Bandai Namco’s Tokyo Game Show page describes a high-mobility demo, while one hands-on preview reports grounded dashes, limited aerial movement and a melee-focused set of weapons. The short session left mission variety and the finished game’s scope unanswered.
What was shown at TGS 2026?
Bandai Namco’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 page listed GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It described the event demo as the game’s world-first demo and said visitors could choose from three preset mobile suits for high-mobility battles. The page’s wording was: “Players can choose a mobile suit to their liking from three types of presets and experience high-mobility battles with both freedom and high speed.” That is an official event description, not a statement from a named developer.

The show ran September 17–21, 2026, at Makuhari Messe, according to the official Gundam report. That report also describes a special demo station inspired by the cockpit of protagonist Gundam Helix.

What does the hands-on preview say combat feels like?
Wccftech’s October 6, 2026 preview was based on an invitation from Bandai Namco at the publisher’s Tokyo headquarters; it was not an account of playing the demo on the public show floor. Its editor’s note says travel and accommodations were provided. The observations below are therefore one writer’s impressions of a preview session, not independently tested findings.
#1 Best Overall
- The highest "metal expression" in the history of Gunpla -EXTREME METALLIC COMBINAITON-
- A kit with the most number of linked frame articulation gimmicks in MG History that enables the poses you imagine
- The true value of the Golden Frame is unleashed through gimmicks
- A variety of armaments with numerous gimmicks are included. Paper-crafted runner stand inlcuded to assist in assembly
- The product box will have a Bandai Namco warning label, which is proof that you are purchasing an officially licensed product
Ground dashes, with some aerial movement
The preview describes combat as oriented toward the ground, with lateral evasion and forward dashes as key movement options. Hovering and jet boosting provide ways to move through the air, but the account does not portray the game as sustained aerial combat. This mix suggests mobility is central while keeping encounters comparatively close to the ground.
Three reported melee weapons
The session included three weapon types: Sword Lance, Whip Sword and Assault Sword. Wccftech presents them as distinct melee options, giving the preview a stronger emphasis on close-range weapon variety than a broad account of ranged loadouts would establish. The article does not document a full equipment system or confirm what weapons will be available in the finished game.
Rank #2
- The latest internal frame design features a semi-monocoque structure, letting you experience the process of building a Mobile Suit
- The joint structure, returning to the original design, incorporates a new mechanism where the parts that look like joints bend properly by reinterpreting the movable axis
- The legs, inspired by the close combat MS Gundam that it's known for, use composite frame joints to create a human-like outline even when moved
- Details are intricately carved into parts not visible from the outside, such as joints and the backs of parts. Noticeable mounting holes have been removed, resulting in a seamless, integrated design
- The product box will have a Bandai Namco warning label, which is proof that you are purchasing an officially licensed product
Fast encounters; larger scope still unclear
Wccftech characterizes the action as fast and intense. It also says mission variety remained to be demonstrated, so the preview does not establish how objectives, environments or encounter types will vary across the full game.
Is Gundam Rogue Orbit like Armored Core VI?
There is a reasonable early comparison in the emphasis on piloting a mobile combat machine, fast movement and action-heavy encounters. Wccftech’s writer described the combat as fitting as a “pseudo-sequel to Armored Core VI”—a personal analogy, not Bandai Namco’s positioning. The available details support comparing a few parts of the action, not calling Rogue Orbit an Armored Core sequel or a mechanical equivalent.
Rank #3
- Part of the HG Series
- Bandai's newest "High Grade (HG)" model kit faithfully reproduces the new Gundam's distinctive form
- Loaded with articulation in the torso, hips, and elsewhere for dynamic posability after assembly!
- [Includes]: Weapons (x1 set) Backpack (x1 set) Interchangeable head part Interchangeable hands (x1 set) Stickers Marking stickers
| Comparison point | Rogue Orbit evidence from the preview | What can be concluded about the comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Ground-oriented lateral evasion and forward dashes, plus hovering and jet boosting. | High mobility is a stated part of the demo, but the preview does not establish that movement works like Armored Core VI. |
| Weapons | Sword Lance, Whip Sword and Assault Sword; the account emphasizes melee variety. | These are reported weapon options from one session, not evidence of the full arsenal or an equivalent build system. |
| Pace and encounters | The writer describes the action as fast and intense. | This supports an early feel-based comparison, not a measured or comprehensive gameplay comparison. |
| Missions and variety | Mission variety remained to be demonstrated. | The preview does not establish how the full game’s mission structure compares. |
Platforms, release timing and what remains unconfirmed
The official TGS page lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It does not, in the cited event information, establish a release date. A date discrepancy appears in the available coverage: Wccftech says March 5, 2027, while PC Gamer reports a March 4, 2027 Steam launch. Without an official release-date listing to resolve the difference, treat both dates as unconfirmed rather than relying on either as definitive.
More broadly, the public event description and short hands-on do not settle the final game’s mission range, full weapon roster or overall scope. The preview is useful for understanding the demo’s movement and melee emphasis, but not for judging those unanswered parts of the finished release.
Rank #4
- Faithfully recreates the mobile suit’s distinctive form
- The head can be replaced to display either the closed or deployed state
- Articulated joints in the torso, hips, and other areas allow for dynamic action poses
- The backpack features flexible articulation, enabling expressive posing from various angles
- The product box will have a Bandai Namco warning label, which is proof that you are purchasing an officially licensed product
A related Gundam collectible—not a gameplay requirement
PC Gamer reports that Bandai announced an HG 1/144 Bau Bahlam model kit at the 2026 All Japan Model & Hobby Show and identifies the mobile suit as appearing in Rogue Orbit. It is an optional physical collectible for fans, not equipment needed to play. The report does not verify a retail listing, price, release timing or availability.
