Heat: Pedal to the Metal Mobile vs. Physical Board Game: Availability, Rules and Which to Choose

Heat: Pedal to the Metal is available now as a physical board game, while its official digital adaptation is only announced for Steam with a release date listed as “To be announced.” No official iPhone or Android release is confirmed. Buy the board game if you want an immediate 1–6-player tabletop race with included components. Wait for the digital version if online, asynchronous or cross-platform play matters more than having a product today.

What is Heat: Pedal to the Metal?

Heat: Pedal to the Metal is a hand-management racing game rather than a real-time driving simulator. Each player controls a race car, shifts gears, chooses cards from a hand and converts those cards into movement. The central tension is deciding how much speed to take through each corner without filling the car with too much heat or losing control.

Days of Wonder and Asmodee describe the physical game for 1–6 players, ages 10 and up, with an approximately 60-minute playing time. The one-player option uses automated Legends drivers; with a group, the game supports up to six human racers. The design can therefore work as a short family game, a competitive six-player event or a repeatable solo challenge.

Is there a Heat: Pedal to the Metal mobile app?

Not according to the currently documented official information. The announced adaptation is listed on Steam by Mipmap Digital, and Steam gives its release date as “To be announced.” The available official listings do not confirm an iOS or Android storefront page, launch date or supported mobile operating system.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

That distinction matters when you search for “Heat mobile.” A store page, fan project or similarly named racing app is not evidence that the official adaptation is available on a phone. At present, the safe conclusion is:

  • The physical board game is the purchasable format.
  • An official digital adaptation has been announced for Steam.
  • The Steam release date is not set.
  • No official iPhone or Android release is confirmed in the published information.

What the physical edition includes

The official physical product listing identifies the edition as SKU DOW9101. At the time of access, Asmodee USA listed a $74.99 price and marked the item as sold out. That is a list price shown by the publisher’s US listing, not a guarantee of current retailer stock or the price in another country.

The box is a complete racing system rather than a small card game. Its documented contents include:

  • Two double-sided game boards, providing four tracks.
  • Six cars and matching gear pawns.
  • Player mats.
  • Speed, heat, stress, upgrade, sponsorship and Legend cards.
  • Weather and road-condition tokens.
  • Standees.
  • A scorepad.
  • Two rulebooks.

The boards and components make the race state visible to everyone at the table. Players can see car positions, corner limits, heat cards and available upgrades without opening menus or passing a device around. That physical visibility is one of the format’s main advantages for an in-person group.

How a race works in the board game

1. Shift a gear

At the start of each round, a player may shift gears. The selected gear dictates how many cards that player plays during the round. A higher gear offers the possibility of a larger move, but it also reduces flexibility when the car needs to slow down. A lower gear gives more control and can help prepare for a tight corner, at the cost of immediate speed.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

2. Play cards for movement

After the gear decision, the player plays the required number of cards and uses their values to move the car. This is hand management: the question is not simply “What is the biggest number?” but “Which cards can I afford to spend now, and what will remain for the next corner?”

3. Judge corner speed

Each corner has a suggested speed. Exceeding that speed creates overheating risk. The rules frame speed as a temptation: pushing hard can win spaces on the track, but the extra movement may load the car with heat that becomes difficult to clear later.

4. Manage heat and avoid a spin-out

Heat cards represent the cost of driving beyond the car’s comfortable limit. If a player pushes too hard, the car can spin out. The game therefore rewards timing: a successful over-speed move can create an advantage, while an overreach at the wrong moment can leave the car unable to respond to the next section of track.

5. Use upgrades and race conditions

Upgrades, weather and road conditions change how a race develops. They add decisions beyond basic movement, letting players customize how a car handles the course and adapt to conditions that make particular corners or strategies more demanding.

This sequence is why the game feels strategic despite its approachable rules. The rules are easy to explain, but the hand, gear, heat and corner decisions interact over several rounds.

Physical board game versus digital adaptation

Decision point Physical edition Announced digital edition
Current availability Official retail listing exists; the Asmodee USA listing showed the product sold out when checked. Listed on Steam by Mipmap Digital; release date is “To be announced.”
Phone support Works anywhere you can set up the table. No official iOS or Android release is confirmed.
Players Rules support 1–6 players, with Legends automation for solo or additional opponents. Steam lists single-player and multiplayer features, but final launch details are not available.
Online play Requires people to be in the same place unless you arrange your own remote setup. Steam lists online PvP, cross-platform multiplayer and asynchronous multiplayer.
Local play Shared table with physical boards, cards, cars and tokens. Steam lists local multiplayer and shared/split-screen play.
Rules administration Players draw, track heat, move pieces and resolve upgrades manually. A digital implementation would be expected to enforce or calculate these operations, but no hands-on performance claim is established before release.
Replay systems Championship System, pre-race customization, weather and road conditions, and Legends Module. Final campaign, customization and expansion support have not been specified in the available listing.

What the digital version could change

The Steam feature list targets situations the physical game cannot provide by itself. Online PvP is intended for opponents in different locations. Asynchronous multiplayer is suited to players who want to take turns on different schedules rather than finish a 60-minute session simultaneously. Cross-platform multiplayer could allow players on different supported systems to join the same race, although the platforms included at launch remain to be confirmed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Steam also lists solo play, local multiplayer, shared/split-screen play and Remote Play Together. Those labels indicate planned ways to play, not a completed product that can be downloaded today. Until the game launches, there is no reliable basis for judging connection stability, interface quality, turn timing, loading performance, accessibility options or how faithfully the digital rules handle edge cases.

A digital adaptation would likely remove much of the bookkeeping: the program could count played cards, apply movement, track heat and enforce corner rules. That is a reasonable expectation for a licensed implementation, but it should not be presented as a tested result. The official information does not document performance, battery use, controller support or mobile optimization.

Why the physical game remains attractive

Immediate, face-to-face racing

The board game is the only format with a documented product you can set up now. Everyone sees the same track and can discuss the race while handling cards and pieces. The table also makes the game’s racing theme tangible: cars occupy corners, heat accumulates in decks and upgrades sit beside each player’s mat.

A complete set of tracks and systems

Four tracks across two double-sided boards provide variety before any expansion is added. Weather and road-condition tokens alter the race environment, while upgrades and sponsorship cards create reasons to change a preferred strategy from one event to the next.

Solo and group flexibility

The Legends Module adds automated drivers for solo play or extra opponents. That means a single owner does not need to wait for a group, while a larger table can fill empty seats with non-human competitors.

A season rather than one isolated race

The Championship System is designed for a full season. Players can carry the competition across races, make car customizations before each event and treat the results as a continuing tournament rather than a one-off score.

When waiting for digital makes sense

Waiting is rational if your priority is playing with friends who live elsewhere, taking turns asynchronously or using a solo mode without storing a physical setup. The Steam listing specifically names those use cases. It is also sensible to wait if you do not have room for a board, cards and tokens or if you want automatic rule enforcement.

Waiting does not currently give you a firm date. “To be announced” means the timing is unresolved, and the available information does not promise a phone version. If your requirement is specifically an iPhone or Android app, treat the adaptation as unconfirmed rather than assuming the Steam listing will become a mobile release.

Which format should you choose?

Choose the physical board game when:

  • You want to play immediately.
  • Your group can meet around a table.
  • You value tactile components and visible shared information.
  • You want four included tracks, Championship play, upgrades, changing conditions and Legends opponents.
  • You are comfortable managing cards, heat and tokens manually.

Wait for the digital adaptation when:

  • Online, asynchronous or cross-platform play is essential.
  • You prefer local or shared-screen play on a supported computer.
  • You want the software to handle movement and bookkeeping.
  • You can accept an unannounced release date and are willing to verify the final platform list at launch.

Do not buy on the assumption of a mobile release when:

  • You require a confirmed iOS or Android app.
  • You need a guaranteed launch date.
  • You are relying on a third-party listing that does not identify the official adaptation.

Buying and availability notes

The documented US list price is $74.99 for SKU DOW9101, and the official listing was sold out when checked. Stock and street prices can change, so compare the edition, contents and region before purchasing. A listing for an expansion is not a substitute for the base game: the Heat: Legends expansion is an add-on that requires the original game.

If you buy second-hand, check that the two double-sided boards, six cars, gear pawns, player mats, card sets, tokens, standees, scorepad and both rulebooks are present. Missing heat or upgrade cards can materially change the game, so component completeness matters more than cosmetic wear.

Common questions about Heat digital and physical editions
