What is the Haier HRF220TW?
It is a compact top-mount refrigerator freezer: the refrigerator compartment sits below the freezer. Haier’s specification sheet lists 221 L total gross capacity and features including a frost-free freezer, reversible door, LED interior light, adjustable glass shelves and a slide-out chilled compartment. These details describe the original HRF220TW; check the rating plate or product paperwork to confirm the suffix on a specific unit.

How large is it, and what is the storage layout?
Haier gives the HRF220TW dimensions as 1420 mm high, 540 mm wide and 595 mm deep. The sheet lists two adjustable safety-glass shelves, four door shelves, a removable fresh-food crisper and a slide-out chilled storage compartment. The door is reversible, which can help accommodate different kitchen layouts.
Before buying, measure the available space and check the required installation clearances and door swing for the unit. A reversible door does not by itself confirm that the hinge can be changed in every installation without additional steps.

What do the independent test results establish?
CHOICE identifies the HRF220TW as discontinued and says its test was conducted in 2019. The publicly visible page withholds the expert rating and detailed results, including temperature performance and noise. The listing alone therefore does not show whether the refrigerator performed well or poorly in those tests.
CHOICE reports a 3-star energy rating and 308 kWh/year for the HRF220TW. Those are the figures shown on its page, not a guarantee of what a particular unit will consume in use or of its current running cost.

How does the HRF220TW differ from the HRF220TW3?
The suffix matters. Haier’s quick reference guide for the HRF220TW3, dated 4 May 2023, gives 198 L usable volume: 144 L refrigerator and 54 L freezer. It also lists 240 kWh/year and a 3.5-star rating. The original HRF220TW and the later variant should not be treated as specification-identical.

The capacity figures use different descriptions: the original model’s manufacturer sheet gives gross capacity, while the TW3 guide distinguishes gross and usable volume. The variant’s guide also warns that specifications can change, so confirm details with Haier for a specific unit.

CHOICE marks the model discontinued. Its page shows a $480 price, but that is a listing figure, not a verified current offer. Current stock and price have not been established, and no specific successor model is confirmed here.

If you find one, assess the individual unit rather than assuming its condition from the model name. For a used or remaining-stock refrigerator, check the exact suffix, physical condition, cooling operation in both compartments, energy information, warranty coverage and available service support. Compare it with currently available compact top-freezer models on usable capacity, dimensions, measured performance, energy use, noise, support and price. The public CHOICE listing does not provide enough test detail to make a definitive lab-based recommendation for the HRF220TW.
