Buy the Steam base game if you only want to play, choose the Steam game-and-soundtrack bundle if you want the music, and choose the Xbox Play Anywhere release if you need an Xbox, PC and handheld entitlement. Heavy Metal Death Can is a digital, single-player survival-horror game; the documented choices differ mainly by storefront access and soundtrack packaging, not by campaign content.
Edition choices at a glance
The official digital listings available on October 18, 2026, show three meaningful ways to buy Heavy Metal Death Can. The table separates what you receive from the platform commitment each option makes.

| Option | What you receive | Best fit | Important qualification |

| Steam base game | Complete digital game | Players who want the game without extras | Requires a Steam account and a compatible Windows, macOS or SteamOS/Linux computer |
| Steam game + soundtrack bundle | Heavy Metal Death Can and the separate Heavy Metal Death Can Soundtrack | Players who want the music with the game | The soundtrack is a digital item, not a documented CD or vinyl release |
| Xbox Play Anywhere | Digital Xbox Series X|S edition with the Play Anywhere entitlement for PC and handheld access | Xbox owners who move between supported devices | Price and availability can vary by region |
| Cross-game Steam bundle | Heavy Metal Death Can paired with another listed game, such as Ground Zero or Vultures – Scavengers of Death | Buyers who also want one of those separate games | This is a multi-game discount package, not an upgraded Heavy Metal Death Can edition |
Steam’s listing showed the base game at $17.50 on October 18, 2026. The Steam game-and-soundtrack bundle was listed at $18.44, while the soundtrack could also be purchased separately for $2.99. These are snapshot prices in US dollars; discounts, taxes, currency conversion and regional listings can change the amount you see at checkout.
What Heavy Metal Death Can is
Heavy Metal Death Can is a retro-inspired survival-horror game from Krufs Productions. Its story places you aboard the submarine HMS Domherren in an alternate late-1970s Swedish setting. The vessel is trapped in the Norwegian Sea, and an investigation into the Domherren incident leads to the Sludge and a crew affected by possession.

It is a single-player game built around fixed camera angles, scarce ammunition and constrained inventory space. Those systems make route planning and item choices part of the horror: carrying one object can mean leaving another behind, and spending ammunition is a decision rather than a routine action. The same core digital game is sold through the documented Steam and Xbox channels; no edition-specific campaign, character or difficulty tier is listed.
The Steam release arrived on May 28, 2026. Steam lists achievements, cloud saves and family sharing alongside the game, so those features are tied to the Steam ecosystem rather than being separate paid editions.
Steam base game: the straightforward choice
What is included
The base listing contains the complete Heavy Metal Death Can game. There is no indication that it is a trial, chapter-based release or “standard” version missing a story expansion. If your priority is playing the campaign, this is the uncomplicated purchase.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWho should choose it
- Choose it when you already use Steam and do not specifically want the soundtrack.
- Choose it when your budget is limited and you would rather decide about the music later.
- Choose it when Steam features such as cloud saves, achievements or family sharing matter to your household.
Compatibility to verify
The Steam listing names Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux support. No processor, graphics-memory or storage figures are published in the Steam listing, so do not infer a performance guarantee from the operating-system labels alone. Check the current Steam system-requirements panel for your hardware before buying, particularly if you intend to use an older Mac, a Linux distribution outside SteamOS, or a handheld running a compatibility layer.
A later Mac/Linux launch and earlier Steam Deck verification updates are recorded in the developer news feed. Verification status and compatibility can change with updates, so treat the current store badge and your device’s operating-system version as the final check.

Steam game-and-soundtrack bundle
What the bundle changes
This package combines the same Heavy Metal Death Can game with the separately listed Heavy Metal Death Can Soundtrack. It is a digital bundle: there is no evidence of a boxed game, printed booklet or physical audio disc being added to the order.
Why it is the value pick for music fans
The bundle was listed at $18.44 on October 18, 2026, only slightly above the $17.50 base listing. If you already know you want the music, buying the combined package avoids purchasing the soundtrack as a second transaction. The soundtrack is also listed as $2.99 of separate digital DLC, which gives base-game buyers a way to add it later if the bundle is unavailable or their preference changes.
What the soundtrack contains
In a developer announcement dated August 26, Toby wrote: “It’s the Heavy Metal Death Can Soundtrack AVAILABLE NOW on Steam, Bandcamp or streaming services!” The announcement describes the album as a chronicle of the Diver’s journey through HMS Domherren and says it includes a 10-hour version of the Save Room Theme.
That wording establishes digital availability on Steam, Bandcamp and streaming services, but it does not establish a CD, cassette, vinyl pressing or collector package. A streaming copy also is not the same entitlement as the Steam soundtrack item: confirm which service or download format you want before paying.
When not to buy the bundle
Skip the bundle if you never listen to game music, if you plan to buy the soundtrack through another service, or if you need a physical keepsake. The bundle does not solve any of those needs because its additional item is digital.

Xbox Play Anywhere edition
What Play Anywhere means here
The Xbox listing covers Xbox Series X|S, PC and handheld access through Xbox Play Anywhere. For a buyer invested in that ecosystem, the key benefit is the entitlement: one digital purchase is intended to follow the account across the supported Xbox and Windows devices covered by the listing.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Who benefits most
- Xbox Series X|S owners who also play on a Windows PC.
- Players who want to move between a console and a supported handheld without purchasing a second storefront copy.
- Households already using Xbox accounts, rather than Steam, as their primary library.
Regional checks
Xbox price and availability can vary by region. Sign in to the Microsoft/Xbox storefront for your country and verify that the listing explicitly shows Play Anywhere before purchasing. A PC listing that lacks that label should not be assumed to share the console entitlement.
Play Anywhere also does not imply that every save, achievement or feature is identical to Steam’s implementation. The documented advantage is cross-device access within the Xbox ecosystem; Steam-specific features such as Steam achievements and family sharing belong to the Steam purchase.
Cross-game Steam bundles are not editions
Steam also lists packages pairing Heavy Metal Death Can with Ground Zero or Vultures – Scavengers of Death. These offers package two separately listed digital games. They do not add a deluxe mode, soundtrack, physical item or alternate edition of Heavy Metal Death Can.
Consider one only when you genuinely want the companion game. If your question is which version of Heavy Metal Death Can to buy, compare the base listing and soundtrack bundle first; a cross-game package answers a different shopping need.

Is there a physical or collector’s edition?
No official Heavy Metal Death Can listing documents a physical game, collector’s box, soundtrack CD or vinyl, printed guide, figurine or merchandise edition. The listed products are digital storefront offerings. That means a marketplace listing claiming to be an official disc or collector set needs independent verification from Krufs Productions before you pay.
Do not treat a soundtrack download, a Steam bundle, or a cross-game package as a physical edition. They differ in content and ownership: the first is a digital audio item, the second combines digital game and audio licenses, and the third combines two digital games.

The table distinguishes a stated feature from an assumption. For example, Steam Deck verification appears in developer updates, while the Xbox listing’s handheld wording is tied to Play Anywhere. Neither statement promises identical performance on every model or operating-system build.
Updates that may influence your choice
Language support
An August 28, 2026 localization update added complete Chinese, Russian and Swedish translations, along with bug fixes and improvements to UI input. If you prefer one of those languages, update the game after installation and check the in-game language selector or platform language settings.

Developer news records a later Mac/Linux launch and earlier Steam Deck verification. These changes make Steam more practical for players outside Windows, but they also show why compatibility should be checked at purchase time rather than inferred from an old review or cached store page.
Price and availability changes
The prices and platform availability shown here reflect listings on October 18, 2026 UTC. Store discounts, regional taxes, currency conversion, delisting, and temporary bundle promotions can alter the checkout result. Capture the product name and included items on the final purchase screen if you are comparing offers across storefronts.
How to choose in five steps
- Pick your primary device. If you want Xbox Series X|S plus PC or handheld access under one Xbox entitlement, start with the Xbox Play Anywhere listing. If your library is on Steam, compare the two Steam choices.
- Decide whether you want the soundtrack. Select the bundle when you want the digital album now; select the base game when music is not part of your purchase.
- Check operating-system support. Steam names Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux, but you still need to compare the current requirements with your hardware. Xbox buyers should verify the Play Anywhere label in their region.
- Exclude physical expectations. None of the documented choices supplies a disc, vinyl record, printed guide or collector object.
- Ignore unrelated bundle savings. A package containing Ground Zero or Vultures – Scavengers of Death is worthwhile only if you want that second game.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Assuming “bundle” means deluxe content
The Steam soundtrack bundle adds audio, not a new game mode or story chapter. Read the itemized contents before checkout.
Buying the wrong ecosystem
A Steam license and an Xbox Play Anywhere license are separate platform entitlements. Choose the storefront associated with the device and account where you expect to play; do not assume a Steam purchase unlocks Xbox or that an Xbox purchase appears in your Steam library.
Recommended Free Tools
Expecting a physical soundtrack
The announced album is available digitally through Steam, Bandcamp and streaming services. If you want a disc or record, wait for a separate official announcement rather than relying on an unverified reseller listing.
Overlooking localization and input updates
Install the August 28 update before judging language coverage or controller/UI behavior. The update specifically added Chinese, Russian and Swedish translations and UI-input fixes.
Bottom line
For most Steam users, the base game is the cleanest purchase, while the game-and-soundtrack bundle is the sensible upgrade for anyone who wants the music. Xbox owners who value one entitlement across Xbox Series X|S, PC and handheld should choose the Play Anywhere listing. Treat every option as digital, and do not pay a premium for a supposed physical or collector edition that Krufs Productions has not officially announced.
