Hasleo Backup Suite’s documented backup tasks use a destination path you choose; its reviewed instructions do not describe finding an external disk by identity when Windows changes its drive letter. For a single backup disk, assign it a stable, unused letter in Windows 11 Disk Management, then make sure the Hasleo task points to that letter and the correct folder. The drive still needs to be connected and mounted when the scheduled backup runs.
What Hasleo does—and does not document
Hasleo’s disk and file backup guides let you select a destination path when creating or modifying a task. Its scheduling guide lists one-time, daily, weekly, monthly, and event-triggered schedules, along with options to run a missed schedule at the next system startup and to wake the computer for a scheduled task. These scheduling options do not, in the reviewed instructions, establish that Hasleo resolves a destination by volume label, serial number, or another identity independent of its drive letter.

This is a limitation of what the reviewed instructions document, not proof that no other Hasleo feature or configuration could ever do it. The practical, documented control is to give the backup volume a stable Windows letter and set the task destination to match. See Hasleo’s schedule and image-retention guidance, disk-backup instructions, and file-backup instructions.

Assign a stable drive letter in Windows 11
Microsoft documents Disk Management as the built-in utility for changing drive letters and says it “looks and works the same in Windows 10 and Windows 11.” Open it by right-clicking Start and selecting Disk Management, or run diskmgmt.msc. Microsoft’s instructions are at Disk Management in Windows.
#1 Best Overall
- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
- Connect the external drive, open Disk Management, and identify the backup volume by its capacity and other details. Do not change the letter of a system, source, or other unrelated volume.
- Right-click the correct volume and use the option to change its drive letter and paths. Assign an unused letter that other devices are unlikely to claim, then confirm the change.
- In Hasleo Backup Suite, edit or recreate the backup task so its destination points to the new letter and the intended folder. The destination must match the path Windows presents for that volume.
- Run or otherwise test the task with the drive connected, then verify that the expected backup image or files were created at that destination before relying on the schedule.
Changing a letter in Disk Management is a practical workaround, not a guarantee for every USB enclosure or configuration. Microsoft documents the control itself, but does not promise identical reconnect behavior for every device.
If you rotate between multiple external disks
Give each disk a different letter on the computer and configure the applicable Hasleo task destination to match the disk that will be connected. If two disks are connected to the same computer, they cannot use the same letter at once. The reviewed Hasleo instructions do not establish that one task automatically switches destinations according to which disk is attached.

| Setup | Destination arrangement | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| One external disk | Assign that volume one stable, unused letter and point the task to its folder. | Confirm the disk is connected and mounted at the scheduled time. |
| Several disks rotated individually | Assign each volume a distinct letter and use a task destination matching the disk that will be attached. | Test each disk and task pairing; do not assume the task will select a different disk automatically. |
Users in an ElevenForum discussion about this Hasleo scenario report assigning persistent, distinct letters to their external volumes; one participant said the chosen letter remained after signing out and back in. That is anecdotal community experience, not a vendor guarantee.
What happens if the drive is missing at backup time?
A stable letter does not make a disconnected drive available. Keep the disk connected and mounted when the task is due. Hasleo documents an option to run a missed schedule at the next system startup; treat that as a startup catch-up behavior, not as evidence that Hasleo retries automatically when the drive is plugged in.

Microsoft also has guidance for reconnecting a drive used by Windows File History, a different backup product. Its behavior should not be taken as a description of Hasleo’s retry behavior: Reconnect Your File History Drive.

If you need a destination for backup images, Hasleo’s disk-backup guidance recommends an external drive or network location separate from the source disk. A separate external hard drive for backups may be appropriate, but buying a new drive is not required to solve a changing-letter problem: the relevant fix is to stabilize the Windows letter and align the task path with it.
