No new Karlach or Astarion story content is confirmed in the official announcements covered here. Larian said Patch 8 would be the last game patch to introduce new content, and its later Xbox Play Anywhere announcement concerned platform support—not new companion scenes or storylines.
What Larian has said about future Baldur’s Gate 3 content
In its April 15, 2025 Patch 8 announcement, Larian community manager Salo wrote: “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” Salo added: “That means we won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions.” Larian’s Patch 8 announcement described Patch 8 as the final major patch introducing new content.

Larian had already set out a similar direction in Community Update #26 in 2024, saying it would not add major new narrative content to Baldur’s Gate 3 or its Origin characters and companions, and that it was not making expansions or Baldur’s Gate 4.

Larian’s August 3, 2026 post announced Xbox Play Anywhere availability and listed platform version updates. That is platform and compatibility news, not an announcement of new Karlach or Astarion scenes. The post does not describe a new companion-content release: Larian’s Xbox Play Anywhere announcement.

The distinction matters: narrative additions mean new scenes, dialogue, or storylines; platform support concerns where or how the existing game can be played. The cited 2026 update is in the second category.
Karlach’s additional scenes are existing Patch 2 content
Karlach did receive new material earlier in the game’s life. In its September 2, 2023 Patch 2 notes, Larian announced an optional ending scene for her and additional character moments in Acts 1 and 2. These are already-released additions, not evidence of a new announcement now. The original notes are at Larian’s Patch 2 announcement.

The official material cited here does not announce comparable new content for Astarion, either. It supports a clear conclusion: the claim that Baldur’s Gate 3 is “coming back” with new official content for Karlach and Astarion is not substantiated by these announcements.

For any future claim, look for a Larian announcement that explicitly names the new scenes, dialogue, or story content and identifies the patch or release. A platform-availability post, version-number change, or bug-fix update should not be treated as a companion-story announcement. Larian’s official game page is Baldur’s Gate 3.
