The exact release matters more than the character name when you buy or value a Hatsune Miku collectible. A 1/8-scale Racing Miku, an eight-piece blind-box set, a Nendoroid, a prize figure and an event plush are different products with different sizes, supply, prices and resale behavior. Identify the manufacturer, year, format, release channel, completeness and condition before comparing prices.
This guide explains the main Miku formats, how Snow Miku and Racing Miku releases are organized, what “exclusive” really means, and a repeatable way to estimate current value from completed sales rather than optimistic asking prices.

What “scale” means on a Hatsune Miku figure
A scale figure reproduces a character at a fixed proportion of a reference height. Good Smile identifies Racing Miku 2020 Ver. as a 1/8-scale figure and describes it as a scale figure of the official character of the 2020 Hatsune Miku GT Project. A 1/8 label does not mean every Miku figure will be the same height: the character’s represented height, pose, hair and accessories all affect the finished dimensions.

Scale figures generally use more sculpting, paint and display space than small-format products, so their original prices and replacement costs are usually higher. The scale alone is not a grade for quality or rarity, however. A well-preserved non-scale item can be more desirable than a common scale release, while a damaged or incomplete scale figure can sell for less than its original price.

Scale, non-scale and size are different claims
- Scale: a fixed proportion such as 1/8, intended to communicate relative size.
- Non-scale: no fixed proportion; the manufacturer can choose a compact size for a series or box assortment.
- Stated dimensions: the most useful measurement when a listing gives height, width or depth but no scale.
Never infer a scale from a photograph. Compare the product name and manufacturer specification, then record the stated dimensions in your collection inventory.
The main Hatsune Miku formats compared
| Format | What it is | Typical use | Indicative Japan price information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scale figure | Fixed proportion, such as 1/8, with a detailed sculpt and display base | Showpiece collecting | About ¥15,000–¥40,000 or more in a 2026 buying guide; the exact release can be outside this range |
| Nendoroid | Small, stylized articulated figure with interchangeable parts | Compact displays and pose changes | About ¥5,000–¥7,000 in the same 2026 guide |
| Prize figure | Mass-produced figure distributed through arcade-prize channels, commonly by SEGA or Taito | Lower-cost collecting | About ¥1,500–¥3,500 in the 2026 guide |
| Non-scale blind box | Small figure sold in a sealed box, with a known assortment but an unknown individual design | Series completion and casual collecting | Varies by series and seller; the Snow Miku set listing is a product-specific reference, not a universal price |
| Plush | Soft character merchandise, sometimes tied to a concert, event or design contest | Display, gifting and event memorabilia | Not stated as a category-wide figure; identify the exact event release |
The price bands are orientation only. They are not guarantees, recommended bids or predictions of resale value. Japanese retail, export shipping, exchange rates, import charges and platform fees can make a delivered price substantially different.
Snow Miku All Stars: a non-scale format built around yearly designs
Good Smile’s Snow Miku All Stars Vol. 1 is described as “painted plastic non-scale” and contains eight palm-sized figures based on even-numbered years from 2010 through 2024. Vol. 2 covers the odd-numbered years from 2011 through 2025 and also contains eight designs. Good Smile’s product copy presents them as palm-sized figures of Snow Miku characters released from 2010 to 2025.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Each figure represents a particular Snow Miku design year, so the year and design identity should be recorded separately. A sealed box may be useful to a collector who wants the unboxing experience, while a complete opened set can be easier to display and verify. A single loose figure should be valued against sales of that exact design, not against the price of the full assortment.

Racing Miku releases are a line, not a single product
Good Smile’s Racing Miku catalog includes scale figures, blind boxes and other merchandise. “Racing Miku” therefore cannot be used as a valuation grade by itself. The year, manufacturer, format and release channel are essential identifiers.
Racing Miku All Stars Vol. 2 is an eight-design blind-box product covering 2011–2025. Its listed price is ¥17,600, and the listing shows a 2026 preorder window for shipping in May 2027. That is a product-specific price and schedule, not a standard price for every Racing Miku item. A 1/8 Racing Miku 2020 Ver. and one character from the Vol. 2 blind-box assortment should never be treated as interchangeable comparables.
How to read a preorder date
A preorder window is when orders are accepted; it is not the delivery date. The Snow Miku All Stars listings show 2026 preorder periods with February 2027 shipping, while the Racing Miku All Stars Vol. 2 listing shows October–November 2026 preorders with May 2027 shipping. Shipping months can change, so retain the original listing details and any later retailer notice.
Plush collecting: event identity is part of the value
Plush is not a single standardized category. Good Smile lists “Plushie Hatsune Miku MIKU EXPO 2023 VR -Costume Contest Grand Prize Design-,” an example of a plush tied to a named event and a specific winning design. For plush, the event, tour, region, production run and packaging often identify the item more reliably than size alone.

When photographing or listing a plush, show the sewn-in tag, paper hangtag, event branding, manufacturer mark and any original bag. Note stains, odors, flattened filling, detached accessories and whether the item has been washed. Those details can matter more than a small difference in overall height.
What makes a Miku release exclusive?
Exclusive usually describes the original sales channel or ordering terms, not a guarantee that an item will appreciate. Common categories include:
- Event-exclusive: first sold at a concert, convention or other named event.
- Store-exclusive: available through one retailer or store network, sometimes with a bonus part or accessory.
- Promotion-exclusive: distributed through a campaign, collaboration or purchase threshold.
- Made-to-order: produced from orders accepted during a defined window rather than kept as open-ended stock.
- Regional or lottery release: restricted by geography or a ticketed distribution system.
Exclusivity can reduce supply, but “sold out” only describes availability at a particular seller or time. It does not prove that buyers are willing to pay more later. A collector report based on closed Yahoo Auctions listings identified promo, event-exclusive, store-exclusive and made-to-order items as a distinct high-price segment and reported a ¥41,250 median for its selected top-50 sample. That median applies only to that selected sample; it is not a market-wide index.
How to identify the exact figure or plush you own
- Read every mark. Photograph the box front, sides, bottom, copyright line, barcode, manufacturer logo and product number. For plush, photograph sewn labels and hangtags.
- Separate character and version. Write the full name, such as Snow Miku with its design year or Racing Miku with its project year. “Hatsune Miku” alone is not enough.
- Classify the format. Record scale, non-scale, Nendoroid, prize figure, blind box or plush. Include the stated dimensions.
- Confirm the release channel. Note whether it was a general retail item, event release, store bonus, lottery item or made-to-order product.
- Check included parts. Compare your contents with the manufacturer’s parts list: base, alternate faces, hands, hair pieces, stands, accessories, tags and paperwork.
- Record provenance. Keep the receipt, preorder confirmation, retailer name, purchase date and any import documentation. Provenance does not replace authentication, but it helps explain where the item came from.
A defensible method for estimating resale value
Use completed sales, sometimes called sold or closed listings, rather than unsold asking prices. The goal is to match the same product and then adjust for condition and delivered cost.

Step 1: Build an exact search description
Combine manufacturer, character line, year, version, format and product number. For example, include “Racing Miku 2020 Ver. 1/8” rather than searching for “Racing Miku figure.” For a blind box, include the volume and the individual year design if you are valuing one opened figure.
Step 2: Collect comparable completed sales
Save several recent sales from the same country or market when possible. Record the sale date, currency, item price, shipping, whether taxes were included, sealed or opened status, box condition, accessories and seller notes. Exclude bundles unless you can allocate a defensible amount to the exact item.
Step 3: Normalize the comparison
Separate the item price from delivery and import costs. A domestic sale with free shipping is not directly comparable with an international sale that adds proxy fees, postage and customs charges. Convert currencies using the rate on the comparison date and label the conversion as approximate.
Step 4: Adjust for condition and completeness
- Sealed, undamaged packaging: generally the closest match for sealed sales.
- Opened but complete: compare with complete opened examples, not sealed boxes.
- Missing parts or damaged box: use lower-condition sales and disclose every missing or damaged component.
- Displayed or dusty: state cleaning history and any paint transfer, fading, yellowing or sun exposure.
- Authenticity uncertain: do not present a normal genuine-item price as your estimate.
Step 5: Report a range and confidence level
Use a range when sales are sparse or conditions differ. A practical report might say that the item appears to have a low, middle and high comparable band, then explain which condition most closely matches yours. Label confidence as high when several recent, nearly identical sales agree; medium when the match is good but the sample is small; and low when only older, international or loosely comparable sales exist. Do not turn a thin sample into a precise single-number “value.”

Costs collectors often forget
The price printed on a Japanese listing is not necessarily the amount you spend or recover. Add outbound shipping, proxy-service charges, payment fees, import tax or VAT, domestic delivery to a proxy warehouse, marketplace commission and currency-conversion spread. For resale, subtract the seller’s platform fee and your shipping materials before calculating your net proceeds.
Made-to-order and preorder items also tie up money before delivery. Record the order date, expected ship month, balance-payment date and cancellation terms. A preorder scheduled for February or May 2027 should not be described as in-stock merchandise in an inventory spreadsheet.
Authenticity and condition checks
Packaging and product checks
- Compare logos, copyright text, print quality, barcode and product number with an official listing.
- Look for clean seams, consistent paint, correctly fitted parts and a base that matches the release.
- Be cautious of unusually low prices, stock photos with no item-specific images and sellers who will not show the box or tags.
- For prize figures and blind boxes, verify that the claimed manufacturer and series actually produced that design.
Storage practices
Keep figures away from direct sunlight, high heat and damp storage. Retain the original box and internal supports, but do not compress plush for long periods. Store loose accessories in labeled bags and photograph the contents before packing for a move or sale.

Are Hatsune Miku figures worth collecting?
They can be worthwhile as a hobby, display collection or record of a particular concert, design year or creator collaboration. Financially, the answer depends on the exact item and your costs. Scale, exclusivity and complete condition may support stronger demand, but none guarantees appreciation. Prize figures and blind boxes can be inexpensive entry points; Nendoroids offer compact articulation; scale figures provide a larger display presence; plush can preserve the identity of an event or contest design.
Buy because you want the design first, then treat resale value as uncertain. If future value matters, preserve the box and accessories, document provenance, avoid sun and moisture, and keep sold-price evidence separate from hopeful listings. The most reliable comparison is always the same release, in the same condition, sold in a similar market with delivery and fees accounted for.
