Renato Moicano said he could call out Ilia Topuria if he beat Tom Nolan at UFC Vegas 123, pitching himself as a possible opponent for Topuria’s return. The idea was Moicano’s suggestion—not a confirmed matchup—and his “easy fight” line was his own speculation about what Topuria might need after a reported loss to Justin Gaethje.
What did Moicano say about fighting Topuria?
In an interview published October 2, 2026, Moicano said he had several names in mind for a post-fight callout if he won against Nolan. Topuria was one possibility. Moicano framed the idea with the line, “He needs an easy fight, right?” and suggested a confidence-building matchup could help Topuria return to form.

That was Moicano’s opinion, not an established account of Topuria’s mindset. Moicano also acknowledged the challenge, calling a fight with Topuria “a fucking tough fight.” His other qualification was straightforward: “I think that fight would make sense. I don’t know if the UFC will make it happen.” MMA Fighting’s interview reported the remarks.
Was Moicano vs. Topuria official?
No booking or UFC approval was reported. As of the October 2 interview, MMA Fighting said Topuria did not have a UFC fight booked, and Moicano said he did not know whether the promotion would make the matchup. The interview also mentioned Moicano’s speculation that Topuria could instead be matched with Paddy Pimblett; it confirmed neither possibility.

Why was Moicano talking about a post-fight callout?
Moicano was preparing to face Tom Nolan in the main event of UFC Vegas 123. MMA Fighting reported that Moicano had been pulled from UFC 331 after his original opponent, Brian Ortega, withdrew because of a cut. The Topuria idea was conditional on Moicano winning against Nolan, not a statement that the fight had already been arranged.
What was the context for the “comeback” pitch?
MMA Fighting’s report said Topuria had been 17–0 in MMA before a reported knockout loss to Justin Gaethje, and that he had won his first nine UFC bouts, finishing seven. Those figures are as reported in the interview story; they are not independently verified here against an official UFC record. Moicano used the reported loss as context for his confidence-building suggestion, but the claim that Topuria needed an easier opponent remained Moicano’s assessment.
