Shubham Goyal, a Delhi Technological University (DTU) computer-engineering graduate, finished first in his IIM Ahmedabad MBA batch. As of October 2026, India Today and The Times of India report that he is a Principal Product Manager at Microsoft in Calgary. They say he leads a 13-member team working on enterprise deployment of Microsoft Security solutions. This profile covers what the medal means, how his career moved from engineering to consulting to product management, and what the sources say about his current role.
What the IIM Ahmedabad gold medal represents
Goyal’s own LinkedIn profile lists his MBA at IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA) from 2017 to 2019. It says he held Institute Rank 1 in both the first and second year and finished with Overall Institute Rank 1 in a batch of 393. He lists the gold medal for scholastic performance as received in March 2019.

The medal is not tied to a single exam. His profile describes it as recognising students ranked 1, 2 or 3 overall once the GPAs of both MBA years are combined. The profile also lists a separate first-year gold medal, so the two awards should not be confused.

In his words: “On graduating from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), I had an Overall GPA of 4.00/4.33 which is the Best Overall GPA in an IIMA MBA batch till date (since its inception in 1961). This has been verified by the Manager of MBA program at IIMA.” That is a self-authored statement. The verification is asserted on the profile, and the sources reviewed do not independently document it.

What he does now
India Today and The Times of India both report that since December 2025 he has been a Principal Product Manager in Calgary. They say he leads a 13-member team focused on enterprise deployment of Microsoft Security solutions. That is a different product area from his earlier Copilot work, and the team is smaller than the 19-person group he co-led there.
NDTV, in an interview-based report published 5 October 2026, calls him a Principal Product Lead and describes a product team without mentioning the Security remit. The outlets differ on title and detail, so treat the more specific description as the one reported by India Today and The Times of India. His title and team size may change, so they reflect reporting from early October 2026.
