Herz describes an eight-electrode, dual-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) design, but the accuracy claims on its product page are the manufacturer’s own, and the sources reviewed for this guide do not independently validate them for this model. If you need a clinically established body-composition reading, or you have a pacemaker or similar implant, or you are pregnant, the P1 is not the right tool for that purpose.
What Herz claims the P1 does
Herz’s product page describes the P1 as a connected scale with eight electrodes that contact the hands and feet, a 76 mm display, a tempered-glass platform, Bluetooth connectivity, and a stated capacity of 400 lb (180 kg). The listing advertises 56 metrics and says the scale offers “up to 97% accuracy,” or a 97% correlation with professional devices. These are manufacturer specifications and marketing statements. They describe what Herz says the product does; they are not results from an independent test of this model.

Herz’s getting-started guide lists the estimates the app can display: weight, BMI, body fat percentage, muscle mass, body water, bone mass, protein, visceral fat, and basal metabolic rate. Treat every one of these as an estimate produced by a formula applied to an electrical measurement, not as a direct look at your tissues.

How to read BIA body-composition estimates
BIA sends a small electrical current through the body and measures impedance, the resistance to that current. Body water conducts current well, and fat tissue conducts it poorly, so the device uses impedance together with your entered height, weight, age, and sex to estimate composition. The method depends on a model of the body that may not match yours.

The National Institutes of Health Technology Assessment Conference statement on BIA concludes that the method can provide a useful estimate of total body water under many conditions. It also says readings depend on the conditions at the time of measurement, and that those conditions should be standardized for reliable results. The statement puts it this way:
“BIA values are affected by numerous variables including body position, hydration status, consumption of food and beverages, ambient air and skin temperature, recent physical activity, and conductance of the examining table.” (National Institutes of Health Technology Assessment Conference statement on BIA)

- COMPREHENSIVE FULL-BODY ANALYSIS: The GE smart scale utilizes 8-electrode dual-frequency and segmental BIA technology, segmenting the body into five sections(four limbs and torso) to provide more detailed, consistent body composition estimates for trend tracking
- 50 BODY COMPOSITION METRICS: The GE body fat scale measures not only weight but also BMI, body fat, muscle mass, body water, bone mass, protein, visceral fat, BMR, skeletal muscle, subcutaneous fat, fat-free body weight, metabolic age, etc
- 7 METRICS SHOWN ON DISPLAY: The weight scale with body fat and muscle mass is equipped with an HD LED display, showing 7 key metrics including weight, BMI, body fat, body water, muscle mass, bone mass, and visceral fat. Once the Fit Profile app is downloaded and the initial setup is completed, these metrics can be viewed directly on the scale's display, eliminating the need to open the app each time. It makes health monitoring easy and convenient, great for personal or gym use
- USER-FRIENDLY APP FOR TRACKING AND SHARING: The free app Fit Profile provides detailed charts and saves historical body data so you can track changes in your body composition over days, weeks, months, or years. Easy to set up and works with fitness apps including AppIe Health, for Fitbit, Google Fit, and you can also share your body data changes with your friends and family
- UNLIMITED USERS: The GE body composition scale has a large weighing surface measuring 12.2 in * 13.2 in * 1.3 in (310 * 336 * 33.8 mm). It supports unlimited users, and up to 9 profiles can be created; it instantly recognizes the user when they step on the scale, perfect for families and fitness groups who want to monitor their body data to improve their health
The practical consequence is that a single reading is a weak signal, while a series of readings taken under the same conditions can show direction. A drop in body fat percentage that appears after a day of heavy sweating or a large meal is more likely to reflect hydration than a real change in tissue.

A 2008 study published in Obesity Facts compared consumer BIA devices with MRI and DXA in 106 adults. Agreement between devices varied, and the authors recommended tetrapolar electrode arrangements over foot-to-foot arrangements for individual or public use. That study did not test the Herz P1, so it is useful as background on how this method behaves across consumer products, not as a verdict on this scale.

Setup and a measurement routine that makes trends meaningful
Because the P1’s value lies in repeated readings, the routine matters more than any single number. Herz’s setup guide (last updated March 29, 2026) gives these steps:
- Place the scale on a hard, flat surface. Carpet or an uneven floor changes how the electrodes contact the skin.
- Make sure your feet are clean and dry, then step on barefoot.
- Stand still with your feet on the electrodes until the reading finishes.
- Measure at the same time of day each time. Herz recommends mornings before you eat or drink.
- Avoid measuring right after exercise, a bath or sauna, a meal, a drink, illness, or dehydration.
Connecting the app
- Install the Unique Health app and create an account or sign in.
- Enter your age, height, and gender. These values feed the estimate formulas.
- Enable Bluetooth, and location services if the app asks for them.
- Pair the scale through the app. Readings then sync to your profile.
Herz says the display can show weight without the app. Body-composition readings and historical trends require the Unique Health app, so if you do not want an app account, the P1 gives you only the weight measurement.

Power setup
Herz’s setup guide calls for four AAA batteries. Some sales listings describe a rechargeable model with a stated battery life. Check the packaging or the current product page for your unit before you buy or assume a charging routine.
Safety cautions from the manufacturer
- Implanted devices: Herz advises against use with a pacemaker or similar implant. Anyone with an implanted electronic device should follow their clinician’s guidance on body-composition scales and should not rely on the P1 for decisions about that device.
- Pregnancy: Herz does not recommend using the scale during pregnancy.
- Medical use: Herz’s health-data guide (last updated January 20, 2026) describes the app’s readings as wellness tracking that should not replace medical advice. If a reading worries you, speak with a clinician rather than adjusting medication, diet, or training based on the app alone.
Who the Herz P1 is best for
The P1 fits best when the following are true:
- You want weight and body-composition trends in one app and will follow them over weeks or months rather than reacting to single readings.
- You can measure under the same conditions each time, in the morning, barefoot, on a hard floor.
- You are comfortable entering personal details and using a Bluetooth-connected app with an account.
- You accept that the displayed body fat, muscle, and water figures are estimates, and that the manufacturer’s accuracy percentage is not independently confirmed for this model.
Who should look elsewhere
- People who need a body-composition figure for a clinical decision, a diagnosis, or a treatment plan. A clinic-grade measurement such as DXA is the appropriate reference for that purpose.
- People who do not want to create or use a companion app. Without it, the P1 shows only weight.
- People with a pacemaker or similar implant, and people who are pregnant, for the manufacturer’s reasons above.
How to compare the P1 with another smart scale
Use the same criteria for every scale you consider, and avoid concluding that the P1 is more accurate than a competitor unless both have been tested under comparable conditions. Useful checks include:
- Whether the app is required for body-composition data, and whether you can export your history.
- Electrode configuration. The 2008 comparison favored tetrapolar arrangements for individual use, and the P1 uses an eight-electrode hand-and-foot design.
- Stated capacity, display size, and connectivity.
- Any recurring subscription fees for the app.
- Whether the accuracy claim is supported by an independent study of that specific model.
This guide does not quote a current price, warranty terms, or retailer availability for the P1. Check the manufacturer’s current listing and your retailer’s return policy before buying.
