What is Guns of Eschaton?
Guns of Eschaton is presented on Steam as “The world’s first soulslike FPS,” set in an apocalyptic Western and associated with Viktor Antonov. The store listing describes a planned package with single-player, co-op and player-versus-player modes. Those mode labels apply to the full-game listing; they should not be treated as a promise that every mode is available in the free demo.
The release state matters when you are deciding where to play. The demo went live on October 5, 2026, so a PC player can try the game immediately. What you can install now
Search Steam for the official Guns of Eschaton Demo listing and use its install button. The demo is the currently verified way to play. Its feature panel explicitly includes Steam Cloud and Full Controller Support, with Xbox Controllers and PlayStation Controllers named in the supported-input categories.
The demo and the planned full game are separate store entries. Installing the demo does not unlock the unreleased full game, and a demo save should not be assumed to carry into the final release unless the developer later explains how that transition works.

The full Steam page identifies a 2026 release window and lists Steam Cloud. It also advertises single-player, co-op and PvP. Because the page is still unavailable, these are planned or listed capabilities rather than features you can verify in a launched full version today.

That is evidence of an announced or intended Xbox route, not proof that a downloadable Xbox product page is live in every region. Before purchasing or subscribing for this game, search the Xbox or Microsoft Store directly and verify that the product page, edition and release status match what you expect.
The same AMA result describes Xbox Play Anywhere/Xbox cloud synchronization for saves on Xbox or Microsoft Store. Treat that as the developer’s stated Xbox-and-Microsoft-Store behavior. It does not establish that an Xbox save can be imported into Steam or PlayStation.

The developer AMA result also mentions PlayStation. Controller support and Xbox or PlayStation pads
What “Full Controller Support” means here
The Steam demo’s feature panel says “Full Controller Support” and specifically lists Xbox Controllers and PlayStation Controllers. That is the strongest current evidence that a standard pad from either family can be used for the demo without relying on keyboard-and-mouse input. It does not identify every model, wireless adapter or third-party controller as compatible.
On a normal Windows PC, connect the controller before launching the demo. Steam should identify it and expose the gamepad controls. If the game opens with keyboard prompts, open Steam’s controller settings, confirm that the pad appears, then restart the demo. Keeping one active controller profile avoids conflicting inputs from multiple connected devices.

Known gamepad issues in the October 2026 build
Official Steam Community notes dated October 10, 2026 report a fix for a menu-navigation problem in which one D-pad press moved two positions. The same notes say that “slippery” directional movement on certain gamepad models remained under investigation. Therefore, a controller can be officially supported and still exhibit model-specific behavior in an early build.
If a menu skips items, first update the demo and Steam client, then disconnect other input devices and test the D-pad again. If movement drifts or continues after you release a direction, compare the behavior with another Xbox or PlayStation pad. That comparison helps distinguish a game issue from a worn stick or a controller profile. Keep the affected model and the build number in any bug report; the developers may need both to reproduce the problem.
Choosing between keyboard and controller

- Use a PlayStation pad if that is your established layout; the demo lists PlayStation controllers as supported.

Steam Cloud, Xbox cloud and the limits of cross-save
What Steam Cloud covers
Steam Cloud is listed for both the demo and the full game. Its practical purpose is synchronizing the Steam save associated with your account between Steam devices. You can therefore move from one PC running Steam to another and expect the cloud copy to be available after Steam finishes syncing.
To avoid overwriting a newer save, close the game normally on the first computer, wait for Steam to finish its upload, and only then launch the game on the second computer. If Steam displays a conflict, compare the local and cloud timestamps and keep the copy that contains your latest progress. Do not choose blindly when one option is from an older session.
What the Xbox statement covers
The developer AMA result says Xbox Play Anywhere/Xbox cloud synchronizes saves on Xbox or Microsoft Store. Read that as an Xbox ecosystem promise: an eligible Xbox and Microsoft Store installation can share progress through the platform’s cloud service. The statement does not say that the same account can move a save to Steam or PlayStation.

There is no confirmed universal cross-save
No authoritative source currently confirms a shared save system spanning Steam, Xbox and PlayStation. Steam Cloud synchronization and Xbox cloud synchronization are separate platform mechanisms. A player who begins on Steam should not purchase a console version expecting the save to appear automatically, and a console player should not assume that signing into the same publisher account will import progress.
Cross-save can change before launch. Look for an explicit support statement, an updated platform policy or a storefront feature label before transferring your main playthrough. Until then, plan each platform as its own save environment.
Multiplayer modes and platform expectations
The full Steam listing names single-player, co-op and PvP. That tells you the intended mode range, but it does not establish whether matchmaking, invitations or cross-platform play will be available. Cross-save and cross-play are different features: even if saves synchronize within one ecosystem, players on different platforms may still be placed in separate multiplayer pools.
The demo’s store information does not state a multiplayer scope. Do not use the demo to infer that co-op or PvP is already active, and do not assume that a console announcement includes feature parity with the Steam build until the relevant platform page says so.

Choose Steam now if you want to play immediately
Steam is the clear option for trying the game today because the demo is available there and controller and Steam Cloud support are documented. It also lets you evaluate the early build before the full release is available.

Wait for an official console page if you play primarily on Xbox or PlayStation

Do not select Epic solely because you want a second PC storefront

Platform and support details can change while the game is in prerelease. The most useful updates to check are an official release announcement, live Xbox and PlayStation store pages, a statement defining whether saves move between ecosystems, and patch notes for controller or graphics problems. Until those appear, keep the distinctions in this guide: Steam demo availability is confirmed, console availability is announced or reported, and universal cross-save is unconfirmed.
