It is a self-contained adventure on a bespoke forest map, not a clearly identified cut-down section of the main campaign. You restore a witch’s protective magic, collect glimmer, test the Froggy backpack, and solve environmental puzzles either alone or in two-player local split-screen.
Save transfer to the full game has not been announced. The demo confirms Hela’s relaxed, non-combat design and its Shade System for solo play, but a complete list of formal accessibility settings is not published. The full game is planned for December 1, 2026, with a larger open world, Brewing and Remedies, more quests, and online co-op for up to four players.

How long does the Hela demo take?
The only published playtime estimate located for the demo is 30–60 minutes from Inven Global in 2026. That is a reported estimate, not a completion-time guarantee from the developer. Players who move directly through the objective should land near the shorter end; those who inspect the environment, test movement options, and experiment with puzzles can spend longer.
The Xbox listing describes the demo as “a small, self-contained introduction to Hela.” That wording matters: the demo uses a bespoke map created for this preview rather than being identified as a shortened chapter of the full campaign. Finishing it gives you a contained story beat and a practical introduction to the game’s interaction model, not a measured portion of the eventual open world.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What you do during those 30–60 minutes
- Restore the witch’s protective magic. This is the demo’s central objective and gives the session a clear beginning and end.
- Explore the forest area. The setting draws on Northern Sweden, with environmental spaces designed for discovery rather than combat encounters.
- Gather glimmer. You collect enough of this resource to return to the witch’s cottage.
- Use the Froggy backpack. It helps gather items, interact with objects, solve environmental puzzles, and uncover movement possibilities.
- Test solutions rather than fight through them. The demo is built around traversal, cooperation, and environmental problem-solving.
Because the map is self-contained, the demo is best understood as a compact systems introduction. It lets you judge whether Hela’s pace, atmosphere, puzzle approach, and cooperation design suit you without requiring a long campaign commitment.
Can you play the Hela demo solo or in split-screen?
Yes. The demo supports both solo play and two-player local split-screen. You do not need another player to see the core experience: the Shade System is specifically intended to let a solo player handle challenges that may be designed around several characters.
How the Shade System supports solo play
The official developer FAQ says solo players can create magical copies, called shades, to assist with puzzles and interaction with the world. Xbox Wire describes the system as a way to handle puzzle and traversal challenges designed for multiple characters without requiring a human partner.

This is more than a simple difficulty reduction. The design keeps the same broad cooperation premise while giving one player a way to coordinate the required actions. The available descriptions do not specify every shade control, timing rule, or puzzle type, so the demo is the place to learn how the system feels in practice.

What local split-screen means here
Local co-op is limited to two players in the demo. Both players share the same local session and work through the forest objective together. The listing does not describe online multiplayer for the demo; online co-op is identified as a full-game feature instead.
If a second-player option does not appear, check that the platform recognizes a second compatible controller and that you are launching the local multiplayer mode rather than a solo session. The available documentation does not provide a platform-specific setup path, so menu labels may differ between PC and console versions.
Does Hela demo progress carry over to the full game?
Save transfer has not been announced. No searched official source—the Xbox listing, Steam pages, or developer FAQ—states that demo saves, unlocks, collectibles, or other progress will carry into the full release.

This status can change if the developer publishes a later account-linking or entitlement policy. Until an official announcement gives specific instructions, avoid treating screenshots, achievements, or a completed demo save as evidence of transfer support.
What accessibility features are confirmed?
Hela’s confirmed accessibility-related design choices are primarily about how the game is played. The official FAQ says there is no traditional combat and presents the game as a relaxed exploration and cooperation experience. That removes a conventional combat loop, but it does not by itself establish the presence of any particular accessibility setting.
Confirmed features
- No traditional combat: the demo focuses on exploration, traversal, gathering, and environmental puzzles.
- Solo support: the Shade System lets one player create magical copies to assist with challenges intended for multiple characters.
- Controller support on Steam: Steam lists full controller support.
- Flexible pacing: the developer FAQ describes an open-world, nonlinear full game in which players can explore at their own pace.
What has not been documented
The searched sources do not publish a complete inventory for subtitles, text-size controls, key remapping, color-vision modes, audio sliders, high-contrast presentation, difficulty choices, or other formal accessibility options. It would be inaccurate to claim that any of those settings are included until the developer or platform documentation lists them.
Players who rely on a specific feature should check the final platform listing and the in-game options menu before purchase. “No combat” and “full controller support” are useful indicators of the intended experience, but they do not replace confirmation of a particular sensory, motor, or cognitive setting.

What does the full Hela game add?
The demo is intentionally narrow. The Xbox demo page identifies several features planned for the full game that are absent from the preview.
| Area | Demo | Full game plan |
|---|---|---|
| World scope | Bespoke forest map made for the demo | A much larger open world |
| Story and activities | One self-contained objective centered on restoring protective magic | Richer story, more quests, and more acts of kindness |
| Systems | Gathering, traversal, environmental puzzles, and the Froggy backpack | Brewing and Remedies added to the progression loop |
| Multiplayer | Solo or two-player local split-screen | Solo, local split-screen, and online co-op for up to four players |
| Progress continuity | Demo-to-full-game transfer not announced | Full-game progression is separate from any unconfirmed demo carry-over |
Open-world structure and story
The developer FAQ describes Hela as open-world and nonlinear. You can explore at your own pace rather than following one mandatory route through every activity. Despite that freedom, the FAQ says the journey leads to a handcrafted ending that remains the same for every player. The available information therefore points to flexible exploration around a shared narrative destination, not branching endings based on different choices.
Brewing and Remedies
Gathering ingredients and brewing Remedies form the full game’s central progression. Xbox Wire says Remedies expand movement, puzzle-solving, and environmental interaction. In practical terms, the system is intended to open new ways to move through spaces and respond to obstacles, rather than functioning as a combat upgrade tree.

Every puzzle is designed to be completable solo, even when its actions may be easier to coordinate with other players. That distinction explains how the full game can support both solo exploration and cooperative play without making online partners mandatory for story progress.

Online co-op scale
The full release adds online co-op for up to four players. Local split-screen remains available, and solo play remains supported through the same cooperative design principles introduced by the Shade System. The demo itself should not be used to infer that four-player online sessions are already available; that capability is listed among the full-game additions.
When and where will Hela release?
Microids lists December 1, 2026 as the planned release date for Hela: of Mice & Magic. Announced platforms are:
- PC
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
As with any planned date, availability can be changed by the publisher. The date above is the announced schedule, not a guarantee that every regional storefront will use identical release timing.
Digital and physical editions
Microids has announced a limited physical Harmony Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. It includes an outer box, a reversible poster showing the game map, and exclusive stickers.
Xbox Series S and PC are described as digital-only. That means owners of those platforms should not expect the announced physical Harmony Edition to be sold for their hardware. The available announcement does not state a separate physical edition for Xbox Series S or PC.
Should you play the demo?
The demo is useful if you want a quick, low-commitment test of Hela’s core identity. It answers several practical questions in one short session: whether the non-combat exploration feels appealing, whether the Froggy backpack interactions make sense to you, whether you enjoy environmental puzzles, and whether the Shade System makes solo cooperation comfortable.
- Play it for the atmosphere: the setting is a Northern Sweden-inspired forest designed around discovery.
- Play it to test solo design: the demo’s Shade System demonstrates how one player can handle multi-character challenges.
- Play it with a local partner: two-player split-screen is supported in the demo.
- Do not play it expecting a campaign save bonus: carry-over has not been confirmed.
- Use it to judge scope carefully: the demo’s compact bespoke map does not represent the full open-world size.
Players primarily interested in online four-person co-op will need to wait for the full release, because that feature is listed as a full-game addition rather than a demo capability.
