The widely reported percentages refer to technical components the project tracks—system-library functions and GPU shader instructions—not to the share of the PlayStation 5 game library that has been ported or made playable.
What AnyPS5 does
AnyPS5 is a project for automatically porting PlayStation 5 executables to Linux and Windows, according to its project README. Its relinker converts an executable into the target system’s native format and supplies implementations of system PRX libraries used for dynamic linking. The project describes this approach as working without emulating the PS5 or running a separate runtime process.

In explanatory terms, this sits between static decompilation and emulating the full PS5 environment: the game’s original x86 code is relinked to native PC executable instructions. That characterization comes from Ars Technica’s October 1, 2026 report; the README is the primary source for how the project describes its own design.

The percentage that comes closest to 90% is a measure of implemented system-library functions. These are functions the project is working to provide for games that depend on PS5 system libraries. The README explicitly says its percentage counts functions known to the project so far—not every system function on the PS5—and that the total can grow as more functions are declared. It therefore cannot be read as the share of games ported.

A second metric counts GPU shader instructions translated or supported. That measures progress on another technical component, not the number of compatible games. Neither metric tells readers how many commercial titles launch, run reliably, or are ready for general use.
What the reported progress figures actually say
Two October 6, 2026 reports give different snapshots of the project’s tracked system-function coverage. They should be kept separate rather than combined into a single definitive figure. Both also report shader-instruction coverage, which is not a game-compatibility rate.
| Report and snapshot | System-library functions | GPU shader instructions | What the figures measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| GameGPU, October 6, 2026 | 2,449 of 2,815 discovered functions implemented (87.0%) | 1,125 of 1,166 known instructions translated (96.48%) | Coverage of discovered functions and known shader instructions; not the share of PS5 games that run. |
| TweakTown, October 6, 2026, reporting a screenshot shared October 5 | 2,538 of 3,207 tracked functions (79.14%) | 1,118 of 1,166 tracked instructions supported (95.88%) | Tracked technical coverage; TweakTown distinguishes it from game compatibility. |
| Ars Technica, October 1, 2026 | About 76% coverage | About 50% support | An earlier dated snapshot, not a current game-compatibility percentage. |
The reports do not establish why their system-function denominators differ, so their counts should be understood in the context of each report and snapshot. They are reported progress figures, not independently audited measurements.

What has actually been demonstrated
Dreaming Sarah
The README lists Dreaming Sarah, a 2D platformer, as running at a stable 60 fps on a GTX 1050 Ti and an Intel i5-7500 at 3.4 GHz. That is one documented result, not a minimum hardware specification or evidence that a similar share of the PS5 catalog works. The project links to a verified-games list for individual titles.
Dead Cells
Ars Technica reported proof-of-concept footage of the PS5 edition of Dead Cells running as a native PC executable through AnyPS5. A proof of concept demonstrates a specific technical result; it does not establish broad compatibility or general release readiness.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is known—and not known—about compatibility and PC requirements
“Nearly 90% of the PS5 library” is not a supported reading of the figures. The sources establish some game-specific results and project progress on tracked functions and shader instructions; they do not establish a percentage of all PS5 games that can run in AnyPS5.

- 🚀 CPU: 3.5GHz, 8-core AMD Zen 2
- 🚀 Storage: Custom 825GB SSD
- 🚀 RAM: 16GB GDDR6
- 🚀 GPU: 10.3 teraflop RDNA 2 GPU
The reviewed project material does not specify minimum hardware or supported Windows and Linux versions. The GTX 1050 Ti and i5-7500 configuration is attached to the README’s Dreaming Sarah result only, so it should not be treated as a general requirements list. For an individual game, consult the verified-games list rather than inferring compatibility from either percentage.
How AnyPS5 handles unsupported states
The README states: “Unsupported or unexpected states strictly throw std::runtime_error. what() is printed to stderr and the process terminates.” In practical terms, an unhandled state can stop the process rather than allowing the game to continue. The project also says its shader recompiler produces SPIR-V, with validation through Spirv-Tools when built with the relevant option.
What the project says about software and responsibility
The README describes AnyPS5’s stated purposes as interoperability, research, preservation, and compatibility. It says the project does not include, distribute, or require copyrighted software, firmware, cryptographic keys, or proprietary libraries. It assigns users responsibility for obtaining and using binaries in accordance with applicable laws and license terms.
