The MediaTek Helio G81 is the stronger chipset overall on the published specifications and available benchmark aggregates, particularly for graphics. The Helio G35 has a higher stated peak CPU clock, but its eight Cortex-A53 cores are configured differently from the G81’s two Cortex-A75 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Those chip-level differences are useful when comparing phones, but they do not guarantee how any specific handset will perform.

How the CPU and GPU differences affect performance
CPU: architecture matters more than the peak clock alone
The G35’s maximum listed CPU frequency is 2.3GHz, higher than the G81’s 2GHz maximum for its Cortex-A75 cores. But the G35 uses eight Cortex-A53 cores, while the G81 pairs two Cortex-A75 cores with six Cortex-A55 cores. A clock-speed number by itself does not establish which chip will complete a task faster; core design, workload and the phone’s power and thermal settings also matter.
GPU: the G81 has the stronger listed graphics hardware
The G81’s Mali-G52 MC2 is listed up to 820MHz; the G35’s PowerVR GE8320 is listed up to 680MHz. This specification comparison favors the G81 for graphics capability, but it cannot tell you the frame rate or graphics settings a particular game will sustain on a particular phone.

Helio G81 vs Helio G35 benchmark results
NanoReview’s comparison reports higher aggregate scores for the G81 in the listed benchmarks. These are third-party aggregated results, not MediaTek figures or a controlled test of otherwise identical phones.
| Benchmark | Helio G81 | Helio G35 | What the figures show |
|---|---|---|---|
| AnTuTu 11 | 358,608 (43 tests) | 200,794 (2 tests) | The reported aggregate favors G81; the G35 result has a much smaller sample. |
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 432 | 300 | The reported aggregate favors G81. |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 1,416 | 843 | The reported aggregate favors G81. |
| PCMark 3.0 | 8,824 (12 tested phone models) | 5,781 (fewer than 3 tested phone models) | The reported aggregate favors G81, with unequal device counts. |
Scores can vary with handset model, operating temperature, firmware, memory configuration and benchmark version. The unequal sample sizes—especially for AnTuTu 11 and PCMark—make these useful as directional evidence, not a precise prediction for a phone you are considering. The current comparison is available from NanoReview.

Choose a Helio G81 phone if performance is the priority
The G81 is the stronger starting point if you want more capable graphics hardware, a newer mix of CPU core types, or the higher results shown in the cited benchmark aggregates. Treat those advantages as reasons to compare G81 phones first, not as a guarantee that every G81 handset will outperform every G35 handset in daily use.

A Helio G35 phone may still make sense for basic use
The G35’s specifications and scores place it behind the G81 in this comparison, but chipset ranking alone does not determine whether a particular phone meets a modest-use need. The phone’s price, condition, memory and storage configuration, battery behavior and software support are part of the decision.
What to check when comparing actual phones
Before choosing between two handsets, compare more than the chipset name:
- RAM and storage: Confirm the exact configuration. Platform memory support is a ceiling, not a guarantee of the amount installed in a phone.
- Display resolution: A higher-resolution screen can increase the graphics workload, so consider the display alongside gaming needs.
- Cooling and sustained performance: Different phone designs can manage heat and power differently, changing performance over longer sessions.
- Software and battery behavior: Check the phone’s software support and how its battery meets your needs; the chip comparison does not establish either.
- Exact model and regional variant: Verify the chipset and configuration for the specific phone listing, rather than relying on a family name or a listing for another region.
- Price and condition: Compare the complete handset and its current condition, not just the processor.
Why benchmark scores are not a phone-buying verdict
The NanoReview scores combine results from phone models rather than isolating the chipset in identical test systems. Differences in cooling, firmware, memory and other hardware can influence results. The smaller G35 sample also makes some score comparisons less representative. Use the figures to understand the broad direction of the comparison, then weigh verified specifications and reviews of the exact handset you plan to buy.
MediaTek’s launch material for the G35 described its G-series positioning in promotional terms; that wording is a vendor claim, not independent measurement. The company’s G35 and G25 announcement is useful for launch context, but it does not provide a controlled G81-versus-G35 performance test.
