Yes, but the Hela demo is substantially more demanding than the low-specification table on the game’s general website suggests. For the current Windows demo, the practical minimum is a 16 GB dual-channel system with a Core i5-8600K or Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX 1060 6 GB or Radeon RX 580 8 GB. Epic Games Store specifies 1080p at 30 frames per second on the low preset for split-screen at minimum specifications. For high-quality 1440p play, the published recommended tier rises to a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D, an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT, and 16 GB of RAM.

Hela demo PC requirements at a glance

The Epic Games Store listing is the most specific current source for the demo, and Steam lists the same minimum and recommended hardware tiers. Both listings describe a 64-bit Windows release, 16 GB of dual-channel memory in each tier, and 15 GB of storage.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 x64 Windows 11 x64
Processor Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Memory 16 GB dual-channel RAM 16 GB dual-channel RAM
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 8 GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
Storage 15 GB 15 GB
Published target Split-screen: low preset, 1080p at 30 fps Single-player: high preset, 1440p at 40 fps; split-screen: high preset, 1440p at 30 fps

These figures are the demo’s published targets, not independent benchmark results. They should be treated as planning points rather than a guarantee for every computer using a similarly named part. Laptop versions, thermal limits, background applications, driver versions and memory configuration can all change actual performance.

Epic Games Store provides the explicit minimum split-screen statement: a PC meeting minimum specifications can run split-screen only on the low graphics preset at 1080p and 30 fps. Steam corroborates the component lists and identifies single-player, online co-op and local shared or split-screen co-op modes.

What the two hardware tiers mean in practice

The graphics card is the first comparison

The biggest jump between the tiers is the GPU. A GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 8 GB is the entry point for the demo, while an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT is the published basis for high-preset 1440p play. If you are comparing otherwise similar PCs, compare the graphics card class before looking at small CPU differences.

A system with an older card between these groups may run the demo, but the published material does not establish a particular frame rate for intermediate hardware. Do not interpret “between minimum and recommended” as an automatic promise of 1440p, high settings or a fixed 30/40 fps.

The processor matters more when more than one player is rendered

The minimum processor pair is a Core i5-8600K or Ryzen 5 2600. The recommended pair moves to a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D. That higher CPU tier is especially relevant to split-screen and co-op, where the game must manage additional player views and game-state activity. A fast GPU paired with a very old or power-limited processor may still produce uneven frame pacing.

Memory capacity is 16 GB in both listings

Do not buy a 32 GB kit solely because the recommended row exists: the published recommended specification remains 16 GB dual-channel. Dual-channel operation matters, so two matched modules or a correctly configured memory kit is preferable to one module of the same total capacity. Leave additional memory headroom for the operating system, voice chat and other applications rather than assuming every 16 GB installation behaves identically.

Storage is a capacity requirement, not a speed benchmark

The Epic and Steam listings specify 15 GB of storage for the demo in both tiers. They do not publish an SSD performance target. An SSD can improve loading and reduce general system friction, but the cited requirements do not provide a measured loading-time advantage or a minimum drive interface.

Published performance targets by play mode

Hardware basis Mode Preset Resolution Frame-rate target
Minimum Local split-screen Low 1080p 30 fps
Recommended Single-player High 1440p 40 fps
Recommended Local split-screen High 1440p 30 fps

The lower split-screen target is intentional in the published table: even at recommended specifications, the target is 30 fps rather than the 40 fps listed for single-player. That difference is useful when choosing hardware. A PC that is comfortable at high 1440p solo play should not automatically be expected to sustain the same frame rate in local co-op.

How to check whether your PC meets the demo requirement

  1. Confirm Windows architecture. Open Settings, choose System, then About, and check that the system type is a 64-bit operating system. The cited demo listings specify Windows 10 x64 at minimum and Windows 11 x64 for the recommended tier.
  2. Check the processor model. In the same About page, read the processor name. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, open Task Manager, and select the Performance tab to verify the CPU model and current utilization.
  3. Check total and channel memory. In Task Manager’s Performance and Memory view, verify at least 16 GB. For dual-channel confirmation, use the motherboard firmware or a trusted hardware-information utility; Windows’ basic summary may show capacity without clearly identifying channel mode.
  4. Identify the active GPU and its dedicated memory. Task Manager’s Performance tab lists the GPU model. Match it against the GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 8 GB minimum class, or the RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT recommended class. On a laptop, make sure the game is assigned to the discrete GPU rather than integrated graphics.
  5. Check free storage. Keep at least 15 GB free on the installation drive. Leaving extra space is sensible because Windows, shader caches and updates also need working room, although the listing itself states 15 GB.
  6. Install current graphics drivers. Use the driver package supplied by your GPU manufacturer and restart before testing. This is a troubleshooting step, not an additional Hela requirement.
  7. Start with the matching target. If your computer is near minimum, select 1080p, the low preset and a 30-fps target, particularly for split-screen. If it is near the recommended tier, begin with high at 1440p and use 40 fps for solo or 30 fps for split-screen.

The available documentation does not provide a complete list of every graphics-menu option or a benchmark chart for hardware between the two tiers. If a setting is not present in your build, do not assume that an external guide’s menu path applies to this demo version.

Split-screen, online co-op and controller support

Steam lists single-player, online co-op and local shared or split-screen co-op. It also lists full controller support and says the developers recommend playing with a controller. A controller is therefore the safest choice for couch co-op and avoids relying on keyboard-sharing arrangements.

Planning a local session

  • Use the minimum target only as a 1080p, low-preset, 30-fps split-screen baseline.
  • For high-preset 1440p split-screen, use the recommended CPU and GPU class as the published reference point.
  • Connect and test each controller before launching the session so the game can assign player inputs correctly.
  • Expect split-screen to have a lower published frame-rate target than solo play at the recommended tier.

The listings confirm controller support and the multiplayer modes, but they do not specify a maximum local-player count in the cited material. Do not infer a particular number of simultaneous local players from the phrase “split-screen.”

Why the official website shows much lower requirements

The Hela official website displays a separate table with Windows 10 64-bit, 4 GB of RAM, an RX 560 and 4 GB of storage as minimum values. Its recommended row lists Windows 11 64-bit, 5 GB of RAM, an RX 560 and a 4 GB SSD. Those figures conflict with the dated demo-specific Epic Games Store and Steam listings.

For a PC purchase, upgrade or “can I run it?” decision, use the Epic demo table and the matching Steam specifications. The website table may describe an earlier build, a broader product scope or an unmaintained requirement set; the available page does not explain the discrepancy.

Practical settings and troubleshooting

If you are near minimum hardware

Choose 1080p and the low preset first. For local split-screen, use the explicitly published 30-fps target. Close unnecessary launchers, browsers and recording applications, then test a complete scene rather than judging performance from a menu. If frame delivery remains inconsistent, reduce resolution or other available quality controls before increasing anything.

If you meet the recommended tier

Begin at high, 1440p. Use the 40-fps target for single-player and the 30-fps target for split-screen, matching the published table. If your monitor refreshes at 60 Hz, a stable 30 or 40 fps can be preferable to an unstable higher number. The requirements do not state that every display mode or frame-rate cap is available, so use the closest option exposed by your build.

If performance is unexpectedly poor

  • Verify that the game is using the discrete GPU, especially on a laptop.
  • Check that the memory is running in dual-channel mode and that no module has become disabled.
  • Update the GPU driver and restart the computer.
  • Watch CPU and GPU utilization, temperatures and clock speeds while playing; thermal throttling can make a qualifying PC behave below its nominal class.
  • Reduce resolution or preset, then retest in the same area and game mode.
  • For split-screen, troubleshoot against the 30-fps target rather than the 40-fps solo target.

SteamDB records the demo release on October 8, 2026 and detects Unreal Engine along with AMD FSR- and NVIDIA DLSS-related software development kits. The cited pages do not document which upscaling or reconstruction controls are actually exposed in the user-facing graphics menu, so do not assume those options are selectable until you see them in your installation.

Should you upgrade before playing?

Upgrade decisions should follow the mode and resolution you actually intend to use:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • 1080p, low, mostly solo: A system around the published minimum is the appropriate starting point, provided it has 16 GB dual-channel RAM and the listed GPU class.
  • 1080p split-screen: Budget around the same minimum tier, but use the explicit low-preset, 30-fps expectation. More powerful hardware can provide headroom, yet no intermediate benchmark is published.
  • 1440p high, solo: Treat the RTX 3070/RX 6700 XT and i7-12700K/Ryzen 7 7800X3D combination as the evidence-based target for 40 fps.
  • 1440p high, split-screen: Use the same recommended class, while planning around 30 fps rather than solo’s 40-fps target.

If your PC falls below the minimum in both CPU and GPU, upgrading only one component may leave the other as the limiting part. Compare the graphics class first, then processor capability, and preserve 16 GB dual-channel memory as the baseline.

Bottom line for “Can my PC run the Hela demo?”

Use the dated Epic Games Store and Steam demo listings, not the much lower general website table. A Windows 10 64-bit PC with an i5-8600K or Ryzen 5 2600, 16 GB dual-channel RAM and a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 8 GB is the current minimum reference. Expect 1080p low at 30 fps for minimum split-screen. For high 1440p, the published recommended reference is an i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D with an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT, targeting 40 fps solo or 30 fps split-screen.
