Helix Sleep, Bear Mattress and Leesa each publish a 365-night trial for mattresses bought directly from their own websites. That is the current position in their official policy pages, checked October 9, 2026. The trials are not identical, though, and the differences in start date, minimum break-in period, eligibility limits and purchase channel decide how much the headline number is worth to you. Treating a missing trial as a warning sign is a reasonable buying habit, but it is a judgment about risk, not a finding that longer trials make a better mattress.
What each brand currently offers
All three brands are listed as part of the House of Sleep Brands portfolio on the parent company’s own site, 3Z Brands. The trial terms below come from each brand’s own policy pages, not from independent testing.

Read the clock before you read the number
A 365-night trial is only useful if you understand when the clock starts and how long you must wait before you can send a mattress back. Three details matter most:

Leesa’s support page states the same 365-night period from delivery. A bed that sits in a warehouse or waits for a delayed courier does not add days to your trial, so track the delivery date in your records.
- Minimum break-in. Helix describes a 30-day break-in period before a mattress can be returned. Leesa and Bear both state that at least 30 nights must pass first. Those minimums mean the first month is not a free return window. It is a fixed adjustment period, and a return requested before it ends can be refused.
- Stale wording. Some older Bear pages found in searches still describe a 120-night trial. Bear’s current terms, which apply to purchases on or after October 7, 2026, state 365 nights. If you are reading an older page or a retailer’s copy of the offer, check its date before you rely on it.
Who qualifies, and how many times
The headline number applies to the first purchase in many cases, not to every bed you buy from the same company. Read the eligibility lines before you assume you can swap a second mattress later:

- Household or address. Leesa’s full trial covers the first two mattress purchases per household and shipping/billing address. Bear allows one mattress return per household or address.
- Order sequence. Bear’s return right is limited to the first order. A later order placed by the same household may carry no trial right at all.
- Excluded products. Bear excludes closeout, final-sale, clearance and older-dated mattresses. Those items can carry shorter or no return rights, so check the product page and the order confirmation before you pay.
Buying from a retailer changes the answer
A direct-to-consumer trial is a promise made by the seller that sold you the bed. If you buy the same model from a third-party retailer or a marketplace, that promise may not travel with the product. Leesa’s support article on retail-store purchases, last updated March 10, 2026, states that retail partners can have different policies and is titled around a 120-night trial, which is a reason to read the store’s own paperwork rather than the brand’s headline. The brand’s 365-night policy describes the brand’s direct sales. It does not describe every listing with the same mattress name.
Before buying from a retailer, ask for the written return policy and confirm three things: the length of the trial, whether the return is refunded or exchanged, and who pays return shipping or pickup.
Why a missing trial is a reasonable warning sign
A no-trial offer is a reason to slow down. It means the seller is asking you to commit to a bed without a defined period to test it at home, and your only recourse may be a warranty claim, which covers defects rather than comfort. Treating that as a red flag is sensible consumer advice, especially for a purchase you will use every night for years.
The phrase overreaches if it suggests that a long trial proves a mattress is good. The sources reviewed here do not include independent studies that compare trial length with return rates, customer satisfaction or long-term quality. The 365-night figure is each brand’s own policy, not an industry standard or a measured optimum. A 365-night trial also does not tell you how a mattress will feel on your frame, in your sleeping position, or after the break-in period ends.

Leesa’s terms treat the trial or return policy and the product warranty as separate protections. The trial lets you return a mattress that does not suit you, subject to the minimum period and the conditions above. The warranty covers manufacturing defects over a stated period and does not usually return a bed simply because it feels wrong. Read both documents, because a long trial does not extend a warranty and a warranty does not replace a trial.

Is this a new launch?
The official sources establish the current 365-night terms for each brand, but they do not show one joint announcement that launched the same policy for all three on the same date. The clearest dated change is Bear’s terms, which apply to purchases on or after October 7, 2026. Leesa’s policy page is dated May 2026 and its support article was updated October 5, 2026. Helix’s support policy was updated October 7, 2026. For that reason, the accurate description is that the three brands now offer year-long direct trials, with dates that vary by brand.
Brand statements, in their own words
Leesa’s support page says: “Our mattresses come with a 365-night trial period.” (Leesa support, “What is the trial period for Leesa products?”, updated October 5, 2026.)
Bear’s terms state: “You may request a return of your mattress within 365 nights from the delivery date of your mattress.” (Bear Mattress, Terms and Conditions of Sale, last updated October 7, 2026.)
These are the brands’ own statements. No independent expert or consumer assessment of these policies was found in the sources checked.
Checklist before you buy
- Confirm you are buying from the brand’s own site, or read the seller’s return policy in writing if you are not.
- Check that your address is in the United States or Canada if you are considering Helix.
- Count how many mattresses your household or address has already bought from that brand, and whether this is the first order.
- Note the delivery date and the earliest date a return can be requested, after the 30-night or 30-day minimum.
- Check whether the model is a closeout, clearance or older-dated item.
- Ask who pays return shipping or pickup, and whether the refund is full or reduced.
- Read the warranty separately, and keep the order confirmation and delivery proof together.
Policies can change, so confirm the current terms on the brand’s page on the day you order, and keep a copy of the policy you accepted.
