Security team Calif reportedly demonstrated an untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 18 Pro running iOS 27.0.1 at Hexacon in Paris on October 16, 2026. After a complete restart, the phone returned to the lock screen; entering its ordinary passcode restored access to an SSH session with root privileges, without reconnecting a computer.
The demonstration is significant, but it is not a downloadable jailbreak. Calif has not released an exploit chain, CVE identifiers, source code, or a public tool, and the presentation did not show a passcode or lock-screen bypass.

What happened during the Hexacon demonstration
According to security reporting from the October 16, 2026 presentation, Calif rebooted an iPhone 18 Pro in front of the audience. The device booted normally and displayed the standard lock screen. After the presenter entered the phone’s existing passcode, an SSH connection became available with root-level privileges.

What “untethered” means here
A tethered jailbreak must be reactivated with a computer after every reboot. A semi-tethered or semi-untethered setup normally needs a device-side app or another manual step after restarting. An untethered jailbreak, as demonstrated, automatically remains active through the restart process and is usable again once the phone has booted and been unlocked.
The two-minute uptime shown in the report should not be read as a claim that the exploit takes exactly two minutes to run. It only records how long the phone had been running when the technical details were displayed.
What the demonstration does not prove
It was not a lock-screen or passcode bypass
The ordinary passcode was entered before the root SSH session was shown. The evidence therefore demonstrates persistent control of a phone whose legitimate user unlocked it; it does not demonstrate access to a stranger’s locked iPhone, recovery of a passcode, or a way around the lock screen.

The exploit chain remains undisclosed
No CVE numbers, source code, public package, or installation method were released in the reporting available from the event. Modern jailbreaks can require several separate capabilities, such as escaping the application sandbox, obtaining kernel control, bypassing pointer-authentication protections, and establishing persistence. Those are general components of the problem, not confirmed descriptions of Calif’s implementation.
Can you jailbreak an iPhone 18 Pro right now?
There is no publicly validated iPhone 18 Pro jailbreak tool for readers to download based on this demonstration alone. Any website, app, configuration profile, or video claiming to provide an iOS 27 jailbreak should be treated as unverified until a reputable security source confirms the code and its compatibility.
- Do not enter an Apple Account password, device passcode, or payment information into an alleged jailbreak site.
- Do not install an unsigned configuration profile or enterprise application offered as an “iOS 27 jailbreak.”
- Do not connect a personal phone to an unknown computer to run a promised one-click tool.
- Wait for verifiable technical disclosure, including supported models and builds, a reproducible method, and a safety record.
Because the exploit details are private, there is also no supported way to determine whether a particular iPhone 18 Pro variant, regional model, firmware state, or security setting would work.

How the iPhone 18 Pro fits the official product timeline
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, with availability beginning September 18. The lineup uses iOS 27, Apple’s A20 Pro chip, and USB-C charging. Those official specifications establish what the handset is; they do not validate the jailbreak claim.

Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak described the generation this way: “With iPhone 18 Pro, we’ve made advancements to the areas our users care about most: camera, performance, battery, and intelligence.” That marketing statement is separate from the security demonstration.

Compatibility with iPhone 17, earlier iPhone generations, other iPhone 18 models, or different iOS 27 builds has not been established. A jailbreak is usually tied to a specific combination of hardware, boot chain, kernel, and software build; the reported iPhone19,2 and iOS 27.0.1 result cannot be generalized to another device.

What to check if a public tool appears
A credible release should document more than a successful video. Before using one, look for these details:
- Exact supported model identifiers and iOS build numbers
- Whether the method is tethered, semi-untethered, or untethered
- What happens after a normal restart, forced restart, update, or battery drain
- Whether a passcode is required and whether any lock-screen access is claimed
- Clear vulnerability disclosure, reproducible technical evidence, and independently reviewed code
- Recovery instructions, signing status, and a record of avoiding data loss or credential theft
Until those conditions are met, the Hexacon presentation should be understood as a striking proof-of-concept demonstration—not as a consumer-ready jailbreak.
