Haier’s specifications make it a feature-rich option for a larger kitchen, but they do not establish how it performs in everyday cooking. CHOICE lists an overall score of 90; its accessible listing does not provide the test detail needed to interpret that result. Before buying, check the cutout and electrical requirements against your kitchen and installation site.
What the Haier HCI905FTB3 offers
Haier describes the HCI905FTB3 as a black-glass 600 Series induction cooktop with five cooking zones. One Flexi Zone pairs two zones for cookware such as a larger pan or griddle. The layout is intended to offer more room and flexibility than a small, conventional hob, though the manufacturer’s specification does not establish how well a particular pan or griddle will work on it. Haier’s product page lists these features and the zone ratings.

These are Haier’s published specifications, not independent measurements of cooking performance. The product page also lists nine heat settings plus boost, touch-and-slide controls, a timer and a pause function. Safety features include coil sensors, child lock, overheat and overspill alerts, and hot-surface indicators. Haier states that the cooktop has a two-year parts-and-labour warranty.
What the independent score does—and does not—tell you
CHOICE lists an overall score of 90 for the HCI905FTB3 and names Fiona Mair as the tester. Its accessible listing also records five zones, a 90cm width and a maximum power output of 7.4kW. However, the listing does not disclose enough of the method, comparison set or sub-scores to explain what drove the result. Treat 90 as CHOICE’s reported overall score, not evidence of a specific strength such as speed, control usability or reliability. CHOICE’s listing does not state a publication year in the accessible material.

Check the benchtop dimensions and cutout
The cooktop measures 900mm wide by 520mm deep and 60mm high. Haier specifies a benchtop cutout of 870 × 490mm. These are separate measurements: the appliance’s overall dimensions are not the opening size. Measure the available space and check the current installation guide for clearances and any site-specific requirements before purchase. Haier notes that product specifications and designs may change. The product page and installation guide are the relevant references.
Confirm electrical requirements before installation
Haier’s installation guide lists 220–240V, 50–60Hz and installed power of 6800–7400W; the product page specifies a 30.9A draw. These figures describe the listed appliance requirements and should be checked for the intended installation, rather than assumed to suit an existing connection. Ask a qualified installer to assess the site and confirm the applicable electrical and installation requirements before committing to the cooktop. Haier’s installation guide provides the installation details.

Who should consider the HCI905FTB3?
It is worth considering if you want a wide, five-zone induction surface and expect to use the paired Flexi Zone for larger cookware. Its listed controls, timer, pause and safety alerts may also suit a household looking for those functions, but the specifications alone cannot establish day-to-day responsiveness or ease of use.

It may be a poor fit if your benchtop cannot accommodate the stated cutout, if the site’s electrical provision does not meet the installation requirements, or if you need evidence of real-world cooking performance before deciding. The public CHOICE listing does not supply the underlying detail to answer those performance questions.

- FAST & EFFICIENT COOKTOP - Induction cooking eliminates open flames and heats only the pan, keeping the surrounding area cool. It cooks faster and more efficiently than traditional burners, saving both time and energy in the kitchen.
- INTELLIGENT DYNAMIC WATT TECHNOLOGY - Unlike standard portable cooktops that split power evenly, Dynamic Watt Technology intelligently distributes energy between both burners. Rapidly boil water on one side while maintaining a gentle simmer on the other without sacrificing performance.
- ADVANCED PRECISION HEATING - Choose from 5 preset temperatures or customize between 50°F to 575°F in 5-degree increments. The Precision Key gradually increases heat to better maintain your selected cooking temperature. Enjoy more controlled results for recipes that require steady, even heat like steak, chocolate, and more.
- ADVANCED SEAMLESS IMD TOUCH PANEL - The integrated IMD structure creates a smooth, edge-to-edge glass surface with responsive touch controls. The seamless design prevents food or debris from collecting in gaps while protecting internal components from spills.
- TRUE INDEPENDENT DUAL-ZONE COOKING - Each burner operates with its own dedicated controls, allowing you to cook two dishes at different temperatures simultaneously. Perfect for multitasking meals or preparing sauces and sides alongside your main course.
What to compare with other 90cm induction cooktops
Compare zone layout as well as the headline zone count: check whether zones can be paired, which cookware the flexible area can accommodate, and how boost is allocated. Also compare control placement and functions, cutout dimensions, electrical load, warranty terms, and the detail behind any independent test results. Haier’s newer HCI905MFTB4 is a different model; do not assume it is a like-for-like alternative without checking its current specifications against the HCI905FTB3.
