Short answer: Choose Gyre if you want a managed service to store your prerecorded videos, loop a playlist, and send it to YouTube without keeping your computer on. Choose a VPS with OBS if you want more direct control and are prepared to set up, monitor, and maintain a remote server. The available figures do not establish a current like-for-like cost winner.
If you are comparing ways to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream live, StreamNeo is another cloud option to consider first: it runs uploaded videos around the clock, supports up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. Details and the hands-on VPS workflow are below.
How Gyre and a VPS send prerecorded video to YouTube
Both approaches ultimately send an encoder feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into the encoder. Its Help page also lists Gyre among streaming tools: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Gyre: upload, make a playlist, and start
Gyre is a hosted service. Its published workflow is to upload video files to Gyre storage, arrange them into a playlist, connect the YouTube stream, and start the broadcast. Gyre says the playlist restarts when it finishes and its infrastructure keeps the stream running without your computer: Gyre.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
An existing YouTube upload does not eliminate the file-ingest step: Gyre Help says the video must also be uploaded to Gyre storage. The help article’s preparation guidance lists 1920×1080 or 1280×720 video, H.264, video bitrate of 3072–6144 kbps, audio at 128 kbps, and 30 fps. These are Gyre’s stated guidelines, not universal YouTube requirements; check the current help article before preparing a large upload: How to Prepare Videos for Streaming on Gyre.
VPS: run OBS on a rented Ubuntu server
A VPS is a virtual server you rent and administer. In the example workflow documented by Vultr, you provision Ubuntu, install OBS Studio and FFmpeg, access the server desktop remotely, configure YouTube with your stream key, test the broadcast, and monitor server resources. Unlike Gyre, the VPS does not remove the setup and ongoing operational work; it gives you more direct control of the environment.

Vultr’s 2025 guide gives an example server baseline of 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth. Those are prerequisites in that provider’s example, not a universal YouTube requirement or an independently validated sizing rule. Its guide warns that higher resolution and frame rate demand more processing power and recommends keeping OBS CPU usage below 90% in its example workflow to avoid dropped frames and buffering. Pick Gyre when you want less server administration
Gyre suits creators who prefer a service-managed loop and do not need to administer Ubuntu or OBS. The trade-off is that videos must be uploaded into Gyre, and the number of streams, supported resolutions, and storage depend on the plan.

Pick a VPS when direct control is worth the work
A VPS fits an operator comfortable with Linux, remote desktop access, encoder settings, and resource monitoring. You can choose the server environment, but you also own troubleshooting when the encoder stalls, the server runs short of capacity, or the stream needs a configuration change.

- Provision an Ubuntu VPS. Select a server with enough CPU, RAM, storage, and transfer capacity for your source files and intended output. Vultr’s guide uses 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth as its example baseline—not a universal requirement.
- Install OBS Studio and FFmpeg. Use the installation method appropriate to your Ubuntu version and verify both programs start correctly before configuring a long-running broadcast.
- Set up secure remote desktop access. The guide uses remote access to configure OBS on the server. Limit access to trusted users and avoid exposing the desktop or stream key publicly.
- Make the prerecorded media available to OBS. Add the video or playlist as an OBS source. Ensure the files remain accessible after a reboot and that the playlist or repeat behavior matches the intended continuous stream.
- Configure the YouTube destination. In OBS, choose the YouTube service or enter the server URL and stream key from YouTube Live. YouTube’s encoder guidance is to use its Live server URL and key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to stream to your channel.
- Choose output settings the server can sustain. Set the resolution and frame rate to match the content and server capacity. Use the applicable YouTube guidance for encoder settings; do not assume a higher resolution is better if it overloads the VPS. Gyre’s file-preparation numbers above apply to Gyre’s ingest guidance, not automatically to OBS.
- Test before leaving it unattended. Start a short private or unlisted test stream, verify the picture and sound in YouTube Studio, and confirm the source loops as expected. Watch OBS CPU use and the stream for dropped frames or buffering.
- Plan for maintenance and recovery. Check that OBS and the media source return after a server restart, monitor resource use during operation, and know how you will reconnect the encoder if it stops. The VPS guide describes monitoring; it does not establish a universal automatic-recovery guarantee.
Protect the channel and the content
- Do not share or publish the YouTube stream key. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream. A live loop is still a public use of the material; prerecorded format does not itself grant music or video rights.
- Confirm that your stream follows YouTube’s current live-streaming and monetization policies. A continuous broadcast does not guarantee eligibility for monetization or channel growth.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is another YouTube-only option for prerecorded uploads: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running, so nothing has to stay on at home. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps, streamed as uploaded, at one price per slot.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card.
Monthly pricing: $9.99 per month.
