What kind of game is Hellraiser: Revival?

Tim Willits, Saber Interactive’s chief creative officer, describes it as “a single-player, first-person action survival horror experience” set in “the dark world of Clive Barker’s twisted imagination.” That wording matters: the game is designed around one player’s campaign and horror atmosphere, not a party-based action game.
Weapons and the Genesis Configuration
Aidan’s earthly weapons include melee and ranged options. The Genesis Configuration is more than a key for opening doors: it is a puzzle box with supernatural powers that can be manipulated during exploration and encounters. Steam’s description says players combine those abilities with conventional weapons against wretches, deviants, cultists and infernal priests.
That combination creates two distinct problem-solving layers. Weapons address immediate physical threats, while the box supplies the supernatural toolset needed to understand or alter the environment. The available descriptions do not establish a complete inventory, upgrade tree or combat-control scheme, so those details should be confirmed in the finished game rather than assumed from the films.

Who are the enemies?
The announced enemy groups include wretches, deviants, cultists and infernal priests. Cenobites are also central to the story and mythology, but the official descriptions emphasize that they are not presented as conventional monsters with an uncomplicated good-versus-evil role. Emil Esov, the game director, writes that Hellraiser distinguishes itself through Cenobites “who aren’t so easily viewed as being morally bad.” Their motives and relationship to human characters are therefore part of the narrative tension, not merely a list of targets.
What is the story?
Aidan’s girlfriend, Sunny, activates the Genesis Configuration. That act draws the Cenobites into their lives and sets the main crisis in motion. The 2026 developer diary says the Cenobites tear Sunny in half, but Aidan discovers that her soul may still be saved. His journey takes him toward the Labyrinth in search of a way to recover her.

The Scarlet Church and Marlowe
The Scarlet Church provides a human antagonist and a competing interpretation of the box. Led by Marlowe, the group seeks contact with the Cenobites and intends to use the Genesis Configuration to create what it sees as a debauched paradise. This objective places Aidan between the Church’s ambitions and the Cenobites’ own agenda while he pursues a personal rescue mission.
The premise combines intimate stakes—Aidan trying to save Sunny—with a larger conflict over who controls access to the Labyrinth and what that access should be used to create. The supplied story material does not reveal the campaign’s ending or how much choice affects it, so those outcomes remain unknown.
Is it connected to the Hellraiser movies?
It is connected in inspiration and mythology, not as a direct continuation of the first two films’ plots. Xbox Wire describes the game as inspired by their atmosphere, themes and mythos while explicitly distinguishing its plot from the movies’ storylines.
Clive Barker was involved from the beginning of development. His participation was intended to preserve the visual style, recurring motifs, lore and character personalities associated with Hellraiser. That makes the game an officially guided expansion of the setting rather than a scene-for-scene retelling. You do not need to treat it as a missing chapter in the film chronology to understand Aidan’s story.
Is Hellraiser: Revival multiplayer or co-op?
No. Treat the game as single-player only. Steam lists “Single-player” in its Features section, and the Xbox listing identifies “Single player” under Capabilities. Neither official listing advertises online co-op, split-screen play, versus modes or any other multiplayer feature.

The strongest fit is a player who wants a focused first-person story, supernatural puzzles and combat in a world shaped by Clive Barker’s mythology. The campaign is not marketed as a repeatable co-op shooter or an online service.
Choose Standard if you only need the game
On PlayStation, the listed $10 difference separates Standard and Deluxe. Standard is sufficient for the core campaign; the available Deluxe description centers on weapons, skins, a charm and digital collectibles rather than a separate story campaign.
