Hexowatch and ChangeTower both monitor web pages for changes, but neither is a universal winner. Hexowatch’s published feature list spans visual, content, technical, availability, pricing, and domain-related monitoring. ChangeTower emphasizes content and AI-criteria monitoring, selective checks, dated snapshots, and team workflows. Choose by the kind of change you need to catch, how quickly you need to know, how much history you need, and where alerts must go. Their official pages describe features and plans, not comparative detection accuracy.

Which kinds of changes do you need to detect?
Choose Hexowatch when the change is broader than page text
Hexowatch’s listed monitoring types cover more than ordinary content edits: visual differences, keywords, technology and source-code changes, availability, prices, WHOIS, sitemaps, APIs, backlinks, and RSS. Its homepage describes use cases such as competitor prices, product availability, recruiting pages, property listings, reviews, backlinks, and website changes relevant to security or compliance. If your job is to watch several kinds of signals across sites, compare its available modes against your exact monitoring target. Hexowatch’s feature overview is the vendor source for this breadth.

ChangeTower’s feature page describes content, AI, keyword, selective, scheduled, and domain monitoring. Selective monitoring can help focus attention on chosen parts of a page; AI criteria-based monitoring is presented as a way to specify what should trigger an alert. The vendor also lists recorded user actions and password-protected page monitoring. These descriptions do not prove better accuracy, so test representative pages and alert criteria before relying on them for a critical workflow. See ChangeTower’s feature page.

How often does ChangeTower check a page?
ChangeTower’s pricing page lists Free and Lite as daily, Essential as hourly, and Business with conflicting information: its plan summary and FAQ say every 20 minutes, while the extracted pricing matrix says hourly. Enterprise is custom. Because the vendor’s official materials disagree on Business cadence, confirm the live terms directly before choosing a plan based on check speed. Check the current ChangeTower pricing page and its FAQ before purchase.
Hexowatch’s pricing page lists a maximum 15-minute frequency for Pro and 5-minute maximum for Business. These are vendor-listed plan details and can change; verify the current plan card and billing terms. The page capture lists Pro at $24.17/month equivalent, 4,500 checks monthly, and a displayed annual total of $290; Business at $45.83/month equivalent, 10,000 checks, and $550 annually; and Business+ at $99/month equivalent, 25,000 checks, and $999 annually. Enterprise is tailored, and a residential GEO proxy credit add-on starts at $9.99/month. Some details may not appear in the dynamically rendered page text. See Hexowatch pricing for current terms.

Does ChangeTower have a free plan, and how do the plans compare?
Yes. ChangeTower lists a free tier for three monitored pages with daily checks. Its paid plans increase page capacity and, depending on tier, check cadence and feature access. The vendor states prices are US dollars and annual billing saves 20%; its listed annual-equivalent monthly prices are shown below. Prices and plan features are subject to change. Confirm the current pricing matrix before subscribing.
| ChangeTower plan | Pages | Check cadence listed | Monthly price listed | Snapshot history |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 3 | Daily | Free | 30 days |
| Lite | 25 | Daily | $12/month; $10/month annual equivalent | 30 days |
| Essential | 100 | Hourly | $36/month; $29/month annual equivalent | 60 days |
| Business | 200 | Conflicting official details: hourly in the pricing matrix, every 20 minutes in plan summary and FAQ | $78/month; $62/month annual equivalent | 6 months |
| Enterprise | Not stated (custom plan) | Custom | Custom priced | Not stated |
Hexowatch’s page gives check quotas and frequency maxima on the listed plans, but the available page text does not establish a directly comparable history-retention schedule. Do not assume that its archiving description means the same retention period or evidence format as ChangeTower snapshots.

How much alert filtering, history, and team integration do you need?
Alert filtering
ChangeTower describes selective and AI-criteria monitoring. Hexowatch lists multiple monitoring modes, but its reviewed material does not establish a comparative false-alert rate. Match the feature to the pages you actually monitor, then validate how each service behaves on pages with rotating banners, timestamps, or frequently changing content.
Snapshots and history
ChangeTower says it saves a dated snapshot on every check and lists history retention by plan: 30 days for Free and Lite, 60 days for Essential, and six months for Business. It also says it renders JavaScript content in a real browser. Hexowatch describes archiving, but the reviewed official pages do not provide directly comparable retention durations. If audit evidence or long lookbacks matter, confirm the exact snapshot contents, retention, and export options with each vendor.
Alerts and collaboration
ChangeTower says email alerts are available on all tiers. Its FAQ places Slack, webhooks, and MCP for AI assistants on Business and Enterprise. The Teams status is unclear: the features page lists Microsoft Teams, while the FAQ says native integration is in development and suggests an email-address workaround. Verify availability with the vendor before designing around Teams. Hexowatch’s reviewed pricing-page capture does not provide a complete integrations matrix, so check the current plan details for your required destinations.

Can ChangeTower monitor password-protected pages?
ChangeTower says manual actions can replay steps such as logging in, accepting a cookie banner, or selecting a location. That support does not mean every site can be monitored: the company says sites that outright block automated traffic can prevent monitoring, and its FAQ names X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram as sites that block crawlers. Before selecting a service for authenticated or restricted content, confirm that the target site permits the needed automated access and test the precise workflow.
Which website change monitoring tool is better?
- Investigate Hexowatch if you need visual checks or a wider mix of monitoring categories such as technical, availability, price, API, sitemap, or WHOIS monitoring.
- Investigate ChangeTower if you want to start with a small page set, use selective or AI-criteria alerting, and keep dated snapshots and shared workflows.
- Compare check intervals before buying if minutes matter: ChangeTower’s Business cadence is inconsistent across its official materials, and both vendors’ plan terms can change.
- Run a practical trial on representative pages if false alerts, dynamic content, login steps, or blocked automation are central to the decision. Published feature lists cannot establish comparative detection quality.
Hexowatch says its service is trusted by “over 150,000 businesses of all sizes.” That is the vendor’s claim; the reviewed page does not state a year or provide independent verification.
ScreenshotNeo as an alternative for capturing pages
If your need is to capture the current appearance of a page rather than continuously monitor it for future changes, try ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server. It is a different kind of tool from ongoing change-monitoring services, so it is not a direct substitute for scheduled alerts. ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with a URL and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF capture; its docs are at ScreenshotNeo’s API documentation.
One-call example
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server includes tools for AI agents, and the free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.

- Write down the exact change to detect: visual layout, a text phrase, a selected element, source code, availability, or a domain-level event.
- Set the maximum acceptable delay between a change and an alert, then compare the current plan cadence and monthly capacity.
- Decide how long you must retain snapshots or other evidence, and confirm what the vendor actually stores and permits you to export.
- Check required destinations and team workflows, especially ChangeTower’s current Teams availability and Business cadence.
- Test pages that represent your real workload, including JavaScript-heavy and authenticated pages, before treating feature descriptions as a guarantee.
