Heartland is a Netflix thriller starring Jessica Chastain as Misty Jones, a retired country music star who returns to Nashville to investigate the disappearance of her niece, Charlie. Netflix has announced a November 13, 2026 release date; that is a scheduled date, not confirmation that the film is already available.
What is Heartland about?
Misty Jones has been away from Nashville for 20 years when she comes out of seclusion to search for Charlie Heart, her 22-year-old niece and a rising country singer. The investigation draws Misty into the city’s darker side and forces her to confront her own past. Charlie’s boyfriend, Jace, and manager, Roy Combs, are among the people Misty encounters as she tries to find out what happened.

The story makes Misty more than a concerned relative: she is a former country megastar taking on an investigation herself. Netflix categorizes the film as a thriller and lists mystery, investigation and amateur-detective themes alongside country music.

Why does the film mix country music and noir?
Writer-director Shana Feste frames Heartland as a suspense story set in the Nashville music world, rather than a music drama. Netflix describes Feste’s approach as bringing a film-noir lens to country music and a complicated central character. Jessica Chastain performs her own singing for the role, according to Netflix’s trailer announcement.

Music also belongs to the plot and the film’s production. Carter Faith recorded new music for the film, and Netflix says the soundtrack includes original performances by cast members as well as songs by Margo Price, Carly Pearce, Eddy Dunlap, Channing Wilson and Dave “Fergie” Ferguson. The trailer announcement notes that Misty and Winnie Jo Lean perform the title song, “Heartland.”
