A camera-partnership badge on a phone is not a promise that the named company built every lens, sensor or camera module. It identifies a negotiated package of contributions. ZEISS documents the most explicit optics-and-coating role; Hasselblad’s OPPO work centers on co-developed imaging, color tuning and distinctive modes; Leica contributes imaging technology and branded looks to Xiaomi while also backing its own Leitz Phone line; and ARRI brings cinematic color science and workflow tools to HONOR.
What the four partnerships cover

These announcements describe different layers of a phone camera: physical optics, optical coatings, image processing, color management, shooting interfaces and brand-specific rendering. They do not establish that any partner manufactures the entire camera assembly.

What Hasselblad actually does on OPPO phones
OPPO says its teams and Hasselblad have worked together across four years of Find-series phones and are co-developing a next-generation imaging system. The wording points to joint engineering and tuning rather than a claim that Hasselblad supplies every lens or sensor.
Hasselblad’s visible contribution
The clearest user-facing example is Hasselblad XPAN Mode. It recreates the classic 65:24 wide aspect ratio associated with Hasselblad’s XPAN camera, giving compatible Find phones an unusually wide composition inside the camera app. That is a creative mode and rendering choice, not evidence that the phone contains an XPAN film camera mechanism.

What the badge means in practice
For an OPPO buyer, the partnership is most relevant to color and imaging-system behavior, portrait rendering and special shooting modes. The announcement does not provide a standardized comparison showing that every Find camera outperforms phones without the badge, so the logo should be treated as a design and tuning signal rather than a guaranteed ranking.
Why ZEISS is the most explicit optics partnership here
ZEISS describes its mobile work in unusually concrete hardware terms. Its partnership material names ZEISS Optics and T* anti-reflective coating on the first jointly developed vivo X-series smartphone, alongside ZEISS portrait styles and a joint imaging lab. ZEISS says its mobile program draws on more than 130 years of imaging experience.

Optics and T* coating
ZEISS also identifies the Sony Xperia 1 II as featuring ZEISS optics with T* coating. An anti-reflective coating is intended to reduce stray reflections and improve contrast, particularly in scenes with bright light sources. The documentation establishes the optical and coating involvement; it does not say that ZEISS manufactured every camera component in those phones.
Software and continuing research
The joint imaging lab and portrait styles show that the relationship extends beyond glass. ZEISS applies its imaging expertise to mobile processing and portrait rendering while working with the phone maker on implementation. As with any phone, the final photographs still depend on the sensor, computational processing and the manufacturer’s camera software.

Leica’s two different phone relationships
Leica and Xiaomi
In a March 2025 release, Leica said its technology partnership with Xiaomi would continue with the Xiaomi 15 series. The announcement presents the work as a shared effort to elevate smartphone photography. It does not state that Leica manufactures Xiaomi’s complete camera module, so “Leica camera” on a Xiaomi phone should be read as partner technology, image development and Leica-branded rendering rather than an assertion of full Leica hardware production.
Leica’s own Leitz Phone 3
The separate Leitz Phone 3 provides a more specific example of a Leica-branded handset. Its release lists a 47.2-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 1-inch CMOS sensor, variable aperture and Leica Leitz Looks. Those specifications belong to Leica’s own Leitz Phone ecosystem and should not be transferred automatically to Xiaomi models carrying a Leica partnership badge.

What to check before buying
Check the exact model and market. A Xiaomi phone with Leica technology and a Leitz Phone are different products, with different hardware descriptions and distribution arrangements. The partnership announcements alone do not establish universal retail availability or identical features in every region.

ARRI and HONOR announced a strategic technical collaboration on 1 March 2026. ARRI says its image-science principles are being translated for mobile constraints, not copied as cinema-camera hardware. The later HONOR Robot Phone announcement identifies the handset as the first commercial outcome and names ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks.

From cinema color science to a phone workflow
ARRI LogC3 and ARRI Wide Gamut 3 are color-management tools designed to preserve imaging information and provide a controlled basis for grading. ARRI Looks supplies a defined rendering style. Together, these features target creators who want a more cinema-oriented capture and finishing workflow, rather than simply a filter labeled “cinematic.”
ARRI’s stated visual goal
Dr. Benedikt von Lindeiner, an ARRI vice president, described the aim as “a true cinematic aesthetic to smartphone imaging — natural color, gentle highlight roll-off, and a sense of depth that feels authentic to how stories are meant to be seen.” ARRI also says it has received 20 Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Those credentials explain the company’s image-science authority, but they are not a substitute for a standardized phone-camera test.
How to interpret a partnership badge when choosing a phone
- Identify the contribution. Look for explicit wording about optics, coatings, color science, software, modes or workflow tools. The four partnerships do not all operate at the same layer.
- Check the exact model. A feature named in a partnership release may apply to one series or phone, not every handset sold under the brand.
- Verify region and date. Partnership announcements do not establish that a model is sold worldwide, and launch features can vary by market or software version.
- Separate hardware from rendering. A branded look or portrait mode can change output without changing the underlying sensor or lens.
- Judge the camera system as a whole. Sensor size, lens design, stabilization, processing and the camera app all affect results; the logo alone cannot predict an overall winner.
Is there an overall winner?
No defensible overall winner can be declared from these announcements. There is no single independent, standardized test covering current Hasselblad, ZEISS, Leica and ARRI phone examples under the same conditions. ZEISS has the clearest documented optics-and-coating role; Hasselblad is most visibly associated with OPPO’s co-developed color and creative modes; Leica spans both a Xiaomi technology partnership and a separate Leica-branded phone; and ARRI’s distinctive contribution is cinematic color management on HONOR. Those are different strengths, not a common scorecard.
