Is Halo: Fireteam Noble still expected to be published?
Halo Studios says it intends to complete Halo: Fireteam Noble, the announced novel by Troy Denning. In an October 2026 note on Halo Waypoint’s Canon Fodder: Heart and Soell, the studio wrote: “To this we can say that it is absolutely our intent to see this project cross the finish line.” The note adds that Denning has written the story and that “a good chunk of the editorial process has been conducted.”

That is a clear statement of intent, not a guarantee that the book will be released on a particular date. Halo Studios’ official announcement for Fireteam Noble currently lists March 2027 as the publication date and explicitly says it is subject to change.

What did Xbox announce about the restructuring?
On September 22, 2026, Xbox said it was eliminating 268 roles across Halo Studios, other first-party studios, and Xbox Game Studios management and central functions. The figure covers those broader areas; it is not a count of Halo Studios employees alone.
In the same Xbox Wire announcement, Matt Booty said Activision would develop the next Halo title with a new purpose-built team separate from Call of Duty plans. Xbox also said a small Halo Studios team would continue supporting the community and games already in market. The Washington Post’s contemporaneous report described the restructuring and the smaller team remaining to support existing games; Xbox’s statement is the primary source for the role count and development remit.

Has Activision confirmed a Halo lore reboot?
No. The official Xbox announcement describes who will develop the next game and how that team will be organized; it does not announce a continuity or lore reboot. Halo Studios’ statement about Fireteam Noble addresses its intent to finish that particular novel, not the future of every part of Halo continuity. The official material cited here therefore does not establish that a reboot is planned, nor does it promise that every existing continuity element will be retained.

- Waypoint Chronicles: The post describes additional stories planned for weekly online release from November to December. It also says the creators hope to produce a Volume Two print anthology, ebook, and audiobook later in 2027. Those hoped-for formats are not firm publication commitments.
