The official Steam listing, accessed October 16, 2026, gives a Windows minimum of Windows 10, an Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB of RAM, integrated graphics such as Intel HD 3000, DirectX 11 and 300 MB of free storage. Its recommended Windows tier raises that to a Core i3, 8 GB of RAM and a dedicated GPU such as an NVIDIA GTX 650. The same CPU, memory and graphics tiers are listed for SteamOS/Linux, which makes Steam Deck a plausible target.
That does not establish a Steam Deck Verified or Playable badge. The captured store page shows Linux requirements and full controller support, but no title-specific compatibility badge, and the game is still planned for December 2026. Treat the figures as the current published requirements, not a guarantee of final-release performance. Check the Steam page and recent player reports again near launch.

What the Windows PC requirements mean
Minimum Windows configuration
The minimum Windows line is unusually light for a 2026 release because it reaches back to a Core 2 Duo, four gigabytes of memory and integrated Intel HD 3000-class graphics. You still need 64-bit-capable Windows 10 support in practice, DirectX 11, and enough free space for the 300 MB installation footprint listed by Steam. The minimum tier is best understood as an entry point for launching the game, not as evidence that every scene will have identical responsiveness on old hardware.
Integrated graphics share system memory with the processor. If your computer has an older integrated GPU, close browser tabs and other memory-heavy applications before launching. Updating the graphics driver and Windows can also prevent startup failures caused by missing DirectX components, although those maintenance steps do not raise the machine above the developer’s published specification.
Recommended Windows configuration
The recommended tier moves to a Core i3, 8 GB of RAM and a dedicated GTX 650-class GPU while keeping Windows 10, DirectX 11 and the same 300 MB storage figure. That shift matters most for graphics headroom and multitasking: a dedicated GPU has its own memory and generally avoids the bandwidth constraints of older integrated graphics. The listing does not promise a particular resolution, frame rate or quality preset at this level, so do not read “recommended” as a benchmark result.

How to check a Windows PC
- Open Settings > System > About and note the processor model, installed RAM and Windows edition.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, open Task Manager, choose Performance, and inspect the CPU, Memory and GPU entries. This distinguishes integrated graphics from a separate graphics card.
- Press Windows+R, type
dxdiag, and select the Display tab to confirm the graphics device and DirectX information. - Open Settings > System > Storage and verify that at least 300 MB is free on the drive used for the Steam library. Leave additional working room for Steam updates and shader caches rather than treating the published footprint as a sensible disk reserve.
Steam Deck compatibility: what is known and what is not
Why the requirements look encouraging
Valve describes Steam Deck as a portable gaming PC, and its SteamOS environment fits the same Linux family represented in the listing. Heidi’s Legacy’s SteamOS/Linux minimum and recommended rows match the Windows CPU, memory, graphics and storage tiers. The game’s SteamDB metadata also records full controller support and support for Windows, macOS and Linux: SteamDB app configuration.
That combination makes the game a credible candidate for Deck play, particularly because the published storage footprint is small and the design is a cozy narrative simulation rather than a visually intensive action title. It remains an inference from the listed specifications, not a test result. No independent frame-rate measurement is established here.
Why you should not assume Verified status
Valve’s Steam Deck Verified program checks practical factors including default-resolution support, default settings and legible text. The accessed store page did not display a title-specific Verified or Playable badge. A game can run while still lacking a badge, and a badge can change as developers update builds. Check the compatibility panel on the game’s Steam page immediately before installing or buying, then look for current user reports after the demo or final build receives updates.

Deck checks to perform
- Open the game’s Steam store page on the Deck or in the Steam client and read the compatibility section rather than relying on the Linux requirements alone.
- Confirm that the device has room for the game and future updates in Settings > Storage. The listing’s 300 MB figure is the stated game footprint for SteamOS/Linux, not a recommended amount of free space for the entire device.
- Use the downloadable demo as a practical compatibility check when available on your account. Test controls, text readability, suspend/resume and any graphics options you expect to use.
- If a build behaves unexpectedly, record the SteamOS version, Proton or native runtime shown by Steam, display settings and controller behavior when reporting the problem. Those details help separate a game issue from a device configuration issue.
macOS requirements and Apple Silicon support
The macOS listing has a separate memory and storage profile. Minimum support starts at macOS 11, an Intel Core i5 or Apple M1, 8 GB of RAM, Intel Iris or AMD Radeon Pro graphics and 400 MB of storage. The recommended row asks for macOS 12 or newer, an Apple M1 or Intel Core i7, 16 GB of RAM, an Apple Silicon GPU or AMD Radeon Pro 5300M, and the same 400 MB storage figure.
Recommended Free Tools
Apple Silicon owners should pay attention to the distinction between an M1-class minimum and the recommended Apple Silicon GPU wording. Intel Mac owners should compare both the processor generation and the specific graphics hardware; “Intel Mac” alone is not enough to establish eligibility. The store listing does not identify every supported Mac model or specify whether a particular build is native, translated or hybrid, so use the demo and the store’s current notes as the final check.
Storage, memory and graphics: the practical bottlenecks
Storage is not likely to be the limiting factor
Steam lists 300 MB for Windows and SteamOS/Linux and 400 MB for macOS. Those are tiny installation footprints, but an operating system needs free working space for downloads, updates and temporary files. Installing to a nearly full drive can cause Steam to fail even when the nominal requirement fits, so keep a cushion beyond the stated figure.

- 512 GB NVMe SSD: Fast storage for quicker game load times and space for larger game libraries.
- OLED Display: 1200x800 resolution with deep contrasts and vibrant colors for a captivating visual experience.
- Custom AMD APU: Power-efficient Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU for desktop-level gaming performance.
- Expandable Storage: Add more space with a microSD card slot, ensuring you can bring even more games with you.
- Versatile Controls: With built-in thumbsticks, trackpads, and touchscreen controls, you have full control over your gaming experience.
Memory affects the margin around the game
The Windows and SteamOS/Linux recommendations double the minimum memory from 4 GB to 8 GB. On an older machine, that extra capacity is useful when Steam, a browser, voice chat or accessibility tools remain open. macOS starts at 8 GB and recommends 16 GB, reflecting the larger memory margin specified for that platform.
Graphics determine how much visual headroom you have
The minimum rows name integrated graphics, while the recommended rows name dedicated GPUs. This is the clearest hardware distinction in the PC table. Integrated graphics can be sufficient for the intended minimum configuration, but they borrow system memory and vary greatly between generations. A dedicated GPU offers a more predictable graphics budget, yet the listing does not state a target resolution, refresh rate or quality preset, so no honest FPS promise can be derived from the parts list.
Release status, demo and platform metadata
Steam currently lists the full game for a planned December 2026 release. The full version is not yet available, but a downloadable demo is offered on the store page. The page identifies Humble Reeds as developer and publisher and Vsoo Games (China) as an additional publisher. SteamDB records the title as prerelease, with app ID 3589430 and full controller support.
Best Value
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
The store description calls it “a cozy narrative sim where you care for goats, craft mountain goods, and help villagers rebuild their lives.” Its systems include branching dialogue, relationships, goat care, crafting, exploration, fishing and village rebuilding. Because development is ongoing, the requirements can change before the December launch; the demo is useful evidence of current behavior, not a binding specification for the final build.
Why the requirements may change before launch
Developer updates say the team moved from Godot Forward+ to Compatibility mode to support a wider range of systems and reported that the demo ran more smoothly on more machines afterward. That is a developer account of an implementation change, not an independently measured performance comparison. Read future updates in the game’s official Steam news feed for changes to rendering, operating-system support or controller behavior.
A rendering-mode change can alter compatibility without changing the headline CPU or RAM numbers. Conversely, late content, updated drivers or platform-specific fixes can affect the final experience while leaving the store panel unchanged. Recheck the listing after launch rather than archiving today’s table as permanent.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsQuick decision guide
- Older Windows laptop or desktop: Compare the processor and integrated GPU against the minimum row, update Windows and graphics drivers, and use the demo before committing to the full release.
- Modern Windows PC with a dedicated GPU: Meeting or exceeding the recommended row gives the most hardware margin, but the store does not publish a guaranteed frame rate.
- Steam Deck owner: The matching SteamOS/Linux tiers and full controller support are encouraging; verify the current badge and test the demo because a title-specific Verified status is not established.
- Mac owner: Check both macOS version and whether the machine is Intel or Apple Silicon, then compare memory and graphics with the separate Mac rows.
Bottom line for buyers and demo players
On paper, Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling is a lightweight PC game: the Windows and SteamOS/Linux minimums reach back to Core 2 Duo-era hardware, and the listed storage footprint is only 300 MB. The recommended tier remains modest at a Core i3, 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 650-class dedicated GPU. Steam Deck is a reasonable possibility because its Linux requirements align and controller support is listed, but no title-specific Verified or Playable badge is confirmed. With the full release planned for December 2026 and a demo available now, the safest approach is to compare your hardware with the official table, test the demo on your device and recheck Steam’s compatibility information as development continues.
