MCC gives you the broader earlier saga
MCC bundles Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4. The games do not all play the same way, but the collection gives a newcomer access to multiple earlier campaigns in one package. Halo Support advises new players to begin with a campaign and says to start with Combat Evolved Anniversary to follow the games in their original release order. Infinite is for the newer campaign, not the complete series
Halo Infinite has a standalone Master Chief campaign set on Zeta Halo. Pick it if that is the story you specifically want to play. It is not the broad, multi-game introduction MCC offers, so a continuity-first newcomer should not mistake it for a complete account of the earlier saga. How do their multiplayer offerings differ?
Infinite separates free multiplayer from its paid campaign
Infinite’s multiplayer is free to download and play. Halo Support describes Arena and Big Team Battle, PvP and PvE options, Forge, split-screen multiplayer, cross-play, and cross-progression; network campaign co-op is a separate mode from the free multiplayer. Available playlists and content can change over time. Check Halo Support’s overview.
The Steam product description advertises more than 70 matchmaking maps and community Forge creations. Treat that as a storefront figure that may become outdated, not a permanent count or a measure of quality. See the Halo Infinite Steam listing.

MCC combines multiplayer from its included games and adds Firefight
MCC offers campaign, multiplayer, and Firefight, a wave-based PvE mode. Its Steam listing advertises more than 120 multiplayer maps. That number is not directly comparable with Infinite’s matchmaking-map figure: the games, modes, map pools, and counting methods differ. Halo Support describes MCC’s modes; the Steam listing gives the collection’s map figure.

What should you know about co-op and platform support?
MCC: Xbox split-screen, with a campaign cross-play limit
MCC is available on Xbox and Windows. On Xbox, players can share a screen for campaign, Firefight, or multiplayer; up to four people can play locally, but sessions with more than two local players are multiplayer-only. MCC supports some online play between Xbox and PC, but campaign and campaign playlists cannot use cross-play. If your group is split across platforms, check the specific mode rather than assuming every part of the collection works across them.
Infinite: network campaign co-op and PC/Xbox cross-play
Infinite supports PC/Xbox cross-play. Its campaign co-op is network-based and supports up to four players, with exact fireteam limits depending on the selected mode. Infinite multiplayer is free; campaign access is separate
You can play Infinite multiplayer for free. To play the campaign, buy it separately or check whether it is included with your Game Pass membership. Halo Support says physical discs include campaign access, and the Steam listing separates the free game from the campaign purchase. Game Pass catalog access, retail stock, and prices vary by region and can change, so confirm the current offer for your platform before buying. MCC can be purchased or accessed through some Game Pass memberships. For online play, you need an Xbox network account. Halo Support says console online play requires an active Game Pass subscription, while Steam PC online play does not require an active Xbox subscription.
