claims are not independently corroborated by the other cited material. ENMNEWS reported on the fan comparisons.
Reddit discussion linked to an Instagram post attributed to Kojima and shows that some users joked about the visit. That establishes that discussion occurred, not how widespread the reaction was or what Kojima intended. No verified reaction count or named statement from Kojima about the comparison is available.

Has Kojima worn Joy Division before?
Yes. A June 2, 2008, GameSpot report about Kojima’s appearance in London said a Konami staffer identified him as a Joy Division fan and described him wearing a T-shirt bearing the band’s name. That older account makes a straightforward explanation plausible: the shirt may reflect an existing musical interest rather than a new message about Sony. It does not identify the garment worn in 2026 or prove why he chose it that day. GameSpot’s 2008 report provides the historical context.

The available reporting does not identify the 2026 shirt’s exact design, model, maker, or seller. The older GameSpot account establishes only that Kojima was previously described wearing a Joy Division T-shirt. It is not enough to identify the current shirt or claim that a particular online listing is the same item. A generic Joy Division T-shirt is a reasonable search term for someone who likes the look, but it should not be presented as an exact match.

The Bottom Line
Kojima’s Sony City visit was reported on October 13, 2026, and fans used the Joy Division shirt and corporate setting to make a Johnny Silverhand comparison.
