What is Space Battleship Yamato √2199?
It is the title reported for a new feature in the long-running Space Battleship Yamato franchise. The announcement is a Yamato project, not a new Neon Genesis Evangelion production. Toy-People’s October 6, 2026 report describes it as a film directed by Anno and identifies Studio Khara and Production I.G as animation production partners: Toy-People’s report.

The reports do not establish whether √2199 continues, replaces, or sits apart from the existing Yamato remake-film sequence. It is therefore premature to call it a sequel, reboot, or installment in that continuity.

Who is making the film?
- Hideaki Anno: Toy-People lists him as director, planner, and executive producer. A Polygon-syndicated report also describes him as a co-director.
- Yutaka Izubuchi: Toy-People names him as co-director; the Polygon-syndicated account describes Anno and Izubuchi as co-directors.
- Studio Khara and Production I.G: Both are named as animation production partners. Toy-People also lists Mitsuhisa Ishikawa for planning and SHIN OFFICE ACADEMY for production.
Because the reports phrase Anno’s directing credit differently, “reported directing team” is the safest concise description until definitive official credits are available. Toy-People characterizes this as the first animated collaboration between Studio Khara and Production I.G.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is an earlier franchise work, distinct from the newly reported Space Battleship Yamato √2199 film. Its title alone does not establish that the new feature continues that story or belongs to the same remake-film sequence. The available reports leave that relationship unresolved.
