Reports describe different local conditions, not a single statewide supply picture.
What is the Haryana milk strike about?
Dairy farmers and livestock rearers called a three-day strike from October 1 to 3, 2026, seeking higher prices for milk procured by Vita and uniform fat-based rates across its plants. The proposed rates—₹80 per litre for cow milk and ₹100 per litre for buffalo milk—are protesters’ demands, not confirmed new procurement prices. Farmers said higher costs for fodder, medicines, animal care and other inputs made dairy farming difficult at prevailing rates. Hindustan Times reported the demands and rationale on October 3, 2026.

Some dairy committees reportedly stopped collection and supply during the strike, while farmers in several villages stopped selling at existing rates. Organisers also said they were extending the action to milk moving from Haryana to Punjab and Rajasthan. Farmer leaders reportedly announced a ₹51,000 penalty and possible vehicle seizure for people found selling or transporting milk during the bandh. These were claims about enforcement by the organisers, not government penalties. Hindustan Times
Where was milk supply affected?
The reported impact varied by location and by what was being measured: milk collected at a plant is not the same as milk available to consumers in shops.

| Location | What was reported | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sirsa | A sit-in outside the Vita plant disrupted tanker movements. Vita reportedly sent tankers before 10 a.m. and had them enter the plant after 4 p.m.; milk was diverted to chilling centres and brought to the plant later in the evening and at night. | Hindustan Times, reporting Vita officials and farmer organisations; the accounts of the shortfall differ. |
| Jind | About 1.36 lakh litres a day were reportedly being received as usual. | Vita officials, as reported by Hindustan Times; a local account, not an audited statewide figure. |
| Kurukshetra–Karnal–Kaithal belt | About 13,000–14,000 litres a day, with minor fluctuations, were reported. | Vita officials, as reported by Hindustan Times; the report does not establish a uniform district-by-district dataset. |
| Ambala | Officials said there was no market shortage and consumers were receiving adequate supply at normal prices. | Local officials, as reported by Hindustan Times; not an independently audited market survey. |
Hindustan Times published these local accounts on October 3, 2026. A separate same-day report by Haryana.com also described the supply impact as limited and repeated the principal price demands, but did not resolve the differing Sirsa figures.
Why do the Sirsa figures conflict?
Sirsa Vita plant CEO Dinesh Mehta said the plant normally received around 78,000–80,000 litres a day and received about 75,000 litres on Thursday. He said: “There were some difficulties on Thursday afternoon when vehicles could not reach the plant. They were diverted to chilling centres and brought in during the evening and night after the protest eased,” he said. Hindustan Times reported his figures and statement.
Farmer organisations, by contrast, claimed the blockade reduced daily supply by around 30,000–35,000 litres. The reports do not reconcile that claim with Mehta’s figures, so neither should be treated as an independently settled measure of the shortfall. Hindustan Times

How does Vita’s collection network explain the rerouting?
Vita says milk is collected through village-level cooperative societies, chilled at village bulk milk coolers and milk chilling centres, then transported to six milk plants for testing, processing and packaging. That network provides context for how milk could be diverted to chilling centres when tankers could not reach the Sirsa plant on schedule; it does not verify how much milk was moved during the strike. Vita’s official “Our Activities” page also reports more than one lakh associated milk farmers and 3,514 cooperative societies. The page excerpt does not specify a publication year, so those figures should not be read as a verified 2026 count.

What is known about the strike’s outcome?
The reports available on October 3, 2026, describe the strike as scheduled to run through that day. They do not establish whether it ended as planned, whether Vita accepted any price demands, or whether supply changed afterward. Vita’s contact page lists district milk unions, including Sirsa, for current local information.
