The makers have not confirmed the reported clearance, and the film is still awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). A reported November 13 release target is not official.
What is known about Maatrubhumi’s clearance?
The claim that the government cleared the film comes from an October 2 report by Bollywood Hungama, which cited an unnamed source. Hindustan Times and The Indian Express relayed that account on October 3. Hindustan Times said the makers had not confirmed it; The Indian Express also attributed the NOC details to the earlier report. The coverage reviewed included no official Ministry document or on-record government confirmation.

According to the unnamed source, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officials were satisfied with a revised cut and issued an NOC “last week.” The source also described the new version as substantially altered and said it presents India-China relations in a positive light. Those details are attributed claims, not independently verified descriptions of the film’s content.
Does an NOC mean the film has CBFC certification?
No. The reported Ministry NOC is distinct from certification by the CBFC. The October 2 report said the censor process was still pending, and October 3 coverage likewise said the film awaited CBFC certification. The reports therefore do not establish that the film is cleared for theatrical release.

When could Maatrubhumi be released?
November 13, 2026 has been reported as a possible target, conditional on completion of the CBFC process. It is not an officially confirmed release date: The Indian Express described it as unconfirmed, while Hindustan Times said the makers had yet to announce a revised date. The reported schedule depends on the certification process being completed in October, according to the source cited by Bollywood Hungama.
How the clearance story developed
- July 4, 2026: The production team said the film had not been submitted to the CBFC and denied that certification had been put on hold, as reported by India Today. That statement described the status at that time.
- September 15, 2026: India Today reported that the film still had not been submitted to the CBFC and that producers were engaging with officials over concerns about its China-related narrative. This was earlier status reporting, before the subsequent NOC claim.
- October 2–3, 2026: Bollywood Hungama published the unnamed-source account of an NOC and possible November 13 target. Hindustan Times and The Indian Express relayed it the following day, noting that certification remained pending and the release date was not confirmed.
What is Maatrubhumi about?
The film was announced as Battle of Galwan and is described in current coverage as being based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese forces. It was later retitled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace. Salman Khan stars, Apoorva Lakhia directs, and Chitrangda Singh also stars, according to The Indian Express.
