Haunted by Daylight is not a separate game mode built around a second map in 2026. It is a temporary Halloween rules layer applied to ordinary Dead by Daylight Trials. The normal generator, chase, hook, escape and sacrifice framework remains the match context, while Void Portals, roaming Void Haunts, Void Energy and role-specific event abilities are added on top.

The biggest practical differences are map movement and resource management. Paired portals create teleport routes, players can open more routes through Void Rifts, Haunts add another roaming threat, and both roles collect Void Energy to unlock abilities. Survivors begin with Void Crystals, while Killers can launch Haunts and use faster Empowered Breaks. The old explorable Void Tile is not part of the current version.

Haunted by Daylight and a regular Trial at a glance

A regular Trial uses the standard map, objectives, Killer power and perk interactions without a seasonal Void system. Haunted by Daylight keeps those foundations but adds a second layer of decisions: whether to take event actions, how to spend Void Energy and how to account for portals and Haunts during a chase.

Match element Regular Trial Haunted by Daylight 2026
Map movement No seasonal portal network. Paired Void Portals provide teleport routes. Opening a Void Rift can create another pair, and an opened pair remains available for the rest of that Trial.
Additional threats The Killer, their power, perks and normal map hazards. Roaming Void Haunts seek Survivors and can create Hindered effects in addition to the normal threats.
Resource loop No Void Energy economy. Both roles collect Void Energy through event interactions and ordinary Trial actions, then spend it on event abilities.
Survivor tools Standard equipment, perks and map interactions. Survivors start with Void Crystals. Those crystals can be used to make Smoke Bombs or placed on a Generator for remote repair.
Killer tools Normal Killer power and map interactions. Killers can launch Void Haunts and perform Empowered Breaks that destroy objects faster.
Progression Normal match progression and any currently available non-event rewards. Event Tome challenges, Halloween cosmetics and time-limited login rewards may be available while the event is active.

The official 10.2.1 notes describe these mechanics as systems inside Trials, not as a replacement objective structure. That means generators still need to be completed, Survivors still need to escape or be sacrificed, and the Killer still wins by applying the normal pressure of Dead by Daylight while using the event layer intelligently.

How the 2026 event layer works

Void Portals change rotations and information

Void Portals are paired entry points that add routes across the existing map. They do not turn the match into a separate Void Realm. A portal pair gives players another way to reposition, break line of sight or arrive near an objective. It also creates a new information problem: a Survivor who appears to have escaped a loop may still be reachable through a portal, and a Killer can use the network to intercept a rotation that would be safe on the ordinary version of the map.

More pairs can be opened by interacting with Void Rifts. Once a pair is opened, it remains available for the rest of that Trial. This persistence makes early portal decisions matter. Opening a route near a frequently used generator, a strong tile or an escape-side rotation can affect every later chase rather than only the interaction that created it.

Void Haunts add a roaming hazard

Void Haunts move around the map and seek Survivors. They are an event threat layered over the Killer’s usual power, not a replacement Killer. Their presence can force a Survivor away from a repair position, disrupt a planned loop or produce a Hindered effect that makes a normal escape route less reliable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because Haunts are independent of the ordinary generator-and-chase rhythm, players must watch for two kinds of pressure at once. A Survivor may be dealing with the Killer’s direct approach while also needing to avoid a Haunt, and a Killer can use the resulting displacement to make a chase or patrol more efficient. The exact timing, range and duration of individual effects are not established in the available official material, so treat the Haunt as an extra danger rather than relying on an assumed cooldown or distance.

Void Energy is the second economy

Both roles can collect Void Energy through event interactions and ordinary Trial actions. The energy is then spent on event abilities. This creates a choice that does not exist in a regular Trial: take time to interact with event systems for a tactical advantage, or remain focused on generators, patrols and chases.

The current system removes a major piece of older event friction. The 10.2.1 patch notes state that players no longer need to craft in the Void to gain Event Abilities. In practical terms, abilities unlock as soon as the required amount of energy has been collected; there is no separate trip to a Void crafting station described for the current version.

What Survivors get during Haunted by Daylight

Void Crystals from the start

Survivors start with Void Crystals during the current event. A crystal can be used to create a Smoke Bomb or placed on a Generator to provide remote repair. These options support different situations rather than a single mandatory build.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Smoke Bomb: Use the crystal for a temporary concealment or chase-disruption option when breaking the Killer’s information is more valuable than adding repair progress.
  • Remote Generator repair: Place the crystal on a Generator when you need to contribute while staying away from the immediate repair location or when approaching the generator would expose you to the Killer or a Haunt.
  • Timing: Decide whether the next chase, patrol or generator contest is likely to benefit more from misdirection or remote progress. Spending the crystal immediately is not automatically correct.

The official notes identify the two uses but do not publish a universal range, duration, repair amount or Smoke Bomb effect value in the supplied material. Do not plan around figures from an older event or assume that a crystal behaves like a conventional item with the same rules in every year.

Survivor event priorities

  1. Read the opening layout. Identify nearby portals, Void Rifts and generators before committing to an unsafe route. A portal pair can change which direction is genuinely open.
  2. Collect energy during useful actions. Event interactions and ordinary Trial actions both contribute to the resource loop. Avoid abandoning a high-value generator or rescue solely to farm energy when the Killer is already applying pressure.
  3. Spend with a purpose. Use Smoke Bombs to change the conditions of a chase or use remote repair to maintain progress while reducing exposure. The benefit is tactical, not a separate win condition.
  4. Track Haunt pressure. A route that is safe from the Killer may still lead into a roaming Haunt or a Hindered effect. Keep an alternate path available when moving between objectives.
  5. Reassess after portals open. Because opened pairs remain for the rest of the Trial, the safest generator rotation can change after another player creates a route.

What Killers get during Haunted by Daylight

Launching Void Haunts

Killers can launch Void Haunts. This gives the Killer a way to add pressure without standing at the same location as the Survivor. A launched Haunt can make a survivor abandon a position, create a Hindered situation or narrow the choices available during a chase.

Use the ability to complement the Killer’s normal power rather than treating it as a substitute. A Haunt is most valuable when it changes a decision the Survivor was about to make: leaving a generator, taking a particular side of a loop or rotating toward what would ordinarily be a safe tile. The source material does not establish a universal launch range, travel time or damage rule, so those details should be learned from the in-game event UI rather than inferred from prior years.

Empowered Breaks accelerate map damage

Killers can perform Empowered Breaks to destroy objects faster. The benefit applies to the ordinary breakable-object pressure that shapes a chase, but the event version can reduce the time spent removing a pallet or other breakable obstacle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Faster breaks are especially relevant when combined with the portal network. Removing a strong obstacle and then using a portal route can make a previously expensive rotation easier to repeat. However, spending time on an Empowered Break still has an opportunity cost: a Survivor may be repairing elsewhere, opening a Rift or moving through a portal while the Killer commits to the object.

Killer event priorities

  1. Use portals as interception routes. Watch where Survivors are likely to rotate after a chase or unhook, then use the paired network to cut off the route rather than following the most obvious path.
  2. Launch Haunts to create movement. Pressure a survivor’s intended position so the normal Killer approach becomes stronger. A Haunt that causes no meaningful relocation may be less valuable than one that forces a bad transition.
  3. Choose Empowered Breaks selectively. Break objects faster when doing so improves the next chase or removes a repeated defensive resource. Do not assume every break is worth the time.
  4. Protect the energy economy. Collect energy through normal pressure and event interactions without allowing generators or rescues to progress unchecked. The event ability is an advantage, not a replacement for patrol discipline.
  5. Remember that the old Void rules do not apply. The current event is played on the normal Trial structure, so standard information, hook and generator priorities remain important.

Is the Void still explorable?

Not in the old standalone sense. Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight 10.2.1 patch notes state: “The Void Tile from previous years is no longer accessible, however Void Portals and Void Haunts are present in all trials.” The 2026 event therefore uses Void features inside the ordinary map rather than sending players into a large separate explorable space.

This distinction matters because many older guides describe a different ruleset. In the 2024 event guide, the Void Realm had no Generators but did contain Hooks, Pallets, Breakable Walls, Lockers and Chests. The Killer had no Terror Radius in that realm, and an injured Survivor became Exhausted and Broken there. Those descriptions are historical and should not be used as instructions for the current event.

The resource system also changed. Older events required depositing Void Energy into a Void Well to craft a Void Crystal for Survivors or a Captured Haunt for Killers. The current notes explicitly say players no longer need to craft in the Void; collecting enough energy unlocks Event Abilities directly.

Rewards, Tome progress and dates

What the event can add

Official event coverage describes Event Tome challenges, Halloween cosmetics and time-limited login rewards. These are additional progression opportunities attached to the seasonal layer and are not available in a plain non-event Trial in the same form.

A Behaviour Interactive guide for the 2025 event listed Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards and Dark Trinkets among daily rewards during the October 14-November 4, 2025 event window. Those dates and reward listings apply to that 2025 event; they are not evidence that the 2026 event uses the same schedule or quantities. Check the in-game event panel for the active year’s dates and reward track.

Older Void rewards are not current guarantees

An earlier 2022 guide described a Halloween cosmetic for depositing 30 Void Energy in one Trial. That threshold is a historical example, not a confirmed requirement for the 2026 version. Likewise, earlier events awarded cosmetics for depositing energy and completing matches, but a previous reward condition should not be treated as a current objective unless the active Tome or event interface shows it.

Haunted by Daylight or a regular Trial?

If you want to… Better queue to choose Reason
Practice the ordinary map, Killer power or perk interaction without seasonal variables Regular Trial There is no portal network, roaming Haunt or Void Energy decision to account for.
Complete event Tome challenges or pursue seasonal rewards Haunted by Daylight The event layer supplies the relevant challenges and time-limited progression.
Experiment with route manipulation and extra chase pressure Haunted by Daylight Portals, Haunts, Void Crystals and Empowered Breaks create additional decisions.
Learn a map’s baseline rotation and safe generator positions Regular Trial first, then the event Learning the unmodified layout makes it easier to understand what the portal network changes.
Maximize a reward or Bloodpoint result by a known numerical margin No evidence-based answer No current official source in the supplied material publishes a win-rate, queue-time or Bloodpoint-efficiency comparison between the two queues.

Choose the event queue when you value seasonal progression or want to practice adapting to extra map and resource systems. Choose regular Trials when consistency is the goal, especially while learning a new Killer, Survivor build or map. Neither queue is established as universally more efficient or more likely to produce a win.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Following an old Void Realm guide

If a guide tells you to enter a large Void area, search for Generators that do not exist there or deposit energy at a Void Well to craft an ability, it is describing an earlier event. In 2026, remain in the ordinary Trial map, use the available portals and rely on direct ability unlocks after collecting enough energy.

Treating every event interaction as mandatory

Void Energy is useful, but an interaction that costs a generator cycle, rescue window or chase opportunity can hurt more than it helps. Take energy when it fits the current objective, then spend it to solve a specific tactical problem.

Ignoring permanent portal pairs

Opening a Void Rift changes the map for the rest of the Trial. Do not assume the route disappears after one use. Remember where each pair connects and account for it when selecting a generator, hiding after a rescue or predicting the Killer’s next approach.

Assuming a Haunt replaces the Killer’s pressure

A Haunt is an extra roaming threat. It does not remove the need for the Killer to patrol, chase and defend hooks, and it does not make a Survivor safe from the Killer merely because the Haunt is nearby.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using historical reward numbers

The 30-Energy cosmetic threshold from 2022 and the October 14-November 4 dates from 2025 are useful historical references only. Use the current event panel for 2026 requirements, dates and quantities.

A practical first-Trial checklist

Survivor checklist

  • Locate the nearest portal, Rift and generator before committing to a long rotation.
  • Decide whether the first Void Crystal is more valuable as a Smoke Bomb or remote repair tool for the situation you expect.
  • Collect Void Energy while completing useful objectives instead of abandoning critical progress to farm it.
  • Keep a route that avoids both the Killer and a possible roaming Haunt.
  • After a new portal pair opens, update your mental map; it remains active for the rest of the Trial.

Killer checklist

  • Identify portal pairs that can cut off a generator rotation or post-chase escape route.
  • Use a launched Haunt to force movement that improves your direct approach.
  • Reserve Empowered Breaks for objects that repeatedly influence chase outcomes.
  • Collect and spend Void Energy without allowing normal generator and hook pressure to collapse.
  • Apply ordinary Trial fundamentals; the event tools amplify pressure but do not replace them.

What is confirmed—and what is not

Confirmed for the current 2026 rules layer are the removal of access to the previous Void Tile, the presence of Void Portals and Void Haunts in all Trials, direct Event Ability unlocks after collecting enough energy, Survivor Void Crystals, Killer-launched Haunts and faster Empowered Breaks. The official material available for this comparison does not establish a numerical win-rate advantage, average queue time, Bloodpoint-per-minute advantage, universal Haunt range, exact ability durations or a 2026 reward calendar.

That distinction is important when comparing queues. The event clearly changes movement, threat density and decision-making, but there is no published figure proving that it is statistically better for winning, farming or finding a match. Evaluate it by the experience and seasonal objectives you actually want, and verify year-specific requirements in the live in-game event interface.
